Interesting. Couldn't disagree more. Lack of Demon shows a lack of identity in my opinion.
The new logo nails the strength of their identity which is their history. Oldest pro sports team in the world. OG tenants of the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Barassi. Norm.

Demons is a good, recognisable nickname but it isn't necessary primary imagery when you have so much history to draw from.

The previous logo was chock full of imagery and it was terrible. Strip it back to what's important - they're the Melbourne Football Club. Old as the game itself, or the white guy's version of it. I think tradition is best expressed simply, too. So two focal points - the name and the monogram. The former is obvious and I reckon a good move to lean on the Melbourne name, it's a good thing to have dibs on. Kinda like if one of the 500 London clubs had dibs on it the city's name... I know West Ham have tried to shoehorn it into their new logo. And the monogram - it's identifiable, historically relevant, implies a sense of history and it sits great on its own on merchandise and in digital spaces.

They've mucked around long enough with logo changes, I think they've had something like 7 in the last 20 or 30 years. They've settled on one that promotes the strength of their brand and is versatile enough to work wherever it needs to.

Not explicitly referring to the nickname in your logo doesn't mean the fans won't continue to engage with it, too.

Hawthorn's colours are Brown and GOLD, not yellow. Yellow is a colour that Richmond wears.

The number panel was something that the club wore at a time where it was impossible to wear anything else. It wasn't possible to wear numbers on a jumper when the jumper was brown and gold stripes if it wasn't on a white number panel with black numbers. The club moved away from having stripes on the back of the jumper and introduced brown numbers to go on the gold backs.

Jumpers are not made of wool anymore, and the designs are printed onto the jumpers not sewn on. Now stripes can end at a certain place on a jumper and begin again elsewhere. The reason I liked the plain gold backs was that we wore them during our seven year Grand Final run during the 1980's. But the stripes on the back cut by a golden area for numbers is what I want now. It looks like the jumpers worn during the number panel era, but also looks like the jumpers of the plain gold backs with the brown numbers.

I was first introduced to the brown stripes on the same jumper as a brown number by Robert DiPierdomenico in his book Dipper's Fabulous Fantastic Footy Fun (& Fact) Book. This book that came out in 2005, which was before the stripes and number panel returned to Hawthorn jumper in 2006.

I can see both sides to a story and I love Hawthorns colours. When I first really started to follow Footy I saw the hawks number panel and loved how thier stripes went all the way up the back of the jumper. I've always had a soft spot for the hawks and no matter what they wear they always should be wearing Brown & Gold stripes.

Tried my hand at designing a Suns rebrand (as have many others). I have dabbled in designing years ago when I first joined (and when I was much younger) but thought I might have another go. Template is the ScottFreo paint template (I use photoshop but I can't get my head around layers and whatnot) so I found the paint bucket and magnetic lasso to be excellent for what I was trying to go for. Also, I like the flat look as well

Credit: waves are from getdrawings.com and supercolouring.com. Palm tree came from a Google Image (forgotten where exactly). Sand comes from Wikipedia. AFL number font is the one found in the Templates thread. Logos come from various Google Searches.

Nice idea. Though I feel like too much is going on?

When I finished that was my one concern. Removing the waves and adding a sand-style design under the palm tree does clean things up significantly however Screen Shot 2018-08-21 at 2.03.58 pm.png

Not feeling the design but love the execution

Bombers have secured Amart Furniture as their new co-major sponsor alongside Fujitsu. A deal worth $2M sees them replace KIA.

Unfortunately, this also means we're probably going to be dealt with this awful white boxes with the logos inside them..

I would much rather the clean cut look below with the logos cropped... But when they pay $2M a year I can't help but think they'll want their logo to stick out more.

Definitely prefer the non-boxed look. Although the white boxes give off a heritage vibe recalling back to good ol' Nubrik :)
I reckon they could pull it off on the front, though the back may need a box?

I know, I was just wanting to make you sweat ;) What's the brand's tertiary colour? Not red, not white....
Mission successful then!

Navy blue? I can't see how that would work with our red and black really, it'd stick out like dogs balls, similar to how the Samsung blue block did.
