Re: KERR must stay, to get KERR,MASTEN, RICH, EBERT ALL TOGETHER

Even though I'm a huge Ebert fan, am I right in saying his fitness is poor or below average? Looks pretty tired sometimes and I wont forget Robert Walls' comment about Ebert.

What did Walls say?

Last year you were calling Judd an unloyal dog for wanting to leave.

Now most of you are ready to shove your next champion into a trade and don't see a problem with it?

So which is it?

Anyone who leaves West Coast is a dog, or they are free to leave if they want to and you're happy?

You need Kerr to stay, don't let him go.

If you do, you won't get near his true value.

Agree totally. Almost every senior player except Cox is in the firing line to be traded, just because they're not as good this year as they have been, never mind rewarding them for loyalty and past performances, let's get rid of them anyways.

Probably the most frustrating thing for me as a supporter, but it happens all the time.

How quick is Kerr btw, and what's his kicking penetration like?

Pace is good, but it's more his ability to get a hard ball and flick off a creative hand pass or shrug a tackle.

Kicking penetration not the best...shots on goal the last couple of seasons have been a little down too. Needs more support in the middle.

Still a top 5-10 midfielder. People thinking of trading him might be a bit confused. I definitely agree with the OP... Kerr, Priddis, Masten, Ebert and a ready made Rich looks to be the making of a good midfield. Won't be Cousins, Judd, Kerr but we should be able to make up for it up forward next year.

"Brad Ebert is way too unfit to play in the AFL by anyones standards. But look that will get better and there is no better way to learn than to play against the best team in the competiton." - Robert Walls

Kerr has in some games tried to bust other players as well - resulting in him being unable to bust anything for way too much of the season.

That's why people are pissed off with him.
An understandable reaction. However his "brain explosions" have been far less than those of Barry Hall for example, and I don't see any Swans fans wanting to trade Hall !

Kerr's been suspended for only two less weeks this year than Hall (not counting Hall's internal club suspension) - and more weeks over the last two years.

Get off your high horse. Kerr has missed 11 games in 155.

You'd be better directing your self righteousness at those who have played 22 ineffective games this season, or who have been dropped because they cant make the best 22 in the worst team of our clubs history.

11 in 155 hey. But eight since the start of last year, and six this year, when he's really desperately been needed on the field. When the going's got tough, Kerr's gone missing.

As for those who've played 22 ineffective games this year (notwithstanding that it's only round 16), I wouldn't put Kerr's on-field performances down as overly effective most weeks. He's been as bad a lot of the time as any of the other senior players - and compounded that with six weeks on the sidelines.

I reckon there'd be seven senior players who've contributed considerably more - Cox, Glass, Jones, Lynch, Embley, Priddis and A.Selwood and I'd reckon we've got more out of LeCras and Wilkes as well. This for a player who's as highly rated as Kerr in a team that's in poor form? Maybe being the tenth best player on the list? I'd rate his contribution there with McKinley, Hansen and Kennedy - and probably even Staker and Nicoski - all had good patches, but all gone missing for long periods.

Kerr was asked to stand up this year. I reckon he's failed that test - and has a long way to go to prove that he's not a great player in a great team, but an ordinary (and stupid) player in an ordinary team.

Fool. Kerr was in our top three players in 2007, and most of 06, 05 and 04. That's when we needed him the most.

This year opposition teams know he's our only offensive threat (apologies to Cox) and have game plans structured around him. They rotate taggers off him.. and so usless have our other midfielders been the opposition are now able to move off their men to block/scrag and otherwise double team Kerr - instead of the other way around. Must be an exersise in utter frustration.

Anyway when you threw up Nicoski I knew you'd lost it.

Re: KERR must stay, to get KERR,MASTEN, RICH, EBERT ALL TOGETHER

Aww give it a rest ! We should leave the bad puns to the supporters of lesser clubs. You saw what I wrote but you knew what I meant !:p

Heh, sorry. It's like looking at one of those two-way images; once you see the hidden one it hard to see the original:D

I think our forward line is a few years away. We still lack a genuine full forward (though Notte is coming along OK - but is still years away). Our CHF (Kennedy) needs work. We lack some decent small forwards too.

