If the 8 can’t be altered why wouldn’t you play a round of matches this week if for nothing else but to give the majority of players some match fitness . Might mean some sides can’t play reserves but it’s at least re- engaging players and giving most match fitness.
The league is pretty keen to get the indigenous round completed, so round 15 on the new fixture

Yep, big decisions to be made now, couldn’t see us playing this week, but may give us the chance to get a round or two in before a top 8 final series with metro guys available for finals
Us and in Lakers with a number of metro players (I have no idea of locality of your players) or do you mean us as in the KDL?

Just tragic to hear of the passing of Adrian Meka he died after a very short illness He was an absolute gun on his day kicked a ton at Ardy as a small forward unbeatable when the ball came to ground with his uncanny skills Meks also played at lancy where he played a big part in getting them over the line for the 2011 flag he was only 32 R I P Meks

I'd think the League would be crazy not to play this week take every chance you can to play while you can.

Absolutely fly if not what’s stopping teams lining up a practice game to get some much needed miles in there legs even without a crowd a club would still make a nice little profit in the canteen to help the club

League, we wouldn’t be affected too much by metro unavailability, two players Ben Hutton & Matt Waterson would be unavailable, two big outs but we would still be keen to play. Think Avenel would be the most affected side, but if a Final 8 was announced, you’d think they would be safe to keep a double chance even with a few not available for the next week or two.

Yeah I gathered Avenel would be affected. Violet Town probably the worst to be honest. They tweeted (I’m guessing their President, Matt) today and after last lockdown that they’d only have 18 players available for 2 grades of footy. He’s mentioned that in discussion too.

Be interesting to see whether metro get out Thursday night or not. I guess many clubs will be affected to some extent, not all to the extent of VT though. Might hurt some Reserves games but at least Senior teams can play.

RIP Meks, a champion bloke taken way too soon.

If the league wants to play this weekend, drop Rd14, play Rd 16 this week and add the Gig v Tally and Undera v Longwood games.
Then Rd 17 and finish with Round 15, the indigenous round.
Ardy Murch & Shepp East play 12 games, they get an extra 4pts for the extra bye, everyone else 13. Easy 😉

Us senior guys probably need to take the blinkers off a bit, there is 7 grades of netball, U/18 & U/12 football and the reserves (obviously be a flow on affect from senior unavailability) that would be hardly affected by the metro lockdown and therefore should be getting back out and playing as soon as we can. If a few sides have to take a hit for a week or two for the betterment of the whole league and the other teams at their own clubs, then so be it.

Yeah agreed Hank. It will massively hit VT if metro can’t travel here this week or next, and a few other clubs might be short some ressies players. But across the league as a whole I’d say larger percentage of clubs will be okay. I don’t think clubs will be consulted anyway. League will make the call. Which has its ups and downs.

Anyone have a map of what is now considered "regional " Victoria under the latest covid freedom act?
Here is what is classed as metro Melb;
Metropolitan Melbourne is divided into 31 local government areas (LGAs). Those LGAs are: Banyule, Hume, Moreland, Bayside, Kingston, Mornington Peninsula, Boroondara, Knox, Nillumbik, Brimbank, Manningham, Port Phillip, Cardinia, Maribyrnong, Stonnington, Casey, Maroondah, Whitehorse, Darebin, Melbourne, Whittlesea, Frankston, Melton, Wyndham, Glen Eira, Monash, Yarra, Greater Dandenong, Moonee Valley, Yarra Ranges and Hobsons Bay. 99C9C250-C86D-452F-9096-A4E57CB63D51.png

We would field a side definitely wouldn't have a reserves side, I doubt Netball would be affected, The first lockdown, we had a heap of injuries so would of struggled fielding a side at all, Going through our registered players if they are fit and available for a Sunday game we would have 23-26 regionally based for this weekend if Melbourne players weren't allowed to play

Avenel would have 11 players unavailable in the seniors. Have had good numbers but would be stretched to field two sides.

Could the league open up a short term clearance window for reserves for the next 2/3 weeks. These players don’t qualify for finals but just and idea to help get everyone in all grades to play.
Surely there is a few blokes who would suit up to play with an old club, family or friends in the 2nds.

Depending on twos numbers, we’ll probably use some thirds to top up. I like the idea of a short permit system or something like that. Match day type 2 permit that thirds can use after clearance window shuts. AFLVIC would need to be involved in that though. Or AFLGM.

Hank.
Great post. Yes. There’s more to a club than the Senior Footy side.
90% of the time that gets forgotten
I know my daughters are really looking forward to getting back on the netball court this weekend.

Hearing some clubs contemplating playing players from metro Melb who still have a regional address on their licence. I’d hope the powers that be at clubland see the bigger picture and understand the massive consequences this could cause country sport and regional victoria if things were to go pear shaped and a player that has been in metro Melb bought Covid to the area. 🤔

Which clubs ?
Surley if 1 or 2 miss it shouldn't have much effect

Few blokes might have to double up unfortunately
