And they were eviscerated for it on this board. But everyone wants to find excuses for poor little Joshy, who is a regular repeat offender. If people want to have standards for some players and play favourites with others, then fine. Just don't pretend otherwise.

Were either of them dropped for it, and hammered on it for months?

And possibly the fact they're ~30yo ~250 game players might factor into the different expectations.

Fair comment. I didn't hear Tex's comments on it, and thought that Fog's comments at least showed some support as well, as opposed to the others mainly just stating their disappointment

Ex players are aware of the stigma ....so are reluctant to discuss the odd pull-out that most players have done

If it were a PORT player, like Duursma dropping the mark in a Final .....the memes would be thick & fast on Rachele

Hopefully it's a maturity factor .....but in a Crows Final, I doubt Crows supporters would be offering up excuses

So he can't have been dropped for not attacking contests hard enough, because that has nothing to do with prioritizing others

The only obvious actions he made last week that weren't necessarily prioritizing others were the public comments and celebrations which Nicks claimed weren't the reason he was dropped

We're back to the bullshit spin days mate, no use trying to make sense of it.

We have no selection integrity, and we have numerous senior players who clearly only play for themselves and their future.

If that’s the reason for his omission from the side:

A. Why can’t Nicks just clearly state that instead of denying it and giving an incoherent explanation (ironically, to provide “clarity”) that puts even more pressure on Rachele?

B. Why don’t the playing group face criticism for making such a feeble request?

It just sounds as though Rachele is being made to wear responsibility for both the unhinged reactions by Port fans at the game and the fact the team fell apart after Rankine went down.

Again, if we’d won, what are the odds of similar action being taken, given all of the same circumstances would have still been relevant (the joke and the subsequent goal celebration)?

It’s all nonsense and scrambling to provide some veneer of legitimacy to boneheaded, knee jerk decisions.

Interestingly, after Rachelle did that celebration we went on to kick the next two goals.

I love Dawson - the player. He's exceptional.
But he's almost invisible as a leader of the club. I've heard more from the cooker O'Brien and the hack Murphy than I have from Dawson.
