Ww had two. And they rated through the roof, including two low drawing Melbourne teams (Melb vs Dogs) rating higher than Coll vs Bris in the day.

About the yellow ball, even during the day match it would have been better yesterday. You could honestly hardly see the footy at times yesterday.

They rated highly because no one was allowed out of the house so had nothing better to do…

No parties of 15-20 people watching one stream or 100s at a pub like every other grand final.

It also didn’t matter when it finished as there was nothing to do but go to bed.

They rated better because everything rates better at night. That’s not an opinion it’s a fact. That’s why it’s called prime time. And it’s why 99% of major events are scheduled in prime time. It is worth more to advertisers.

You can prefer what you want, but the facts are the night time AFL games rate higher than daytime AFL games. And they look better on TV too with the yellow ball which should please the aesthetically minded people in this great thread.

When are people gonna realise this is f*cked because Sydney's guernsey is f*cked. Let's just get rid of f*cked jumpers. Please nobody tell me it's their right to wear a f*cked jumper. South Melbourne's jumper had a white back with red numbers for how long? It was a great f*cken jumper. Then they tried to reinvent the bloody wheel. Half/half front/back jumpers are f*cked and should be disallowed by the league. Who agrees?

Sydney's home kit is perfectly fine. It's clearly Red based and their clash kit is clearly white based so their available kits are just about perfect to account for any match up as the home or away team so long as the AFL is using common sense.

There really is only 3 clubs that have problematic home jumpers when it comes the away team being able to prevent a clash.

• GWS because of the dark front and shorts and light back - a switch to a charcoal back would solve and the addition of an orange based clash.
• Port because of the white number panel - pissing off the number panel would solve
• Collingwood because they keep messing with the percentages and stretching the front so on some players the side panels no longer exist making the home jumper pretty much a white based jumper with black number panel. Reverting to the same proportions as Hawthorn or North would solve.

Most of the clash problems are because the AFL don't insist on the use of clash kits anywhere near as much as they should and because of white shorts.

The AFL should have directed Brisbane to wear their yellow clash kit (preferably with matching shorts)

If the Swans had been designated the away team almost certainly they would have been in wearing their white based kit.

Which is common for Spring in Melbourne. If you think aesthetics of the game is important (re: jumper clashes) then the clash of a red ball against the red crowd in sunshine should make any aesthetically minded person to want to the game at night.

Night is better aesthetically. It just is. Everyone knows it. Yellow is the most receptive colour to the eye. The yellow ball looks magnificent on TV.

Well everything is a compromise. You can put up with a day GF while still being frustrated at the absolute stupidity of jumper clashes, when clash kits have been around for more than 20 years now.

There's been plenty of sunny grand finals where it has not been a problem, like Cats Hawks, Pies Eagles, Cats Eagles, pies Lions even.

It’s irrelevant. Anybody looking at two uniforms side by side can tell them apart, obviously.

While I completely agree with the points you make, I still think it is absolutely relevant. There are lots of people that are vision-impaired... and there are way too many idiots in this thread going "hur hur, I didn't see a clash, so it must be fine." I thought we'd left that sort of discriminatory bullshit back in the 80s. I have several older family members that struggle to follow the game and they really, really shouldn't have to.

No issues with the Swans. They have a red home kit and a white away kit. It works.

Lions have a yellow away kit so wasn’t a problem.

Of course though, standard AFL:

• they don’t wear it
• they don’t have the matching shorts.

Brisbane Lions have both yellow and blue as club colours. It shouldn't be an issue. It was, but shouldn't be.

Realistically, following simple principles of light, colour (opposite colour wheels), dark, the only real issues would be when teams wear home uniforms of light/dark against a team that doesn't have a colour as part of club colours (see Collingwood/Geelong situations).
