Hey
Did hear a quiet Rumuor that a couple of Rushworth players are on the outer after Shepp News article???

Hey deano, Shaun Damon has signed with mooroopna, haven't spoken to him about it but given the timing I'd say it could be connected to the quote. I'm obviously not that involved with the club this year but the backlash from that particular article has been surprising, in a bad way.

Looks like they've got a pretty good team in and that Stanhope have picked up a couple, so it should be a cracking game, hope the tigers get up & find some form to give themselves a chance at top 3.

Well I haven't graced my precence in this forum for a while, so I thought I would give some tips for the round to come.

Avenel should easily beat Ardmona at home by well over 15 goals in what will likely be a dreary, wind swepped day for the Bushcats.

Girgarre will lose at home to an Undera side looking to secure a Top 3 spot.

Lancaster hosting Nagambie should be a very good game, but I would have to favour the Lakers because I think they are slight favourites for the Premiership as it stands now, ahead of Violet Town & Lancaster.

Longwood should provide a better contest for thier hosts (Murchison) at the 'Legs Stadium then when Murch played Ardmona, but my team are planning for the game the week after against Stanhope where it will see Murch hang on to the slimmest of finals chances, or have them totally extinquished for 2012.

Stanhope should be a tough test for Rushworth at home, and I'm not predicting a Stanhope win (Rushy should prevail by 15 points at the most), it wouldn't surprize me either.

And Violet Town are hosting Tally on Sunday, after the belting Tally gave Lanky last week, you could believe that they are a good chance to continue thier giant killing spree against the 'Towners, by knocking off another premiership contender, but Tally have this habit of having great wins closely followed by bad performances. So I would have to think that Tally should be beaten, but they should give the hosts a very good challenge.

Interesting as Damon wasn't one of the players that the "quote" would have been referring to as he wasn't a new player. When it comes to journalism, facts don't always make for good stories.

yeah, wicks was apparently talking about the pace of the new players, compared to those we lost in jungle, tav and ben kealy, not ability. but if you read the article its not quite how it comes across

Big congrats to Matty Evans on playing 300 senior KDFL games today. The mainland did the right thing with a good win Over the tigers.

Shouldn't be ignored how big a feat it is to play that many senior games.

Well like player around the league and well deserved milestone.

Congrats young mate

Which article was that? The one that says the recruits aren't as good as the players they lost? Not something I'd like to read in the paper, especially when its the coach saying it!

Truth obviously hurts!
Half way through the season and things haven't quite gone the way of early predictions. Nagambie have recruited very well and at this stage look to be the main threat to VT. Undera seem to be travelling along nicely just slipping under the radar a touch as most tipped them to finish 4-7th. Lancaster seem to have hit a couple of potholes just recently but with so much experience and quality should see them bounce back in the second half of the year and be real contenders come september.

Rushworth are probably the biggest dissapointment so far, in saying that they didn't get going until around this time last year and I think will take the last finals spot. Tallygaroopna are now up and going after flogging Lancaster but they have a tendancy to drop games they probably shouldn't. Stanhope really took it up to Nagambie earlier in the year but couldn't sustain the pressure for 4 quarters, still a shot at finals but might just miss out.

Avenel are probably the only other team capable of making finals this year and all credit to them. They have come from a long way back last year to give a good contest against top 3 sides this year and could be real contenders if they can build on their current list for next year. Murchison promised so much at the start of the year but as we know things didn't got to plan in terms of recruiting, at least they can save some money for next year!.

Girgarre very much in the same boat as Avenel, lot's of kids running around for them and the draw against Lancy will give them confidence that they can match it with finals sides, keep the list together and there might be good things to come.

Merrigum are a lot better, still a hell of a long way to go for them but at least there is improvement. Probably need another 4-5 top line recruits to look at matching it with the big boys.

I can't see Longwood being competitive with the better sides for a long time, maybe if the comp dropped off significantly but that's not goin to happen.

As for Ardmona they look like heading the same way of Wunghu, how many 40 goal smashings can you take before your team just doesn't turn up.

Hey deeman.. Rushy have been disappointing, but surely not as much so as lanky..? They've drawn with gig and got smoked by tally by 100 points..!

