Been thinking that Sydney's home jumper would look better with a white back. Coupled that with an all red clash jumper.

Noice :thumbsu: alt kit would probably want red shorts though

Of course it would, switch the shorts around and you have a great modern set.

Many others here have done this already. Sydney's current jumper is becoming an anachronism, I would even go so far as to say it would have probably already been changed if it was not for the fact that it was worn in so many GFs and 2 premierships.
If searching 'define anachronism' on google gave me the right definition, then there's a lot about football that fits that description.

From an aesthetic viewpoint, some AFL jumpers may be considered to be anachronisms and could use improvement, and I feel that's part of FJGD's purpose. If we consider an alternate point-of-view, that of a jumper's underlying meaning, we can see that in the real life AFL landscape, anachronisms should be embraced.

To expand, symbolism is a powerful tool in creating a successful team identity. To cite a real life AFL example, Essendon fans ardently embrace their traditional red-sash-on-black. Their support stems from the symbolism of the guernsey itself - the historical significance, the premierships won wearing it.

From our perspective as designers, to allow more freedom for creative expression we should consider breaking the mould and trying something new.Nevertheless, this doesn't mean go crazy with abandon for the sake of it - we should pay more courtesy to a team's identity.

Anchoring is a cognitive bias that describes the common human tendency to rely too heavily on the first piece of information offered (the "anchor") when making decisions. Applying this theory to jumper aesthetic, fans need an "anchor" to appropriately judge its quality. That anchor is the anachronism.

To coin a new term, anchorism is the idea that both the meaning and the aesthetic of the jumper are two interrelated forces. Both affect the other. On FJGD, however, where we as AFL fans can appreciate the importance of historical significance, we should find a nice mix between good-looking and historical.

DonKay produced a rather neat example above with an aesthetic improvement upon a traditional design. It's Darwin's theory at play, evolving into modernity. In any case, I've rambled long enough.

tl;dr I've said it before and I'll say it again. The best and most meaningful designs aren't always the best looking.

Next season:

• Western Bulldogs 120th year in existence
• 120 years since Essendon's, and the VFL/AFLs, first flag
• The Adelaide Crows' first flag will have been 20 years ago
• The 20th season of the combined Fitzroy Football Club-Brisbane Bears, 'Brisbane Lions'

Right? Just had a quick skim there. Not a huge amount of scope really, every jumper from those times is basically being used now (it feels nice saying that).
Collingwood's 125th birthday. This year is 125th season we've competed, but we've always taken the previous approach. It's the dogs 140th next year.

Give this man a job, Sydney!

GWS
GWS's uniforms honestly need a new makeover after what they've shown us these past few years. The third kit is based on an soccer third kit style design. Made the black darker to show a more fierce approach.

The big G's need to be moved to the right. They look a bit incomplete.

Klim had a few similar to this based on the cycling jersey that some clubs have. It looked pretty good in his mockup

A faux back of what though?
Fauxback meaning a fake throwback to a nonexistent traditional jumper
