Jumper clash fails

Definately solely an AFL problem

A nonsense that Carlton will play in a clash against Adelaide, but not Essendon because they have a longer history against Essendon.

If the jumpers are too similar the AFL needs to determine what kit is acceptable.

Putting on white shorts IS NOT an acceptable solution to a jumper clash.
Since it’s all about preserving the tradition, why don’t we enforce an away caps and knickerbockers rule for the away team? That’ll make it much more prominent

Not really Essendons fault imo... AFL want them to wear their traditional kits. These clubs never used to clash until Collingwood changed their guernsey to a black base rather than a white base. Blame Collingwood and AFL.
Its a clubs prerogative to change jumpers if they chose, no rule against it.

Blame the AFL absolutely its their bonehead policy and enforcement of it that ruins it but dont blame a club having jumpers that comply with said policy.

Still think the simplest solution is every club has a white version of their home strip and a third alternate kit. Yes its boring, yes they likely dont sell well but at this point we need to 3 year old solution that cant fail cause this issue is getting worse by the season not better.

The simple solution is for the AFL to make a list of every club’s clash clubs (ie Collingwood has North Melbourne, Geelong, Carlton) and tell them to propose their solution when they play those teams away. If the proposed away uniforms solve the clash tick them off, if not tell them they need a third option. This should all be based on the guernsey. Once a suitable solution (like predominantly white for Carlton away and the only two thin stripes of white on all black which Pies wore one year against North can be word against the other two) then the shorts should be selected by the league to maximise the difference in appearance.

So for Collingwood they would wear predominantly white with black stripes and white shorts away to Carlton and then wear the 2011 black uniform away to North and Geelong with black shorts while those teams wear white shorts. The Geelong and Collingwood situation in particular is still a clash even with Geelong wearing white shorts.

If you do that with every club the issue is entirely solved and it would only take about 10 minutes for each club at the start of the year. It genuinely seems like no one in the AFL thinks about it until the week of each game.

Yehhh...

Look at all those words, ive got a much simpler one.

Everyone has a white version and a third version. You use the white/third for all away games.

See how much simpler that is.

Giants v Lions not the best.
It's their home game and they should get the priority, etc...etc. But it feels like an almost weekly occurrence for GWS with their home guernsey being primarily one colour on the front and a different colour on the back. I'd much prefer GWS to build the orange as part of their brand like Freo with purple. But either more charcoal or more orange is the obvious solution, I would have thought.

Problem is I don't think Brisbane's current home or clash would have quite been acceptable against a more orange GWS home strip.

Brisbane had a solution with the white clash jumper but got rid of it. GWS don't help with their 2 tone home jumper but it's their home game so they should have the rights. Why is it not up to opposing clubs to come up with a suitable clash alternative for all scenarios?

2 weeks in a row where we've had a yellow vs orange jumper clash which is just ridiculous.

It is mainly on Brisbane (as it was mainly on Hawthorn last week), don't get me wrong.

But in the years to come, I think a few tweaks to GWS's home strip would make life a lot easier. That's their home kit for 2023, so in the short-term it's on the away teams to have a second or third strip that doesn't clash with it.

This front back different dark light needs to change.
Sydney. GWS. Number panels.
Sydney works fine because the shorts match the back of the jumper.

GWS Orange Back and Charcoal Front & Shorts is what causes issues.

Port's number panel is just unhelpful (also why I prefer the full red crusader over the traditional black number panel one), the bloody side panels sides choose to add some times are worse.

As I've said previously this would work much better:

Do GWS properly clash with anyone else other than Hawthorn and Brisbane? Whilst I agree their kit does create some additional clashes, it's hard to argue it's on them when both Hawthorn and Brisbane have previously had white clash kits, they've demonstrated there are easy solutions but just choose not to use them.

It depends on what you consider a clash, I suppose. It looks like there'd be problems with either the front, the back, or both with Adelaide, Essendon or St Kilda away (looking back at the match report from round 1 against Adelaide - Crows in home guernsey and white shorts - it wasn't great). It means there's some issues with a team like West Coast, where their yellow strip would work better from the front, but their blue would be better from the back.

Another weekend, another clash and another team with no white in their jumper wearing white shorts when the opposition does have white.

It's not the worst ever but West Coast should be in their yellow strip with yellow shorts.
What do you know the AFL have gone for the same again in this match. Can they find a way to make Geelong and Sydney clash tonight?

GWS should be in orange shorts if they've got a mainly orange jumper and orange socks. Just like Geelong in white shorts if there's any hint of a clash. Brisbane's home jumper would've been fine against the mainly bright orange.

Sydney only really clashes with the GCS. Mainly due to the fact we DONT wear white shorts when we are away.

Just think if we wore white shorts in this match.....Like some other teams.

Richmond, Essendon, WCE should really embrace yellow or red shorts a lot more.

Edit: we only wear white shorts when it helps prevent a clash. Essendon for example(or we did back in the day). We actually think about what shorts to wear

Not the worst clash I agree. Yellow would have been better. But we don't wear yellow shorts. Never have, never will.

Credit where it's due here, this strip is the best from Adelaide's current options for this particular game and the white shorts are good in this instance, but I think as a general rule, if teams who have stripes or hoops on their home guernsey want to keep that design for a clash guernsey, they should do something to make the clash less 'stripey/hoopy' (no hooped sleeves, for starters). In Adelaide's case, get rid of the top blue and yellow stripe.

Totally agree, it is much less of a clash than say Essendon v Carlton but it is a bit of a mess.

You’re kidding. The navy contrasts much better with our gold than the red, which looks very messy and is totally unnecessary.
