I don't think he's "worth" that much in a vacuum (and the idea of us still offering that much after being turned down so many times kinda rankles), but with the added context of those two points it makes sense. 0 trade cost and frontload the sh*t out of it so that it's not a burden when we have to be handing out new contracts to our own players. Doneski.
Yep that’s how I reckon the club would see it And why they’d be comfortable offering that

Others have mentioned it already but he will be the lachie Neale to the lions rebuild for us that helps propel us up quicker

Any player we give a million plus to needs to be a game changer - someone capable of winning games for you. I think Kelly is that.

He is no Martin, Danger of Fyfe. The kind of money they are talking about is that type of money and he just isn't worth it imo.

Would love a player like Kelly but 8 years feels a lot.

Hope any deal we are offering is fairly front loaded while the young up and coming players are still relatively cheap.

We have to push concern about this stuff, like the 8 years to the back of our mind.

In Brady we trust.

Yeah, I suppose. He is quality but quality worth how much? If we want him we have to pay.

well said,
Gone are the days of our administration thinking that Kelly would be the icing that will bring us a flag. Not saying he’s not in the clubs plans but you would think whatever offer is made it will be with the long game in mind.

If it’s anything close to the money mentioned it wouldn’t surprise me to see it heavily front loaded in the first couple. We certainly aren’t paying anywhere near the full cap currently surely?
That would be the opportunity presented being correctly manipulated.

If it's not much money more than GWS would be paying him in total, but it's a huge amount of it straight up front - then you get him for $600,000 a season later when you're fighting for the flag - huge win.

The rumour I read about a month back was ;

North 1.3m X 5
* 1.5m X 5

8 does seem unlikely but contracts mean jack really so who knows
Fair call.......I suppose I just dont get the significance (if true) of 8 years..if he pulls the pin on an existing long term to sign another long term then its only ceremonial rather than a commitment.

Yeah, i'm with ya but i just need to trust Brady and the team. I feel like we are safe in the knowledge that whatever they do will be within their plan and process to maintain age and experience profile

I don't think anyone knows
