I forever feel like if they switched to navy blue and navy blue collar and cuffs their home jumper would be an all-timer (much like some of the Fitzroy designs).

big agree, maroon and royal blue just don't go together like maroon and navy blue. they should wear navy shorts too

To be honest if they switched to blue collar and cuffs it would be slicker. I don't know if the navy change would net much difference, but I've done a mockup of my change i sent to classic (with some extra stripes) and the navy/maroon with a white lion.

Note i've also used the original darker maroon from the 60s Fitzroy kits

Navy just isn't a colour that the (Fitzroy) Lions have worn ongoing since before the change to red kits, and would be a bit too dark for an ongoing kit (imo). Unless you also swapped the Lion to a classic white colour as well, but I doubt they would go that far.

Here's what I'm talking about:

The difference is subtle, but I think there's a little bit less of a clashing feeling with the navy. Royal blue goes better with the red away kit. The navy isn't as dark as a Carlton blue, it's closer to the actual navy blue Fitzroy used to use.

I like this a lot.

In terms of colour balance it's much cleaner I feel.

Off the back of the above commentary on the Lions kit, i actually don't now think the darker maroon/navy would work unless you went with a white Lion and potentially white shorts (which actually looks quite clean).
See below screeny of the 2016 Hall of Fame kit worn in round 14

have we ever seen this colour combination with a gold monogram or lion? I don't see why it can't work, it looks good in mockups

In order for a yellow lion to work perfectly, eeeeverything needs to be darkened. Look at the Crows navy and gold for example.

The gold the Lions use now is a very washed version, it needs more of darker gold to suit, personally.

this shade of gold works fine on the red and blue away jumper. And the maroon home jumper, for that matter. I think everyone's overthinking it.

Tell you where it doesn't work, the white away Clash kit! My gf loved the gold Clash from 2019 so much she (as a new follower of the game) bought one the moment she saw it

To be honest i'd be pretty happy to go the red kit full time and the gold for clashes, but i do love the white lions and numbers on maroon. Also still keen on the Lions doing Qclash heritages too with the Bears V at the Gabba and Cerise kit at Metricon!

I also think i'd need to see the navy shorts in action to appreciate it more, the maroon shorts are pretty iconic.

Saw this pretty sleek looking tasmania jumper which would look decent for the new side. View attachment 1210848
They're such great colours when used properly - so good. The team definitely has to be that bottle green, and then the designers can work around that.
