Surely N.Goodwin (Avenal) deserves a spot in the starting 18?? he has had a steller year as a forward flank/mid-fielder again an looks to be on the way to back to back bnf's at the Swannies??

1st time poster long time reader. Let's have a crack at team of the years?? Forgive me if I'm off the mark.
B: Mcdonald (gig) Hazlewood (und) Gibbs (Stan)
Hb: Shiner (long) Godsmark (und) Warren (lanc)
c: Oldfield (tally) Snelson (gig) Busch (lanc)
hf: Milne (murch) Casey (lanc) Martin (Stan)
f: Rattray (nag) Laporta (und) Downey (und)
r: Breen (und) Brunt (lanc) Gray (Stan)
bench: Harris (gig) ross (vtown) Morris (nag) Goodwin (ave)

others want to give it a go?

Not a bad side. As previously mentioned S vourgaslis would nearly have to find a spot possibly in place of oldfield. Forward Line you couldnt possibly put rattray in after his injury interrupted season and casey is no where near as much a footballer as the others mentioned. Good players around him helps his cause;)

Rattray is still 3rd leading goal kicker despite missing games, who would you put in front of him? Perhaps Milne in the pocket, Goodwin to the flank and Vourgaslis to the bench?
Casey has a great set of mits and has been the best CHF for this season, he may have good service and support around him but he still needs to grab the ball and kick it through the big sticks.

100 goals has actually been achieved 3 times previously. By Peter Milne (Murch). Francis Caldow (Merr) and Beau Pout (Rush) both kicked a ton in 2002

Add Jackson Hutton to that list, he kicked a ton in 2005 in the 3rds, including one bag of 30.

Brenton Campbell kicked 100 goals also in 2007. Great effort by anyone to kick 100 goals.

Didn't Daniel Cleary go close in 1994 when playing 3rds with Avenel, mighta even got the ton also?

Anyone care to have a crack at tipping the league medallist for 2010 and the grand finalists and eventual premiership team?

My top 5 for the medal:

Breen (Und) Warren (Lanc) Paulke (Nag) Godsmark (Und) Brunt (Lanc)

Think Snelson will be right up there too but not sure if Gig won enough games. Having said that though, when Shiels won it Nag didn't win many and P.Horsburgh came 3rd a couple of years ago when we only 4 games.

Premiers: On paper you couldn't look past Undera, but obviously i'll be backing VT.

Medal: Snelson (gig), Brunt (lanc), Breen (und), Gray (Stan)

Grand finalist: Lancaster vs Undera

Premier: Lancaster

my mind will change if Undera come out and beat Nagambie well.

What's everyones thoughts on the last round? Anyone give Naggers a chance at Undera? Was one sided earlier in the year.

And are VT and Stanhope going to rest bodies this weekend in preparation for do or die final in a few weeks?

We still have a slight chance of snatching 3rd if Undera beat Nagambie convincingly and we do the same against Tally, so couldn't see us resting anyone. Will more than likely be a elimination v VT @ Nagambie for us though.

Most of the VT players have been resting all year:)

Medal: Snelson although not in the greatest side would still be spotted by umpired as he is everywhere! Others such as Breen, brunt, gray, la porta, james martin also strung together a few BOG's in the middle of the year, could all also go close

The 4 standout players i think that are the main chances for the league medal would be:
LaPorta (undera), Snelson (girgarre), Brunt (lancaster) and Godsmark (undera)...those players all played really well against avenel this yr.
I think LaPorta would be a most deserving winner even though it usually is alot harder for key forwards to win league medals but im gonna tip him to win it!

I reckon it will be an undera v nagambie gf again with undera probably coming out on top for back to back flags. They were the best side ive seen this year, even though i only got to see them just the once.

Best CHF in the comp would have to be cilmartin from the gum obviously bias but great set of hands, imagine him in a good team.

Totally agree:thumbsu:
If he kicked a few more goals 25+ this year Iwould have him sitting at CHF as he moves well and has great hands along with being able to kick. Although it is hard ti kick goals being in a near bottom team

No disrespect to Kilmartin, but would definitely disagree with the statement that he is the best CHF in the comp. And regardless of whether he's in a winning team or not... He's always been a solid contributor to the Gum and always one of their better players, but IMO not one of the stand out CHF's in the comp..... Just my opinion

Kilmartin is a solid footballer, not the best CHF in the league.
In my opinion Kilmartin (Merrigum) and Arandt (Avenel) would both be better CHF's than Casey. From what I've seen of all three, the first two are better players, Casey is lucky to be blessed with much better supply, which is why he has kicked 60 goals (not to say he's not a valuable player to Lancaster). When I saw him play this year he never really looked like having an influence on the game, as he kicked his goals from cheap free kicks. Looking at results he hasn't really turned that many games on the back of his own boot either to be the best CHF in the league.

So for mine I would have either of those two in as they have both been impressive as forwards, and they have had to work hard in mediocre sides.

:thumbsu:Agreed Kings love to see this guy with some quality delivery, very underated (certainly compared to Casey!) Performs consistently, best hands in league, especially for a guy that's not a huge brusing CHF. Let's not forget lower sides have gun players too. Often we get carried away with judging champion teams as having all the best players (ie. Cameron Mooney getting All Australian!!) :thumbsu:

Rushworth had their B&F count last night, seniors award was won by 17yr old Ben Kealy.. Top effort by the young bloke! Easily the youngest to win the award at Rushy and a very deserving winner.

By all reports Rushy finished the year off ok, a pretty decent performance against a quality VT outfit.. The result of the Nagambie v Undera match sets up a fantastic finals series that's probably too close to call.. Will be interesting to see if having 2wks off will hurt Lancy's chances, or not..

Yeah they played pretty well. Clearly missed Johnson though. Jungle got plenty of it and a half backer (solid short bloke with short curly hair) got his fair share too and Big Drew Clarke provided plenty of run out of the backline. Always amazes me why Drew doesn't get thrown up forward more often, he'd be a nightmare to stop in a marking contest with his height and leap....
Rushy probably just lacking a few at the tail end of the team I think.

Nagambie v Undera will now repeat same place, same time a week on... Should be a big crowd there watching. Hope it's another cracker of a match.
Did anyone get injured on Sat from these 2?

Would be Adam Harrop, had a good finish to the year with his move into the backline.

Jungle would need a GPS to find the backline:rolleyes:, might have been Adam Harrop or Robbie (Matt Stokes) Pain.

Yeah I know who Jungle is. I meant it as Jungle played well for Rushy, so did Drew Clarke and so did 'a short solid sized black flanker with short curly hair' not sure of his name.....

We (Nagambie) had one injury out of the game which unfortunately will keep one of our mids on the sidelines this week.
Not too sure how Undera faired but one of their smaller backmen (think it was number 2) who was doing a job on Morris got injured in the 3rd quarter and didn't take any further part in the match. It appeared to be a leg injury of some sort not to sure if it was soft tissue or a knee/ankle? I suspect he may miss this week but someone from the Undera camp may be ble to clarify.

For those interested in B&F results, Anthony Haysom took out the Seniors award at Nagambie followed by Scott Paulke, and Josh Sanderson rounded out the top three.

Well done to Troy Snelson on winning the league BnF. Well deserved.
Along with Mick Corboy in the 2's and James Milne in the 3rds. Was an interesting vote count with some polling more and some polling less then what people expected.