In 2-3 years though, then it will all be on!

Re: KERR must stay, to get KERR,MASTEN, RICH, EBERT ALL TOGETHER

He does, we forget too that he is very underrage and could have been playing in this years U18 Champs. I wonder if he would have been a top 10 draft pick this year.

ur kidding right???? Atm I don't rate him at all. He frustrates the hell out of me. Barely gets any possesions around the ground. Seems to be struggling to make a impact in the team or in a game. Turns the ball over when he manages to get a kick. You should check his clanger count. Over-rated player I reckon. If he was good he would've been top-10 for sure. 12 other clubs saw this and we didn't.

Even though this is his first year, he has to improve.

I see Houlihan and Mcnamara as the future of the eagles midfield. Mcnamara played well against Brisbane and Houlihan seems to be improving as the season progresses.

You can't be serious... This is what I hate about some members here, too critical of first year players. Ebert is barely rated at all and to be over rated in his first year, playing against fully grown men is harsh.

This year is when he's been needed the most. From 2003-2007 we had at least one of Cousins and Judas playing the lead midfielder role, protecting Kerr from being the main tagged player. This year, when he's needed to stand up and take the tag, he's failed - and when he's tagged out of the game (as contrasted to being suspended out of the game), he's done little to prevent pressure on his team mates - unlike in the past where he's been happy to chase and tackle, this year he's not putting in there either.

This year is where he had to stand up, and he has failed to do so. I hope it's just an adjustment period to coping with the additional pressure, but so far, his ability to cope hasn't exactly shone out. He's barely contributed compared to a lot of other senior Eagles this year; I certainly don't think rating him about 10th in terms of contribution this year is too far off the truth.

You can stick your head in the sand about Kerr's contribution this year if you want though. He's played about two good games, which puts him there with Staker and, yes, Nicoski.

I still don't see any Swans fans demanding that Hall be traded !

I think you'll find people are merely more receptive to the idea of Kerr being traded, that's all. We're seeing this year why Kerr is not in the leadership group - as a part of a midfield, he's great, as the leader of it, he's not.

I'd prefer to keep Kerr, as I think once Masten/Ebert etc start reaching their potential, Kerr will be able to return to his position as a quality midfielder, but not in the meantime.

Rubbish. His form has been very solid, despite the extra attention and lack of support. Perhaps its just that your expectations of him are all screwed up.

His average kicks (12), handballs(11), average possessions(23), tackles (2.6), goals(0.6) stack up against previous years.

If you're going to go on stats, then he's down on every statistic this year compared to last year or 2006. Tackles for instance, his 2.4 per game this year is considerably lower than his 3.5 last year and 3.2 in 2006. Given the opposition have the ball a lot more of the time now, you'd expect the reverse.

The only stat he's well up on this year is number of weeks missed through brain explosions. His form has been ordinary at best - by the standards he's set in the past. Sure, if Houlihan or Ebert or Masten were pulling out his stats, I'd be overjoyed, but they're not fully developed players.

His stats are within a a possession or two of his breakout 05, and 06 seasons...unsupported.

Yet you name bloody Nikoski's year as better than his.. and half the rest of the club. Ridiculous.

That's why I said "if you're going to go on stats", which we all know are bollocks anyway.

I'm not going on stats. I'm going on Kerr going AWOL from the game in way too many games this year. I'm going on Kerr not chasing and blocking for his team mates when he's being tagged. I'm going on him missing more than a quarter of the season through suspension.

Yes, half the team have contributed more than him this year. Don't delude yourself that Kerr's having a good season. He's had good matches - a couple very good - but on the whole his contribution hasn't been particularly outstanding.

TBH the premise of this thread is fine - that Kerr should stay so he can be part of the midfield once our other players get some experience under their belt. But he's not the leader in the rebuild we might have hoped - compared to Cousins in 2001, he's not even holding a candle to that leadership.
