Coach Justin Longmuir Pt 2

This article has been written once a month throughout the season for each of the last 3 years.

And can people stop saying “he needs to adjust x and y”? It’s very very clear at this stage, this shit ain’t changing.

Every now and then our opponent slacks off and our handball happy plan pays off with some nice ball movement and someone will claim JL has “released the handbrake”, until we play a high pressure opponent and we go back to looking slow and shit again.

So please, stop saying he just needs to change this or that. He’s not going to. This is it.
I honestly think he doesn’t know what’s wrong or how to change it.

I usually always get excited on Thursday, team selection day. 2 games down I’m already ho hum who cares.
I think I’m having flashbacks & getting mentally prepared for the Eagles to come out and throw the kitchen sink at pressure & tackle around stoppage and be about 6 goals up at quarter time.
I’m not sure I can even watch.

The more I listen to him in the media, the more I reckon he’s the best fit. He just comes across really intelligent, really calm and a real tactician. I hope the fact he’s former WCE doesn’t stop him.
Yes, his tactical side is what has impressed me and along with a calm demeanor. The fact that he's already based in Perth is a no-brainer..
I wish and hope for JL to succeed however the lack of ingenuity on gameday is a real cause for concern.

Last two years I've wished for JLo to succeed - I've now reached an acceptance he isn't up to it and I'm now in the "sooner he's sacked the better" camp.

The big thumbs down is that bollocks well cop if we ‘had to win one with an eagle at the helm’. The humanity.

I reckon if Freo appoint the bloke who took a Premiership team to historically bad I'd jump off.

There's been a lot of pretty shit call's over the years, but that would be it for me. It would just send a message we're happy to take anyone and be happy with it.

That would be your line? Not the 25 ish years of shit?

Luke is one of my favourite players and he has been a fantastic servant of the club. People seem to forget the games where his intercept marking has saved us time and again. However...

This season he, along with almost the entire team has looked well below his best.

Is it their preparation? Maybe they have been smashed in the preseason and need to be "freshened up".

Is it the game plan? I have a suspicion the game plan is way to complex and relies on every single component working well at all times - a holistic plan. This is not achievable, and it appears when the plan is not working the players get disheartened.

Have they lost faith in the coach and his plan? I am getting a sinking feeling that this is the case, and you could hardly blame them at this point. Contrast the body language of our guys with some (most) of the other teams and we look like we are not having any fun out there.

This weekend will answer a lot of questions I think. If we don't win and win handsomely, showing some kind of coherent game style I think this season and Justin are pretty much a write off.
Yeah, it's two games in and people are smashing keys like he's Dan Parker.

I can put up with shit if we're at least trying not to be.

Installing a premiership coach is trying to be shit? I am not a huge Simpson fan, the doco during COVID didn't inspire confidence but having his hire as the last straw after all the club has done is actually hilarious.

2018 mate. I take it you've slept though the last 5 years so I'll fill you in - Eagles aren't exactly flying. You might want to check out some ladders?

West Coast wins since 2021 - 10
Fremantle wins last year - 10.5

You want to flip that? My goodness - there's people death-riding the club and then there's you.

I haven't even said I would want Simpson as the coach, just that it's hilarious to me that someone like yourself would use THAT as the last straw after all the club has done in the past.

I'm in the same boat and there's a half decent chance of this happening tbh. West Coast aren't great but it's not like we're playing with any fluidity or confidence.

Ahhhh. Gotcha. Sorry.

Yes, I agree there have been plenty of straws.

West Coast might not be great but they showed they can bring the heat against Brisbane. That’s all it takes to roll us these days. Brisbane were good enough to reel them in but we’re not in Brisbane’s class.

This is the bit that gets me.

All clubs have the blueprint of how to play against us...bring pressure and we'll wilt. Hell, even Simpson was going on about it in the commentary box the other day.

We are officially the easiest team to play against and the easiest team to coach against and clubs know that if they just hang in there there's a good chance they'll take the four points.

Like you said E Shed, it makes it a bit harder to get pumped for the next game because you have a fair idea what's going to happen.

A bit like trying to get excited going to the cinema to see a movie you saw last week.
