Jumper clash fails

I still think GWS's home kit should be way more orange on the front (even simply swapping the charcoal and orange parts on the front would probably work), but it's a home kit and it deserves the same priority as any other club would get for a home game.

Hawthorn needs to come up with something better than what they're wearing to avoid a clash.

Don’t blame the AFL, it’s a GWS home game so Hawthorn need to do better.

It’s entirely the AFL’s fault. They approve all jumper designs and direct each club what to wear. If a club goes against the direction they are fined $5000 per player per game. No club has ever done it. The AFL Is the arbiter and is responsible for every issue raised in this thread.

Mero would argue - convincingly - that the current Essendon 'sash of poppies' is what really does that.

*for those who are unaware, Mero is the absolute legend behind the footyjumpers.com website where so many of us football nuts would have spent weeks of our life learning about the history of the game through the clubs guernseys and the 'go-to' resource in this thread for any 'this is a bad clash, this (from footyjumpers.com) is what the teams should have been wearing'.
Thank you for the kind introduction.
The correct use of the poppy, according to the Australian Army, is for it to be worn on Remembrance Day, 11 November every year.
On that day of the year, one Red poppy worn on the left breast signifies remembrance of those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in war.
To wear a sash full of poppies reduces the poppy to a design element that happens to be in a club colour.
I find that to be highly disrespectful.

Essendon and Collingwood do not wear Club jumpers on Anzac Day.
Essendon have been wearing a sash full of poppies since 2015, and Collingwood have stripes made of rosemary sprigs since 2021.
They might as well make one of them Khaki Green each year and then gaslight you with why that colour is more respectful to the Diggers.

Why didn’t GWS wear the black strip? It’s one of the league’s best outfits.
I reckon they get pressure to be the orange team and not another black team. Everyone seems to prefer the black strip but they keep switching back. Has to be some sort of external pressure

have a light uniform and a dark uniform (and if needed a white clash)

orange team (but without canberra on top unless its a canberra game)

I do totally agree. There must be someone very senior at AFL house that loves stupid mixed dark/light front/back uniforms with unnecessary white shorts. And putting the umpires in the worst possible option.

Once or twice and I can understand its a mistake. This many regular messes means some one maliciously is screwing with everything

The first two look great, the white one looks trash (and therefore the AFL will likely want them to wear it). It’s so unimaginative how almost every club’s go to solution is white.

As the away team Essendon have done the right thing and reduced the amount of black in their jumper.

Just joking of course, they've done nothing of the sort.

At least Collingwood's jumper is not as dark as the last time we were the home team on ANZAC Day.

It will just be the usual clash that occurs whenever Essendon are the away team.
Not really Essendons fault imo... AFL want them to wear their traditional kits. These clubs never used to clash until Collingwood changed their guernsey to a black base rather than a white base. Blame Collingwood and AFL.

True. I wish Collingwood would do what Geelong do for the Pies and go to the old style white base with black stripes whenever they play Carlton and Essendon.

Definately solely an AFL problem

A nonsense that Carlton will play in a clash against Adelaide, but not Essendon because they have a longer history against Essendon.

If the jumpers are too similar the AFL needs to determine what kit is acceptable.

Putting on white shorts IS NOT an acceptable solution to a jumper clash.
