I've noticed there are a few "no-go" zones when it comes to American leagues and their "franchises"... must be a population thing, which is why we won't see teams in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming or North Dakota. Strangely though, Nevada seems to be off limits. Surely Las Vegas can support a team? Or is it the domain of boxing and boxing only?

The other thing with Las Vegas is its literally in the middle of a desert. Whilst they manage to have almost everything else there I'm not sure how easy it would be to base a professional football, baseball or basketball team there. The weather is quite ridiculous

If I could change one thing about the American leagues, I'd go back in time and institute rules that the teams can't be relocated or renamed on a whim... clubs would have had to develop membership schemes like they do in AFL. It can't be done now because it's evolved too far. But if I had my way, well, the Lakers would still be in Minneapolis, the Warriors in Philadelphia, the Jazz in New Orleans among others.

Las Vegas is the 30th biggest city, smaller than Milwaulkee who have two pro teams, Nashville, who have two, (but are both regarded as small markets) and El Paso & Louisville who also have none.
added to that the weather and the reliance on gambling dollars and Las Vegas isn't neccessarily a great option.
Albuquerque is only slightly smaller and no-one is calling out for their pro team. And their name is far more fun to say.

Las Vegas doesn't have a solid nor fixed community, most people who live there come and go... it's kind of like Antarctica :p

Without knowing too much, I'd say Las Vegas is a little like the Gold Coast.

I just don't think the Gold Coast is fertile ground for sporting franchises. The terribly embarrassing off-field issues for Gold Coast United epitomise this. Before them, the Super League had the Chargers - obviously ill-fated. I hope the Suns fare well (with their power backing, I think they will). But the socio-economics of the area certainly limit sporting success (off field, that is). Nevada is likely like this. It's a city reared on a different culture.

I find the temporary culture of American sport to be interesting. The examples are obvious and in abundance. As you mentioned, a whole teams fortunes and history can be changed relatively quickly. It's almost like a disregard for identity and history. Yet the capital of capitalism still disallows obvious sponsorship - which is enviable, yet strange. Not even one of America's big leagues allows logos on tops.

Are US sports relocations usually met with huge disdain? The very prospect of North becoming Gold Coast, or, the Fitzroy dilemma, is a huge deal for football fans in Australia.

Yes it was.
It was originally designed in MS Paint for a PBeM League I was in, in completely different colours.
In fact, Mr Eagle helped me convert it over to Illustrator when I was first learning to use it.

Oooh, whoa. Flashback to the early days of jumper designing :D

Can't agree with you on that one SA, I live about 30 mins from the Gold Coast and its not all Glitz and Glamour like everyone says, a little bit is (Surfers Paradise) but besides that its just like any other beach town, only bigger

Yeah this is what I'm thinking too SA... your words put it better.

This is what I posted on the North Fitzroy board earlier this year
I was for the merger as I didn't want Fitzroy to merge with Brisbane and now I barrack for North Melbourne. Hoe ironic that I didn't want Fitzroy to go north and NM almost did 3 year ago.
Here is my take on a jumper using maroon and blue with the Fitzroy Yoke and North stripes backed with white numbers[/quote]

Back in August 2005 West Coast sent out a member survey that had some guernsey options, one for a new home guernsey (that they eventually changed to in 2007) and a white clash. The thread discussing it is here. Unfortunately Mr Eagle's pictures have mostly disappeared. Amongst the three clash options were two very similar ones with the only difference being the piping in the collar and cuffs. It looked like the white training guernsey but the WCE logo had been made larger and moved to the bottom of the guernsey.

The other option was this one. How we ended up with our current clash and not this one is beyond me.
