Jumper clash fails

I’m surprised Richmond didn’t wear their own clash strip anyway given the GF

Regardless, what did you expect? Carlton are a protected species when it comes to jumper clashes, much like Essendon + Collingwood and Hawthorn to a lesser extent
Not sure how you came up with this idea. We've had plenty of clash jumpers in recent years, much to the chagrin of rusted on supporters.

Having shit clash jumpers is an internal club **** up. How often you're actually made to wear them is another thing. Happy to be proven wrong here though, wouldn't be surprised if I'm underestimating

At no point during last night's game did I think that they clashed.

I'm at a loss as to why this thread gets created on the back of Richmond v Carlton when there are many examples of bigger clashes that we will likely see this season that we can collectively be outraged over.

There is a clash in the same way there is a clash between Adelaide & Richmond, it's laughable that one matchup forces an away jumper to be worn, the other, nada.

It's just another way in which the AFL embarresses itself along with other doozies like goal line video technology, tribunal decisions, fixturing, CEO salary & so on.

& yeah, wtf was with those shorts??

May just be me, but I can't watch Sydney v GWS games. Red back v orange back, both with a splash of white on the front. Screws with my brain.
Agree 100%. I don't find it as bad watching live, but definitely on TV the red and orange just seems to blur together. I'd much prefer the Swans to wear their predominantly white clash jersey when playing GWS away.

what's that got to do with it? Richmond were the home club.

yellow on black is Richmond's main and home uniform. the alternate well get a few goes when they're the designated away club and the home uni's are similar....i.e., next week
Yeah I mean that I'm surprised they didn't choose to wear it, given how iconised it's become after the GF, almost ironically. Would have been a bold marketing choice but might have paid off bc of the nostalgia attached to the flag unfurling

Fans would lose their shit

We dont want multiple jumpers, and we tolerate the inverse as the most palatable of a number of bad opinions, and to only be used when absolutely necessary

The dreamtime kit is the only time fans are generally on board with changing the home kit

I wouldn't be surprised if they wear it as their away jumper at every opportunity now it has such a big moment behind it.

I like the reverse sash jumpers. In the case of Essendon vs Melbourne adding more red to Essendon's uniform doesn't actually help the situation, but reversed colours is way better than inventing some bullshit design like we see in the JLT each year.

We've fiiiiiiiiiinally got it right with blue on gold and gold on blue as our two options. Simple and effective.

How dare the AFL force us to have a clash jumper and ruin 100 years of heritage! Rage, rage, rage...

Oh I love this year's version of the indigenous round jumper!

kind of annoying tbh we had to wear a clash jumper in our first grand final in over 30 years yet carlton as the away side didn't have to last night. on tv at times it was hard to tell who was who

I never liked white shorts with the home jumper, should have been all grey or all navy blue.

Considering Richmond's jumper has a great big yellow ****ing sash through the middle I'd say it should have been all navy.

Every rfc fan prefers our jumper to any indigenous or clash variation we have had, and most likely ever will

Im also not asking for preferential treatment, just acknowledging rfc will only ever be a minimalist club on this

We will never play in our clash for a home game. Thats a fact

As mentioned above, we have had no real change on our board. People wanting to buy the clash version only wanted to by the gf replica. People were pissed when it sold out and the option was the 2018 edition

Sorry mate, wasn’t have a go at you or Richmond in particular, more in general about the difference in views. Most supporters will sook about any changes to their traditional strip, but seem to be more accommodating with indigenous strips. It’s a bit of a double standard.

all good, i do get where you are coming from there. FWIW i dont mind the indigenous round because at least the change means something and clubs (mostly) put effort into the design. sugar daddy's and shit like the country round is just bullshit

tbh genuinely conflicted on the anzac ones. dont like commercializing the day, but some clubs have respected the day via design IMO better than others (in outcome not intent).

Why are Adelaide in their clash tonight then? By choice?
They always wear it against us and we never wear it against them. Which is why I'm so confused.
This was the game from last year at Adelaide Oval

I don’t have a problem with change in general, as long as it looks good. I know I’m going against the grain with our new strip, but I don’t mind it (shorts and all).
I think the Anzac ones need to be subtle. I really liked the Essendon one where they made the sash out of poppies. Thought it was classy.

100% agreed on anzac. though efc nailed it with their first poppy version

big thing for me is consistency

1) afl MUST be consistent in its interpretations

2) who must play who in a clash must be locked in pre-season, not days prior (like happened to port and wce against us)

3) kill white shorts away. use common sense based upon the competing clubs, AND it must be lock in in advance

4) clubs can come to mutual agreement. if (purely as an example, not advocating it), wce and rfc negotiated to have eagles in the peril and tigs in their black strip, all good AS LONG as it creates sufficient clash based upon standard AFL requirements. only clubs can agree to this themselves, AFL cannot force a home club to wear a jumper outside its home one

Why not be like every sport in the world, every team have a home and away jumper? Simples.

Or forget the whole home/away concept entirely, and have each club produce three different kits (let's say light, dark and alternate, for argument's sake), and it's determined long before each game which combination between the two teams produces the greatest contrast and least clash.

Last night it would have made sense for Richmond to wear their yellow guernsey with the black sash (I think they should adopt this as their primary strip anyway, as it provides a point of difference to other teams), or for Carlton at the very least to wear white shorts (instead of grey shorts that looked soiled with faux pockets/air vents on the back - WTF?)
