Kel Moore, our best defender

Good question. Imagine if we could afford international rookies like Coll, Bris and Carl. We'd be laughing. (Or maybe at least grinning.)

forget marty clarke if we could afford international rookies we could have drafted 5 jim stynes by now with our rookie gold touch now!

Those bagging Kel's kicking for goal - he's only had two shots this year for two behinds. It's not like he's spraying them every week. Wait until he's zero from 30 in a couple of years time, then I'll stop defending his goalkicking.

hes a backman he wasnt playing forward obviously
you run 100m and then have a shot for goal under immense pressure to win the game for your team

get off his back people - i agree with you strawbs

Most important players who have made the biggest difference to the club this year from last year.

1. Simmons - yes, Patto was Ok, but this is the #1
2. Richo - main improvement is not playing in the forward line - he has become a good midfielder(!) and the forward line is developing.
3. Moore - excellent - big surprise
4. Deledio - 100% improvement - this guy is good.

dont think so

simmonds has been pretty poor in a few games and patto would be no1 ruck if he had the same game time as simmonds, patto when he is on the ground, we are a better team.

nathan brown has made a big difference, as has jordan mc run out of defence, yes, dont beieve al the crap that he is teh clanger king as he is no13 in the afl for effective disposals!

richo has been great but so has foley, deledio, tambling, sugar apart from a couple of games, moore thursty

as a whole we have been a better team because everyone or most are contributing

i think we are all forgetting that Kel was born with a disability that he has had to live with up until recently

the scourge of the dreaded RED HAIR!!!:D

what a champ fighting against odds like that:thumbsu:

ah the scourge of gingervitis a real credit to him to get through this.

he has doubled his output from previouse years in nearly all areas

I mentioned to a fellow tiger fan a few weeks back that i rated this fella better than thursty and he fell off his chair. Has alot of tricks in the bag does Kel, is great in contested situation and bloody creative in heavy traffic, picking out good options with the footy. In my book he's now way ahead of thursty in value to the side. Full marks for the improvement he has shown...it started in VFL final series and was launched with that hanger in the nAB cup game v the saints...Keep it up son, big asignement this week on Ryan O'keefe:thumbsu:
I wouldn't pencil Moore in as better than Thursty just yet. Moore has improved a lot and is playing better than Thursty at the moment. But Moore is in career best form and Thursty is probably in the worst form of his short career, but moore still only shades him slightly. Towards the end of last season Thursty started running off his man and setting up play. Once he gets back into a bit of form and starts doing those things again, i think he'll show he's our number one defender (unless Rance is one out of the box).

to be honest their different players, thursty is a fair bit more dfensive than Kel Moore, less inclined to run off and attack and would rarely take a contested mark, however is a very good spoiler. The blend of both is important ..I'd like to see thursty add a little advanture to his game

Thursty is more of a Stopper... More is moore attacking.... I'd actually like to see moore play forward for a few weeks once Mcguane is back.

Thurtsy, Mcgaune and Shuulz down back... and Moore up forward?

i think moore and mcguane are very similar...i reckon both could go forward as a pinch hitting forward....thursty on the other hand is a backman and thats it...which is fine cos he dominates at it :thumbsu:

Agree on Thursty becoming more adventurous and I think he was starting to do a bit of that late last year, but has been down a bit on form and confidence the last few weeks. Probably to be expected because he has hardly played a poor game since he started. Its easy to forget he is still learning the caper because he has looked like a pro from day one.

Yeah Kel Moore has really stepped up and taken his chance to grab a spot in the side definatly the most improved tiger this year , thursfield perhaps needs to become a little more attacking but if he holds blokes goal less well thats all you can ask , hence introducing mcmahon to use the ball from the backline put raines back in for some extra run and the backline begins to take shape , would still like to see luke mcguane in the side as think he has been ok , Will Jay Schulz still be a tiger after this season ? perhaps using Polak from the goal square with Richo up the ground is the go.

BoJangles is spot-on, Kel and Thursty play different roles. Thursty is a good old-fashioned full-back and does it extremely well. Lloyd got away from him a couple of times on Saturday night but he made a couple of beautiful spoils late in the 3rd/early in the last that stopped the Bombers' run on. I also agree I wouldn't mind seeing him take a few more risks - he will never be Matty Scarlett but his disposals and decision making are good so he could run off a bit more.
In recent years more clubs have developed athletic, tall lead-up half-forward types like Robert Murphy at the Bulldogs, and Kel Moore is the prototype defender for this kind of player - good leap, great closing speed and can hurt them going the other way.
I've been on his bandwagon for a while - check it out at

i always rated him. has plenty of tricks as bojangles said and adds a new dimension to our backline. he was played forward in a few games early in his career iirc and did ok, but i like him up back.

More though is not only attacking, but he's just great defender! Really good in the 1 on 1 situations! I believe we should take McGuane forward and leave Moore, Thursty, Schultz (very impressed with him down there this year) down back.

Moore provides lots of run off Half back and is a very attacking player.... have you watched any games this season?
