Coach Justin Longmuir Pt 2

Like, nobody gets a hold of us, even with the massive pressure disparity and that Hawks game looks pretty decent in hindsight. So its not a tactical or talent issue.

That's what annoys the hell out of me. We clearly good enough if you just have a ****ing proper crack.

Hardline and direct coaching is what we need. Kisses and cuddles wont do it.

There is a risk of that, yes. I think we get found out quickly in finals playing like this though.

Get belted at home in a QF or SF or something because we don't get out of first gear should make it obvious.
I’ve tried to see the positives in JL and I do think there are some.
But since the night of the Collingwood final at the MCG two years ago I have always believed that his gamestyle simply will not stack up in finals.
The level of manic aggression the pies brought that night was startling. A real eye opener to what is required to win big finals in this comp.

We overuse the handball.
This leads to players fumbling more than normal, but often this is only evident in finals type games.
This leads to costly turnover and an inability to ever truly control a game.

On top of that tonight, we had a team that played as if they were Gold Coast playing an end of season meaningless match when they are out of finals contention. No intensity. No agression. No fire or passion.

It finally appears in the last to a degree but the damage was done.

Huge decision facing the FFC board right now.

The lack of team celebrations after goals was telling. We genuinely went in trying to pretend this was round 14. That’s just not how sport works.

Edit. Voss was the only one going mental but that’s just his nature.

Lost to 3 top 4 sides by like 2 goals each game just beaten by better sides. Remember where we came from last year there was massive improvement we just have no depth for when Treacy and Pearce went out
We were a top 4 side !! The reason we arnt now is because we lost 4 on the trot.

Whether its Longmuir, Graham or one of the other coaches how in the hell do you play Reidy in the forward line at the same time as Fyfe. The club needs to put out a 5 year offer ($7.5m) next week to C Scott, John Longmire or Luke Beveridge if they are half serious.

I actually agree with this about the lack of celebrations.
Great teams have huge characters in them. We just don’t. We look like a team of schoolboys out there at times

This is only half right. We're still in almost every game, even with the pressure differential. So its not a tactical thing.

If we were down on both pressure and tactics, we'd be getting flogged.

The only major issue I see is the intensity. Theoretically very fixable but its hard to see it right now and I am genuinely concerned that it is intentional.

Yes and the boys played ****ing good the past 4 weeks we just arent a finished product and failed to win the close ones the real tell on JL as a coach is next year if we learn from our mistakes
Do you think any of the top coaches that lost 4 games in a row would say they played good? That’s totally accepting mediocrity

You know you can be proud of how you played and angry that you lost. I’m pissed we missed finals but to say we played shit that’s just wrong we played some flipping good footy just aren’t good enough for long enough. If we don’t make top 4 or at least a semi next year I’d be happy to sack JL but it’s just reactionary to want him gone this year

How many next years before we know?

If JL didn't make big changes to the gameplan after 2023 where we got found out, why would he next year? He clearly thinks his way is the right way, and we get exposed almost every single time the pressure is turned up.

How the **** are we going to win a flag if we play a game style that doesn't stand up to pressure?

Am I hearing correctly that Longmuir basically did his usual spiel at the press conference? All is well, boys did their hardest etc.

Apparently said Fyfe and Walters have earnt their spot for next year and there's no reason they shouldn't play on, not concerned about our injuries either.

4 weeks ago when we were sitting 3rd bet you were loving the game style it obviously works we were 3rd. The problem where the season went to shit is Treacy got injured and Pearce got injured and Darcy is just a fat **** who’s always injured and we have no one to replace them with. Those 3 play these last 4 games we are 2nd on the ladder. That’s the difference

"Execute" was the key word for this one.

Actually the real tell about learning from mistakes was this year. 2023 was our ****-up and forgive year.

Hahaha surely not?

So just more of the same next season lovely.

Well all I can say is I hope we don't trade any future picks.

If what we put up this again with both of them a year older, those picks will be good this time next year.

Now hear me out….

JL doesn’t appear to have the X factor to take this very promising group to the pinnacle, would it be silly to go for Ken Hinkley, who probably won’t be coaching Port next season. I know Kern hasn’t got them a flag but he has consistently put them in a position to at least have a genuine crack. I reckon he’d jump at the Freo job if given a 4 year deal.

I reckon he would get us into finals and challenging for the flag more than JL would.

Just a thought…