Apart from last weeks game against Stanhope they've been reasonably competitive. 6 players back in this week for a massive game against the swans. If we get up and lanky go down to nagambie (which they wouldn't be favorites for), and we hold out spot at fourth and move a game and a half clear. Still plenty to like at tiger land.

Couple of big games this week, looking forward to checking the results..

And woody, no rumors champ, all fact, the ramifications from one ill thoughtout comment has been disappointing & damaging.

Geez you head off early JT! If you get lost on the way to Nagas and end up at the White Hart Hotel (.. The Black Lung!) later I'll shout you a drink to drown the sorrows!! If the fog doesn't lift you may end up at the Euroa v Cats game? Doing my best to travel to Nagambie today myself for a preview of a Grand Final game. Best to both sides and both keep it noice with the physical stuff .. Cheers John Carrot

After todays results I definitely agree Lancy very dissapointing, bit of drama at Ironbark stadium, anyone fill us in?

Did hear some news from the game from some Avenel people, If true we wish Drew, his family and all the people at Rushy all the best and hope for a speedy recovery. Sad day for everyone...
I just spoke to Tim Wicks. Drew has a broken Collar-bone but thankfully has been cleared of any spinal or brain damage. Good news for all concerned.
On behalf of the Avenel FNC I wish Drew all the best for a speedy recovery.

Great news that he hasn't suffered any spinal/brain damage. It's not often that you're happy to hear that someone has a broken collarbone, but considering what could have been I'm sure it is welcome news for everyone involved.

On the Nagambie/Violet Town game, can someone provide a match report for those of us who weren't able to watch the game?

Was a very tight contest in the first half, both teams going hard at the ball and going goal for goal at either end. Nagambie's Press was working well in the first quarter and it often felt like it was 3 onto 1 at a lot of contests with their constant pressure.
We lost Jay Peerson near the end of the first quarter for the game and Russ Lee early in the 2nd quarter, which brought us down to one on the bench for the remainder of the game.
2nd half we pulled away a bit kicking the ball long and managed to break their press as they started to tire from the later parts of the 3rd quarter onwards.

Huge contest for us at home this Saturday against Undera, who haven't lost since round 1. Should be a big day with us hosting a Past Player's Function with 250+ ex players returning for a solid day and night in their old stomping ground.

G’day
I’m getting a bit slow in my post sixty years, but I’ve finally found the AFL report from 2011 into their investigation into Victorian Country Footy.

All I can say is that it is a report of self-manifesting diatribe!! More money .. for AFL workers. Concerns about umpiring and volunteers now expecting big bucks. “WTF”. Check it out from page 16 onwards.

Not a gasp about how to use that brilliant points system to quell the gravitation of high dollar demanding players accumulating at the one club to buy a premiership .. all over Victoria.

My best mate died 3 years ago at 55, but was a passionate footballer and supporter of local footy.
He has passed that love onto his sons but the old mate’s son had to play in a senior game of district footy in the North East where the winner (Blues) beat the Tigers 56 f’n goals to one!

Now tell me how much relevance the above report has in Victorian Country Footy.. especially in that players move to the highest payer whose Club is willing to be complicit with the cashies under the counter.

That shite is now so out of hand it may destroy small community towns .. let alone footy Clubs!!

Meantime, the Longwood Redlegs got 4 points as we had the bye!!

Cheers
John Carrot

They had some good points in that report but I would be very weary about linking up with Vlad because for Country Football having him involved with it's like having a fox guard a hen house.

Anyway, it's good to hear that Drew Clarke hasn't sustained more serious injuries from Saturday (that means that both sides get 2 points, or do they get 4 each), and we hall hope for a full recovery.

It's 1/2 way through the year and a here's my take on the year so far.

Violet Town are a vey good chance to go Premiers & Champions (If they beat Undera, then they're a bigger chance), but a loss now wouldn't be a bad thing, because nothing sharpens focus like defeat, but I can't see it happening, Murchison were the closest but we got the benefit of playing them first.

Nagambie are still double chance material even after thier loss last week, but they still look ther most likely to knock the Towners off thier perch.

Undera are just going beautifully, and have just snuck in front of nearly everyone right now, they have the greater depth of all the contenders, and that will be very handy over the next month or so.

