Hope you guys aren't getting annoyed with my posting.

Carlton's change to their traditional monogram should be the first step of a major rebrand IMO.
Their current clash is visually confusing, and I don't know about you, but I associate it with poor performances.
Carlton need to reestablish themselves as a club of envy. I've used gold to establish a feeling of regality, with a couple polarising shades of blue.
I used Real Madrid as a point of reference for this design. Real has no redeeming features, they're so easy to hate, yet play incredible football and have never been aesthetically unpleasant.

I like the idea of gold or silver as a tertiary colour for Carlton.

Like what Geelong have done with their off field stuff this year
Geelong have done very well with using gold as a tertiary colour, as seen on their polo shirts. Carlton already have a blue-ish silver in their logo, so it wouldn't be much of a step for them to start using it a bit more

Personally, I think Carlton's return to the older monogram is a mistake.

It's an emotional choice from their members but not a good design choice. In my opinion it makes the club look old fashioned and out of date, and attempting to appeal to older generations of fans, rather than the youth.

A rebrand is in order but my advice would have been to go in a more modern direction. Below is something I started last year. I didn't get it to the point I was looking for but you get the idea which direction I mean:

I come yet agree with this. I said when they first announced the change that I'd laugh if it had the opposite effect to what they intended (they wanted to emulate a time where they were winning all the time) and lo and behold, that's what happened.

It's sad that it has happened, but it's still amusing in some way

Geelong are already going for the blue-white-gold aesthetic so not sure Carlton would as well.

I don't think they believed it would literally translate to a successful era

I think I remember that they wanted to do such a thing by changing. I'm pretty sure it was in a statement that the club released.

They said that the retro monogram was used during a more successful era of the club and that by wearing it once again it would hopefully reignite that winning spirit.

I'm not criticising the choice because they are playing poorly, I'd still say it was bad if they were top.

I found it bizarre at the time and I still do. It looks clunky to me. And sure, they might have won premierships in it, but it was also an era when the players drank booze at training.

And like I said, I agree. To me, it doesn't match up with the modern era of the game. As you said, it's clunky

There's a good chance that an entire generation will now associate the historic monogram with the failure of the Malthouse era.

The historic monogram is objectively worse than the modern one. I think they made the wrong decision to go back to it full time.
