Coach Justin Longmuir Pt 2

Now hear me out….

JL doesn’t appear to have the X factor to take this very promising group to the pinnacle, would it be silly to go for Ken Hinkley, who probably won’t be coaching Port next season. I know Kern hasn’t got them a flag but he has consistently put them in a position to at least have a genuine crack. I reckon he’d jump at the Freo job if given a 4 year deal.

I reckon he would get us into finals and challenging for the flag more than JL would.

Just a thought…

If Ken Hinkley can emulate similar finals success at Freo like he did at Port from 2013-24, bring him in

What, finals experience?

Have you enjoyed freos finals success from 1995 to 2024? Only once has Freo had sustained finals run or make back to back finals. That was only once in 2012-15.

Hinkley has given Port Back to back finals 3 times in 12 seasons : 2013-4, 2020-21 and 2023-24.

If Hinkley breaks through this year, will you change your tune? Because honestly I’d prefer frustrating competitiveness over the meek stuff we’re getting now
I got mocked for Having Ken Hinkley as freo coach.

I wont mind him making finals for 2 or 3 years in a row.

Hinkley? JFC

A good sleep and a decompress needed by a fair few I think.

There are far better coaches than Ken I'd prefer we stake our future on in the scenario where Longmuir gets his marching orders.
Ken Hinkley would of got us to finals this year at a minimum.

Hell, he could guide this club back to back elim final losses and would be our 2nd best coach in our history

Hmm, I can also throw out unfalsifiable statements...Peter Bell would've taken us to top 4 if he'd been coaching.

Ken is a fine coach but his finals record where it matters with a couple of very handy Port squads is currently less than stellar. Not even a GF, also featuring multiple blown home QFs/PFs. You can rattle off all of the finals appearances by season etc as is your want but ultimately Ken has thus far proven he's not capable of taking a talented team to a flag. That might change this year and if it does I'll re-evaluate, but for now this is a guy Port supporters have been actively protesting against for years. They wanted his head on a pike in July this year ffs.

And before I get accused of being a Longmuir stan. I'd be perfectly fine with Chris Scott taking the reigns. I just don't think that'll happen so it leaves me in a position where, on the balance of probabilities, it's ok to stick with the incumbent.

So you rather continue the next couple of seasons finishing 9th to 12th under Justin Longmuir?

No, I'm suggesting these players who are elite footballers and directly involved in the day-to-day might have a better idea of how things are going behind the scenes than a bunch of hurt fans.
Do you know what is more meaningful than both "elite footballers" and "hurt fans"?

The ****ing ladder.

You should check it out sometime.

Seriously mate you need to go to the club asap and show them this crystal ball you have. Spare us all the pain.

I outlined my reasoning re coaching changes. If you don't want to address that, it's fine. Agree to disagree.

That's ok, mate. Let it all out.

Defending the indefensible is hardly passion
Backing your team in through adversity is absolutely passion. Eating your own when things look bleak is the sort of shit that kept clubs like Richmond and now Essendon down for decades.

You're no more passionate than me for being pessimistic.

Everyone is at different stages some fans who have been there since the start are the most upset and don't believe anything this club dishes out ......all depends on how long you been supporting and your tolerance levels

No it ****ing doesn't.

I've been there from the start with everybody else, I've grown up with this club.

I back Jl.

The players though. Surely. 4 straight ****ing weeks on the line, surely the players don’t crumble.

Jl coaches this team to an extent, it’s the players that have to stand up.
4.6 to 4.0.
4.6!
Wagner and Sharp asking for the ball 20m away from the kicker. Spare me

Switta gets a mark inside 50, 35m out. I said to my dad- watch, he ll miss this and won’t make it.
What happened next play? The ball ends up at the other end with JHF roasting a perfectly straight drop punt halfway up the goal posts 50m out.

Could Ross Lyon coach this team ? I don’t know, because just dont see any clutch, nor edge or hard but within this group.
No one to just get in there and have 10+ tackles.

I feel like the expected score is misleading tbh. I think the quality of their shots were far greater than ours. Sure we stuffed some chances but I don't think we threw that away with our goalkicking - we didn't miss any really easy shots.

I’ve tried the backing through adversity for 30 years. It hasn’t worked. Not changing anything and expecting to improve is not going to work and hasn’t yet. Try something different. Turn the place upside down. We don’t know unless we try it. Stop being conservative.

It’s the shots we didn’t get to take that cost us in the 2nd half. The lack of composure from about half way through the third in our forward half where we created separation or 1v1’s & couldn’t even get a shot away was extremely frustating.
