Thats 8 wins in a row now for the Knights after they bet Murray by 5 goals. Very Impressive everywhere over the ground. Did anyone go to the game and it will eb interesting to see cause i think they could go all the way.

I think in my best i would have put.....Carnell,Jackson, Anderson, Lynch, Corr and i also think young Bretty Meredith played a fair game

Anyone else want to add adn their thoughts?

Was out there today, really enjoyed this game. Will post a bit more specific stuff about certain players later tonight.

Fairly even effort from a lot of players, but for the Knights Nick Carnell was sensational. Corr and Davies worked hard through the midfield area, Riddle down back, Ryan Jackson (his last qtr smother in the middle was team lifting), Nick Lynch and Robertson until he was taken off really was vital in the first half all solid contributors. Probably forgot others but will post more later. It's tough because even a bloke like Perry backed himself and took two strong marks in defence during the last qtr and there were moments where everyone in some way did something for the side.

Agree with the above.

Also impressed with Meese in the ruck and floating around. Pretty mobile and gets into position well in defence - good mark.

Murray's defenders were their better players in my opinon. So much pressure causing Northern to be inaccurate at goal.
Drum and Looby in particular stood out - wouldn't mind seeing Looby playing up the ground more and really make use of his great kicking.
Noticed Drum took the last few kickouts and couldn't see Looby - was he off?

Should be good game next weekend.

knights vs murray

great game all day, but knights had a forward structure and murray didn't.
ryan jackson was terriffic and so was nick carnell, ryan anderson, and cathal corr in the midfield.josh riddle the rock in the backline.paul cuurie(the man)and paul colbert played well at both ends of the ground.ben mckinley was well held in the first quartor before class prevailed and then it soon turned into the mckinley show,u/18's vic country most valueble player apliate carlile was spanked and moved off mckinley.marcus drum was murrays best player and will go top ten.tim loobey was recieving wide at his best.murray out and knights advanced into the semi's were they might give the north ballarat a big surprise!!!!!!!!

Just the Knights for now (with the mean stuff taken out ;) )

Jackson: Captain, and he lifted when the side needed it most with a terrific smother off a Murray boot in the middle of the ground during the last quarter, resulting in the ball going forward and the Knights kicking a goal to give them a 22 point lead. Played most of the second half with a heavy bandage across his nose after coming off under the blood rule. Spent a fair bit of time in the centre, otherwise rested across half forward. Made a blue late in the game trying to do too much and was caught holding the ball. But aside from that led from the front all day, was great.

Carnell: Was really impressed today, thought he did his job through the midfield over four quarters. Had some exceptional centre clearances where he read it off hands, got it and bolted away (three times in the first half). Kicked two goals for the day, both after half time. Marked inside 50 – can mark overhead, nice lead at angle to the pocket for the last qtr goal from a set shot. Quick, runs and carries, can mark, penetrating kick.

Anderson: Played on the wing, uses his pace, arches the back, one of the quickest players in the competition. Did his fair share today.

Davies: Certainly a key player today, with his pace coupled with tireless running all day. His highlight came in the third quarter in the centre where he got the footy, took a bounce, ran to 50, handballed off to McKinley who goaled. A bullet goal at its best.

Meese: Continues to impress me. Solidly built young bloke, not even 17 yrs old yet. Rucked for much of the day, works hard around the ground, pulled in a two strong marks in particular, and isn’t worried about getting on his hands and knees and scrapping for the footy either. Will be keen to see how he develops over the next 12 months. Promising.

Lynch: Has been performing well up forward, gets it out on the lead mainly, but has been overshadowed a touch by McKinley in recent weeks. Kicked two for the day, but I still find his set shot kicking a little unreliable and he should have kicked a couple more.

Colbert: Had the first half in defence playing on Adam Prior and held him well, then went forward after half time and kicked a goal and had an impact up there. His marking is his key strength and sets him apart from other players – up forward later in the game he pulled in a hanger in a pack at the top of the goal square and goaled to give the Knights a 22 point lead. One dud kick out on the full when lining up for goal in the third qtr though

Connelly: Came off on a stretcher in the last qtr, and was in a fair bit of distress at the start throwing his mouthguard away and holding his hands over his face as the trainers fussed over his knee. Hopefully the bloke is alright, as his first half was particularly impressive.

Corr: Worthy of being named best on ground, kicked a set shot goal in the first qtr as the result of a strong mark inside 50. He proved later in the day that mark was no fluke with another decent grab overhead. He gets in and under and has a real crack, can kick fairly long, and showed a bit of pace out of the centre (just like a few of his teammates) but ran too far with the footy.

McKinley: Still kicked three but I don’t think his kicking boot was on today as he missed a few other gettable chances. First qtr – goal set shot 50, after a mark on the lead. Would have missed three at least.

Coff: Kicked the one goal today – from a set shot 35m out about 10m in from the boundary after a marking in a contested situation. Missed a set shot at the later stages of the game.

Perry: Bottom aged defender who took two terrific marks across half back late in the game as Murray had one last chance to win. Playing on the medium Murray forwards, guys like Baker, Chapman and Wilde.

