Actually I was at the game where McCrae actually threw the game plan out at three quarter time . He specifically mentioned this in the huddle and told them to go long and direct and play on self belief and natural instinct. We piled on nine goals in the last and up until then I had little respect for him as a coach not realising he was under the thumb trying to implement DH great plan.

This is a similar story to what I heard from family who was there, it's an intersting issue given the vfl team improved after that and the senior team lurched from worse to worse.

IT'S a preposterous notion to think that DH ordered a change in game style for the VFL team ... to supposedly prepare players for AFL duties (Half of which are ineligible to play AFL due to being rookie listed players of VFL listed players only) and not carry through with a similar game plan at senior level. The form lines late in the season between our AFL and VFL teams were chalk and cheese.

If we lose to Carlton...........and Collingwood, I think he should be sacked, it shows the game plan hasn't worked and the list (IMO) is better than losing to two poor teams in succession. Rip the Band-Aid off quickly and start the season in round 3.


However I can't for the life of me see a loss in round 1, and round 2 I think will be morior invictus after round 2 last year.

If this is the case the Mods should ban these individuals (surely this has to be against the BF rules) as i would say that is the very definition of a troll, inciting arguments whilst changing and modifying their position.

McRae's position is an interesting one this year. He worked wonders with the material at his disposal in the VFL last season, only narrowly missing out on finals. Arguably, he has better players at his disposal this year and I expect him to take the side deep into the finals, possibly even the Grand Final. Dimma also has a better set of players to work with as well as a vastly more effective team of line coaches. He, like all the other AFL coaches, is responsible for determining and oversighting the execution of the game plan. If he stumbles again, I believe he will be offered a termination package. The Board's decision will be made easier with the knowledge that the Club has a talented, albeit untried, senior coach in waiting in the form of McRae. They may also bear in mind that a successful McRae will also be an attractive option as senior coach at other Clubs who may feel the need to replace their AFL coaches.

To be fair goldy el presidente said a finals win was the pass mark before it was ignored, I don't remember Damien saying top 4. But I do remember adding cream to the cake.

Here is where i get in trouble with my fellow posters.
Imo he does not have a good list he has a decent 22 24 or so That is competetive against most sides but then there is a cliff. Even the best 22 is heavily reliant on half a dozen or so players with the rest being average and juniors striving to reach a consistent standard.

Imo the only area with adequate quality proven depth and with some young kids in the pipe line is our inside stocks.
Cotchin, Martin, Prestia, Miles, Caddy, all afl standard midfield players with Vlastuin Graham being developed in the role.

Personally even here id like one more big mid in the Kennedy mould at least in development, a kid like Brodie would have been ideal. Still cannot work out why Fremantle cut Barlow or why we did not go after him as well.

Lastly im still in the camp of the club taking the wrong direction regardless of where we finish this yr.

Last time I checked, to win a premiership you have to win finals - a minimum of three finals.

thats because it is..

even if its not a good list (thats coming from Mopsy, bloke who rates everyones list as being better than ours) it is still better than the list he had when he arrived, even 2-3 years ago.
