Jumper numbers in 2011

Blair is the only one that a change could work being a rookie number and all, but I think 47 suits the little fella and it'd be awesome if he wore ot for 200 games as a live example to any rookie that they can if they work hard achieve anything

The little fella is doing Mark Fraser's jumper proud !

The players play for the jumper, not the number on it's back.

Are Lecaff and Dawes staying in their respective numbers?

Really would like to see Dawes takeover Pebs' #23.

If Luke Rounds is given #9, hopefully he can do it proud. Been awhile since we've had some luck with that number.

a snapshot of the #9 appearances since 1990 and Brian Taylor

Glenn Freeborn 83 games
John Anthony 43 games
Matthew Francis 36 games
Julian Rowe 18 games
Jon Ballantyne 9 games
Andrew Tarpey 5 games
Brad Hardie 2 games

I am on the don't change premership numbers theory. At the end of the day I am sure it will be left up to the players but I am all for leaving the guys in their jumpers now. Give them a chance to build a history of sucess in the number they won their first premiership in.

I am also not for rushing the youngen's into the lower numbers off the bat.

Also Dawes at 31 is hardly a high number that needs to be lower and giving him big Pebs number would be unfair to him IMO.

Lol again I agree with you. For some reason that number does just suit him,for the life of me I can't say why though.

Four foot seven ?
47 inches ?
Millimetres?

Does anyone know why Heater hasn't taken over the number 23, his dad's old number? I was sure he was hanging onto #39 only until Pebs retired and freed it up, but he didn't take it this year even though nobody else did.
Do you think maybe he just wanted to make the #39 famous? Or perhaps his old man has told him not to because he has the shits with us and wants him to go somewhere else when his contract expires?

Whaddaya reckon?

You're not a glass half full man, are ya.

I think Jarryd Blair, Chris Dawes and Brent Macaffer are the first players to request jumper upgrades if they want one seeing as they are premiership players.

Obviously Tarrant has claimed #2.

As for the others, personally, I'd like to see Josh Thomas and Luke Rounds offered jumper upgrades because as Nick Maxwell said at hte return of pre-season, these guys are now being looked at as senior players- we wanted to debut them last season but couldn't fit them in. Big wraps on both.

The new crop of draftees will be given whatever is available.
What about Heath Shaw updating, to wear his dads old # 23 . Ray Shaw ended the club tradition of Captain wearing # 1, to retain his 23 when appointed captain in 1979.

This could be the year for Heath and #23. The number 'wasnt available' in 2010 after being retired for 12 months in honor of Rocca and his service to the club.

Got this off twitter" Breakfast at Sicilianorange with #12 and new #7 (#31) salmon, and eggs amazing!".

I would say going by the above tweet, Dawes will be wearing number the 7 this year.

I think Dawes and Medhurst were really close mates though, so maybe Dawes is taking it as a tribute to Meds, as much as anything.

You could just see Meds and Dawes sitting around chatting about philosophy and literature before training, hehe.:D

I like the change, Dawes has the potential to be a superstar forward in the AFL, and if he wants Meds' old number, then great.:thumbsu:

I didn't see too many supporters wearing number 31 this year anyway, and this may the supporters with Meds' number on their back have a worthy replacement.

I'm getting a new jumper this week, thinking of putting 22 on the back, Steele will be around for a while yet, plus it's a bit of a homage to the great players of the past that have worn it at our club.:thumbsu:

^ Change from 2010

14, 24 and 25 are the 3 "young" numbers to watch this year.

Blair up to 11, strange for a premiership winning player to do so, but hey, he did have 47, and 11 is a great jumper.

Rounds gets Corries' jumper, big shoes to fill, hehe.