Riddle: Solid defensive game. Terrific mark 15m out from defensive goals in the third qtr, and another big jump and mark on half forward in the latter part of the last term. A long set shot kick went 50m but just missed scoring. Puts his head over the ball, pick up and give to protect was good to see. Still has another year of TAC, shows promising signs.

Currie: Started centre half forward and Marcus Drum played on him, doesn’t mind picking it up, wheeling around and having a shot at the goals. That is how he got his goal in the second term. Direct swap with Colbert after half time and Currie went back to defence and took Adam Prior. Did his job there as well.

Meredith: Seems like they have high aspirations for this 16 year old, started on a half back flank, had some time on a half forward flank as well before getting up to a wing. Kicked one goal – a soccer off ground from a foot out. Had no other option in the end as he fumbled it two or three times trying to get it up off the ground. Gave the Knights a 10point lead. Took a nice mark late in the game on the Knights forward 50 as the Bushies looked to clear it, use of body good in the contest.

You heard right...you have spent all year trying to get me to jump on the Bronik Davies bandwagon and I'm on now.
I have been on Bronik's bangwagon all year, has impressed me with his metal toughness and work ethic. Heard many impressive things about this kid, for instance on multiple occasions pushing himself so hard during 1km and 3.2km time trials that he has ended it with throwing up. Just inspirational stuff that really shows others his character. How did he poll in the morish?

Also, if you follow the tac you would have see the knights domination of late. If there is any bandwagon to jump on its the Knights. I believe they will progress to play the stingrays after knocking off North Ballarat this coming w.e. Last time they played the rebles up at stawell they were leading for most of the game with a slight lapse in the last 5 to 10 mins of the game to be beaten by 2 goals. This effort was without the likes of Carnell, McKinley, Jackson, Anderson and many other promising players. The character of the Knights began from here on, as they have not been beaten since that particular clash against the Rebels. Like i said get on the NORTHERN KNIGHTS, suggesting there will be a real upset this w.e.

I was on before today's game mate don't worry about that, and I was rapt with the result. Reckon I have been at 8 of their last 9 matches now...exciting team who can go all the way I agree with ya.

I know a few kids from Power who get to the throwing up stage during training, I think you will find that it's not just that one kid that this happens to! A lot of kids dedicate their entire lives to this competition in the hope they will get drafted. I know they don't go out with friends on weekends, they watch their diet's, the list goes on... but for kids at the 16, 17 and 18 years of age, I think they are extremly disciplined to be so called "missing out" on normal teenage things for the slight chance of making a career out of football. At this level, they should all be acknowledged for the effort they are putting in.

Does anyone know why Cathal Corr did not make the draft camp or screenings
clearly this must be an oversight another best on ground performance
No idea why he missed an invite. Might get a late invite if he keep the good form going for the next few weeks.

Seeing the Knights players all watching the Saturday games together made me think they thought they'd get through a few weeks of finals, and were seeing how the other sides play and how finals footy is played. And Ben McKinley wearing Essendon tracksuit pants with all their logos and stuff on em, geez was he tryin to give someone a hint or something?

A few weeks back on BIGFOOTY someone said Cathal Corr is Irish, if he is late starter to Australian Rules I think he should be more closely considered. And someone said the Swans have spoken to him.

Does anyone know the specifics of Cathal's background? In a google search all I can find is a Cathal Corr playing gaelic football at under 14 level in Ireland a few years back.

footyman why would you find his shet shots unrelliable. Afterall he showed his skills to all and sundry when he missed from 10m out straight in front from a set shot and then backed it up a couple minutes later from 30m out straight in front. It was justice after all he took a dive to get the free kick.

Yes he came over from Ireland with his family initially they went to WA and then moved to Melbourne. He first palyed footy with macleod under 11 and was palying soccer as well. He then stopped playing footy to play soccer the next season and only came back to play the last few games under 12.

His determination is second to none and just as the burning desire to make it. There may be more skilled players there but definitely will not be beaten in determination stakes. Reminds me a litttle Daniel cross but a better mark
My information is that no one has spoken to him yet but the western bulldogs are keeping a close watch on him.

He injured his hip a couple weeks o/k and was rested for the last game to prepare for the finals.

Thanks INSIGHT, in the reality of managing AFL lists Cathal may be overlooked, but his attack is really like a dog with a stick, can't completely overlook blokes like that. Hopefully he'll perform well in the coming weeks and earn himself a rookie spot. If not, all Northern knights boys are welcome at the Northern Bullants. ;)

Looby cramped up I think. Certainly saw him limping about and stretching towards the end.

In the end Murray just didn't have enough in the midfield. All their best players were in defence. They'd go sideways, backwards and short in the backline and then once they got to the middle just bomb it long and hope that one of the two big forwards could take a contested grab.

I thought Davies was clearly BOG in the second half.

Why do you ask annoying questions? You answered it yourself above, he missed an easy one and then he kicked one...hooray, thats right.

He's kicked 41.27 for the year which is good but he can be prone to missing fairly easy set shots. Simple comment.

sorry footyman, I didn't actually mean for you to answer the question. Just obviously a poor attempt at sarcasm.

His kicking has improved but he has a hook-foot kicking action. He is one of those players who seems to have to 'allow' for the hook. Makes his field kicking really hit and miss.
