Re: Kyabram District FL

Looking at our leagues (KDFL, PDFL, GVFL & MFL) I doubt you would be able to mention a year where it is all so open. Tough ask predicting who will be up there. Lots of footy to go and most teams will still be eyeing off a spot.

Re: Kyabram District FL

Gazza c u asked for scores on HDL site also here is how you get all country leagues
http://kyabramdfl.vcfl.com.au/
once you get to the site go to competitions on the lefthand side Main menu.
to go between leagues go to league/club links which is also on the menu at the bottom. A box will come up, choose at the same level and you can go to any league you want, all the set ups are the same.

www.countryfootyscores.com
is also a very easy site to check out all leagues in vic and nsw for ladders, fixtures and results of seniors and reserves

Re: Kyabram District FL

Any early tips for rookie of the year?...

Avenel, Nagambie and Rushworth would have to have a few in the mix after their under 18's form last year.
And i agree with Moon being up there from Undera after playing on him in a praccy match, i'd also throw Paul Enright from the towners into the mixer, he's had a promising start to his senior career...

Re: Kyabram District FL

Although we'll get a better idea in 5 weeks of where everyone's at, I reckon there's prob only 1 team capable of it, and that's Ardmona.. Think both these teams, at this stage, will play off again. Some have critised Stanhope as choking the last 2 years, I say they've been stiff in that Sidebottom and Trianidis both played one out of the bag in 05, and the lop-sidedness of the umps and an underdone Gray cost them last year.. And at least they can say that they've given themselves a chance to win the big one.. Will be hard to beat again in 07.

I'm with you Tav, i reckon Ardy just might be the real big dark horse of the comp, just sneaking under the radar a bit at the moment..
But Stanhope just seemed to have the ideal package at our level last year. A good mix of young and old and when you played them it felt like they had twice as many players out there because of there fitness and commitment to running in numbers to each contest and there smartness with peeling off opponents, etc.

Hey Bodz. Is that young Enright son of big Donnie?

Yes, Ardmona certainly perform when it counts. Have 'stolen' a few flags from more fancied opponents over the last decade!

How could you let the reigning premiers sneak under any radar???

Re: Kyabram District FL

How is denis grinton going for stanhope , the last game i seen him play was in last years grand final for mount plesant and he killed em had about 40 touches and won the bog medal

Re: Kyabram District FL

Just for kicks... how do you think this would work???

3rds & 4ths might be a problem though!

Shepp/Ky FL: Ardmona, Dookie United, Girgarre, Katandra, Lancaster, Merrigum, Murchison, Rushworth, Shepp East, Stanhope, Tally, Undera

Southern Riv FL: Berrigan, Billabong Crows, Blighty, Coleambally, Deni Rovers, Jerilderie, Mathoura, Rennie

Picola FL: Katamatite, Katunga, Picola United, Strathy, Tungamah, Waaia, Wunghnu, Yarroweyah

Strathbogie FL: Alexandra, Avenel, Bonnie Doon, Goorambat, Longwood, Nagambie, Swanpool, Tatong, Thornton-Eildon, Violet Town, Yea

I personally think all these clubs are capable of fielding under 17 & under 14 football teams, besides a few of the BDFL teams. Play GCJFL on Sundays and kids could double up, like a few Shepp kids already do. Kids in the PDFL start playing 4ths as young as 9 or 10. Surely teams could be filled.

Thats the best idea i've heard in a long time!!

well, speaking from an avenel perspective i would be against this. the competition in substantially weaker than the one we are in at the moment.

presently, with tahbilk, avenel and nagambie have an ideal feeder club for their two thirds sides, with the standard in the SDJFL being undoubtably higher than what it would be in the Strathbogie football league juniors (not to mention easier geographically).I also dont think its fair to expect 11 and 12 year olds to play two games a weekend.

Well i tend to disagree slighty with that, i think country footy has a real problem on their hands and its gonna get worse and that is clubs being able to field a 2nds side, i know the league has introduced having 16 players on the field to help shortages, but long term there has to be a better solution. On saturday im certain the 3rds match between Rushy and Merrigum only had 14 players out there each, so i think country footy has some way to go yet.

Whoa there iwantanotherflog!
Why do you keep bringing up changes to these leagues?
Do we need any changes, and if we do, maybe you could seek the advice of one or two Katandra stalwarts who helped in the destruction of the once strong Tungamah League.

Hey, i am ok with what is going on at the moment and leagues are functioning well. But as you stated the TFL break down was one of the key elements as to what has developed, even before that the Waranga Nth East FL. I am simply putting forward some scenarios. There needs to be some changes made over the next couple of years, because:

1. The BDFL is in dire straits.
2. The PDFL has 19 teams on its books for 2008.
3. Alexandra and Thornton-Eildon would no doubt love to be back playing against foes like VT and Yea.

I am not pushing the buttons at the VCFL, just generating a few thoughts through this "I should be doing some work... but would rather be talking footy" forum.

Yes, it would be great to reconstruct the once very strong Tungamah League... I have heard that it was a minor league above all others in its time. Even heard stories of TFL v GVFL interleague type stuff??

Two sides:
Lets not fix what is not broken, usually coming from the stronger and more central teams.

and

There must be a better way to do this, why do we travel 150km to play them when we don't play the team 10km down the road? Eg Tally & Katandra, Yea & Alexandra, Avenel & Longwood.

This is the only advantage of your proposition. having a more geographically friendly league. Good point but not good enough to warrant drastic changes.

Grand plan put in place
By Rob Harris

Shepparton News

Mooroopna will host the Kyabram District Football League Grand Final this year after the league's clubs overwhelmingly supported to break with tradition this week.
President Sev Cortese confirmed yesterday the league would stage its biggest event at a non-Kyabram District venue for the first time since 1960 at the request of its clubs.

Mooroopna's Main Oval won the rights to the game ahead of Tatura Park and Kyabram.

"The whole thing has created a lot of discussion, but I suppose the bottom line is that our clubs wanted this change," Cortese said.

"We investigated it on behalf of the clubs for a number of reasons and at the end of the day we're rapt to be taking our biggest day of the year to a venue like Mooroopna.

"Certainly the proposals from Tatura and Kyabram were impressive, but at the end it was Mooroopna which had the most support."

Cortese said the grand final would be played on Saturday, September 22 and would be the perfect way to showcase the match.

Clubs recommended the search for an alternative venue over concerns regarding spectator facilities, the control and sale of alcohol and the capacity to cater for a $20 000-plus gate.

"In think on the whole there were 22 points and Mooroopna has certainly met most, if not all of them," he said.

"We believe our venues are very good for a crowd up to a preliminary final, but after that it can become a bit of a concern."

Mooroopna Football Club president Greg Freer said, while the game would be plenty of work for the club, it was happy to play a role.

"It's pretty exciting for us and we think it's a positive step for the KDL," Freer said.

"The club has gone to a lot of effort with the proposal and it's a great chance to show off our facilities."

I like the KDFL and enjoy the atmosphere and culture its provided us in the past two years.
And nothing against Thorton-Eildon or Alexandra but i never really enjoyed the long slow drive up there to play in freezing cold weather

Re: Kyabram District FL

after watching the stanny boys a bit, young matt stokes from stanhope would have to be in the race for rookie of the year with 2 goals in his debut and 3 votes in his secong game