Tally have had some great wins and a bloke that can win games off his own boot (how come the scores from their game last week weren't in the paper or the website, because I wanted to know how many Arho kicked), but a bad habit of dropping games they shouldn't so they aren't certanties for 4-5th spot by any means.

Rushworth although are doing OK despite their losses from last year, but they could be the unlucky ones to miss out on finals.

Lancaster well injuries and some bad losses have had them in a dog fight for the finals, and they can't afford to lose any more bad games, otherwise thier season's done.

Avenel are going better than I expected, and even if they don't make the finals, I still think they will have a big bearing of the make up of the finals, because they play at home well, and have at least 1-2 high ranked scalps per season regardless of how they're going.

Stanhope have also had some injury problems, but they've got something brewing for 2013, so they won't be down for long.

Murchison's season is just a big what if ?, 3 close losses against Violet Town, Undera & Rushworth could have had the hoppers pushing for 3-4th spot, although they have turned the corner against Stanhope last week, playing Avenel away will be a case of staying in touch (with a great %), or planning for 2013 and putting our eggs in the 2nds & 3rds, and Avenel are due for a big win and I've got a feeling that it'll be against us.

Girgarre's progress can't really be measured until mid way through 2013, 2012 is a year of putting the dominoes in place and next year is the start of knocking them down one by one, but I think they can do it because the basics are there.

Merrigum's the same, they have started from a lower base than Gig but even though they've only won 1 game so far, they haven't copped as many floggings as last year, it's a slow process but one that the Dogs are starting to get the hang of.

Longwood are still about the same on field as they were last year, they seem to have a lot more new faces around the club, but to their credit, they have some good facilities but like most clubs they need a few more hands on deck.

Ardmona have really battled this season, 30-40 goal floggings, no Under 18's, bad facilities (even by Murch standards), and a lack of seniors would have most clubs on the canvas, but the Bushcats have more than 9 lives, and a plus is that they have all grades of Netball, so you've got to find positives even in the most unlikely of places.

Firstly .. where can an old bloke buy a MAD Magazine nowadays .. great profile shot!!

Good comment Joe .. and although you know I am weary, I’m with you ..wary!!

My main point is that not only the KDFL is split into the “haves and the have nots”; due to uncontrolled player payments, but the same thing is happening in the Ovens & King! Similarly, my second team of support, Euroa which my nephew plays for in the GVFL had 30 goals kicked against them by Moroopna last Satd’y.
I bumped into a mate at the fish and chip shop in Euroa and I said that the AFL/VCFL are trying to force district clubs to die and (for the money) move with local major leagues clubs. For example Longwood fold and Violet Town, into Euroa (.. VT to fold after 2012 after buying the flag .. if not it will be “Ghost Town”!!), then clubs like Avenel and Naga, Murch and Rushie fold into Seymour. College footy ..eh?

I was amazed at my Euroa "inner sanctum" mate's response when he said .. “You may find things may go the other way because of the money being paid to players”

A piece of flake and two potato cakes .. food for thought ..eh?

.. Keep the commentary coming WP! Cheers Joe Mamma

No disrespect to Longwood Carrot, If Longwood don't pay players at all then that may be the reason that your town is already a ghost town. The points system would be no good to you guys anyway as you would not go close to filling your quota anyway. Perhaps you would be better off putting your energy into improving the standard at Longwood rather than dragging the rest of the league back to your standard ( Benalla and district ) , Keep in mind that we were the last teams to enter the KDFNL so if you don't like it try forming the BDFL again and be compeditive there..

VT are a very polished outfit, we went with them for a half but couldn't go with them for 4 quarters. To be honest in the end they did it quite comfortably, with only 19 fit players. It's a scary proposition to think they still have Pat Horsburgh, Lamaro, Mitchell, and effectively Lee & Peerson to come back into the side that rolled us by 6 goals!

Yes violet town nearly look unbeatable!! I would love to see a violet town vs shepp east game right now as both sides sit atop and have quality players. Probably not possible for it to ever happen or have the gvl premiers play o and m premiers at the end of the year!! Imagine yarra (fev) vs United (looby, forys) Having it out. Be really good to watch;)
