This image of the fiats head lights strongly disputes the theory that the lights were working when they retrieved it from the ocean so it went in the same morning it was found.
They look pretty cactus to me.

Ive had a close look at the engine bay using the image taken from the Post news paper of the fiat immediately after it was hauled out of the sea and I've done a bit of research on the fiat 125 to check where everything is housed under the bonnet, more specifically the battery.
In all the images I've seen, the battery is always situated directly behind the right hand side headlights.

While it's not the clearest image to work from I can't see a battery in the area it should be.
So if my observations are correct and taking into consideration the severity of the damage the fiat has sustained there's a very real possibility that the battery has also endured damage which may have caused it to become dislodged and disconnected from its terminal leads, adding to the stack of possibilities as to why the lights wouldn't be working or anything else for that matter.

Was the bonnet removed or missing when the car was towed in? If it was missing was it ever found?

Looks like the bonnet wasn't attached to the fiat when it was being hauled out.

Below image shows what I believe could be a bonnet ( placed under tyre) on the back of the fiat so yes I'm pretty sure they found it.

I have read this thread before but just joined as I’ve noticed something odd in the WA missing persons. On 18 June 1988 a man from Vic Park named Peter Butt went missing and has never been found. I think is is odd as it’s only 2 days before Julie
Can you please provide a link for that ?
thanks

Not to be confused with an Investigative Reporter from Sydney by the same name, Peter Butt, who wrote a book "Merchants of Menace"

Surprised there was much left at all under that bonnet it's taken such a beating.

A slight diversion, but it does go to show how someone can deliberately disappear for 35 years, but more importantly, how they can be found.

Not much available online. Looks like a job down at the State Library with physical papers and microfilm IMO.
Unless WAPOL want to do an update with some details of his antecedents and circumstances.

Masters also lived East Victoria Park or nearby I think.
As did Tilbury.

Masters was arrested June 1991

Masters r*ped and murdered 30-year-old Victoria Clarke in her home on Leonard St, Victoria Park, in April 1987

James Alexander Tilbury.
Tilbury is serving a sentence for his second conviction for wilful murder.
The first was in 1971, when he strangled a woman he lived with.

Convicted 1989 for Devlins murder.

Shaw in his 30s punched Tilbury in his early 70s and caused major damage to his spleen after Tibury threw coffee at him. Police notes obtained by the ABC suggest Tilbury actually died and was revived but this sequence has not been corroborated. Shaw charged and complained after getting found not guilty in trail, but had to stay in prison longer until the trail was over. Just seems something strange about this.

The two men had traded insults for some time before Tilbury threw a hot liquid, which he later said was coffee, from his thermos onto Shaw.

Shaw was then attacked by the convicted murderer and, he said, at least one other man.

When it was all over, Shaw was bleeding from a cut on the head where he had been butted by someone. He believes it was Tilbury.

Seems to be that Campbell Barracks at Swanbourne doesn't just train soldiers to be SAS commandos.... Criminal endeavours appear to be endemic now

Something about WA's long coast line and quick out? We seem to hear about Campbell Barracks more than any other across Australia.

WA's Andrew Hastie, was he trained there?

Of the Gang responsible for abduction, kidnapping, and a murder, David Everett is deceased from cancer, James Reynolds committed suicide, and the other has never been identified, but is believed by WA Police to be another former SAS commando.

Is that the same old geezer from Furnissdale that wrote letters to the editor every week?
Apparently not, but I now think that I have a link between Taxi Driver Vernon Silich, to a former soldier, that was with David Everett in the SAS, via another Taxi driver (the one mentioned in Debbie Marshall's book) as they're pictured together in social media.
So it might show that there could've been an information trail from the stories of the Leopold case told by Robert Silich, all the way to David Everett, no doubt with a fair degree of exaggeration along the way.
The kidnap for extortion theory has just jumped the shark. IMO

The articles about Cousins and Mainwaring seem off topic for JCutlers disappearance.
Interesting nonetheless.

I read the two news stories (but not the pdf).
Should the pdf be downloaded -
Opinions ?

It's just a redacted memo and emails released by the Dept of Defence under FOI about the intrusion into Campbell Barracks at Swanbourne. It's of no consequence to Julie's case, other than another example of a culture of alleged drugs & criminal activities and associations with service members with Swanbourne Barracks.
Goes to painting a picture of the culture that David Everett and others might of been immersed in within .the world of the SAS.

Found it when looking for Crompvoet's report, but it's not been released as yet. There's request for it and a decision in the FOI list on http://www.defence.gov.au/FOI/Decisions/DisclosureLog.asp

Anyways, to be as impartial as I can about Campbell Barracks I tried to track down some accounts of life within the SAS that deal with everyday life at Swanbourne, just to confirm that recent media reports about criminal and drug behaviours are not as endemic as they say.
There's a dearth of information. This is the best that I found so far. But it's about life there in the 1960's.

What relevance does this have to this case? Are people suggesting that a military person was involved and/or there was a military cover up? Seems like cheap shots after the reports about current SAS personnel engaging in criminal activity came out.

A theory that's been around for a while, that an ex SAS soldier with priors for kidnapping may have been involved. That Julie's disappearance was a kidnapping for ransom gone horribly wrong, details are a page or so back. There might be something in it but agree we could probably move on its going a bit wide and getting hard to follow.
