Agree 100% , the meeting that l attended there was a lot of discussion about kids and the lack of numbers, and how we have to do everything to keep them playing but we have a rule that states you can only have 22, mind blowing

I would nearly bet the reasoning would be that the computer system put in place by mates of AFL house can’t handle anymore than 22 players. I know it sounds stupid but you can’t add anymore than 10 in a team for kids Basketball cause of the program. And we know who runs that one too

If correct and my info says it is Lancys inspirational coach and gun has done his knee and doesn’t look good for the Mac medalist What a massive loss for the wombats if he doesn’t play I don’t believe in one man sides for one minute But this is the player that I believe got them over the line in both the perim and granny last year you just can’t replace players of his calibre

Heard the same thing today also, ripping bloke so if true wish him all the best with his recovery.
Pretty sure there was a ex KDFL coach who played some footy with a cooked ACL maybe he can follow in his footsteps

A lot of soccer players who do an ACL don't have surgery.
They build the muscles around the knee and train them to support the knee.
Back playing in 4-5 months

No idea if any AFL players have gone down this pathway

(Obviously more to it depending on other damage in the knee)

No as the Under 14 Comp will allow you to actually select 25 currently so the system is obviously not the issue just policy

Nick Mellington definitely played without one. I know of other stories. You can strengthen the knee up to not require it as much.

Like riding a bike with a flat tyre Browny, can’t ride it as good you used too, but does the job in a straight line, problem was I had two flat tyres 😂

Sad news if true. Tommy is a legend of a bloke, gun footballer and coach.

Going well Swoop, good viewing the footy down here. Big Maj a joy to watch up front. Most of the grounds mud pits though so hopefully starts to dry up a bit, haven’t seen a lot of sun on game day. Really does brighten up once you get passed wallan down the highway. Sitting 4th with a good run home, hopefully can challenge the big two in Mont and Heidelberg in September.
Enjoying looking at country footy from a far. Will get up to watch my swans for big Subbas 300th in a few weeks!

Depends if you have stability in the knee as to if you can play. Jake Reeves played without one pretty sure and my young fella has played the last 12 months without an ACL… but he hurt it again today. When you do an injury like Tom’s - more complex. He is the toughest player I have ever managed but doesn’t matter how tough sometimes because knee has to have stability.

Mmm
Really

As has become a bit of a broken record, there is a bit happening at the moment as far as clubs looking at how they can best survive and compete in the future within the Goulburn-Murray.

Is there any chance that the custodians of our leagues get together to sort this out? The constant speculation and innuendo is fatiguing and needs a remedy.

I have always felt for that having 28 to 30 ‘community’ clubs competing for two premierships has made the job of engaging our communities for the whole season harder.

In my opinion, leagues of 9 to 10 are ideal, with the final 5. Balanced fixtures where you get to play each other twice.

This not isolated to the Goulburn-Murray, as clubs beyond our immediate area Marong, Maiden Gully-YCW, Cohuna and Broadford have expressed interest in shifting. When a club moves there are knock on effects on other clubs and competitions.

Beyond that we’ve got Hay, Alexandra, Yea, Benalla All Blacks, Bonnie Doon and Goorambat that have historic links to the Goulburn Murray network.

How do you see this panning out?

Broadford expressing interest in shifting would mean 4 leagues in 15 years. That’s a worry in itself.

Rumbalara, toc, violet town, tally, dookie, murch-tool, shepp east, kantandra, waaia and strathy would make a competitive league!

History would suggest otherwise in some regard . Over the best part of 10 years Strathermerton have played in all bar 2 senior GF’s and Waaia has predominately always been within prelims at worst . Toc on the other hand played in 1 pdfnl final in all the time they were in the PDFNL and finished a few of these seasons in the bottom four . Most recently finishing 10th of 14 teams in 2022 ( 2 points and 5% above 12 th) with a side that was off the back of a strong recent era of recruiting and having previous undefeated premiership junior players that were aged 19 ish IIRC whilst often being 42 points .

Allowing Broadford to come into the KDL opens a can of worms, as outside Avenel,Longwood and Nagambie the rest are all over an hr drive, this is fine but then the powers to be will say Alexandra and Yea may as well come in as they are in a division that is about stuffed in the OEFL , what happens then is Murray Div2 ,if it gets up looks mighty appealing to those in and around Shepp

Regardless of anything else occurring if Broadford enters the KDL , Picola and Murray league clubs near Shepparton will have a field day as the reduction in travel aspect will no longer be in play or as significant .
KDL doesn’t need to be a dumping ground at the expense of its own .

I reckon the average losing margin would be a fair bit less than that of the pdfl & kdfl. Murch-tool, shepp east , strathy and waaia would be very close. Tally Dookie Katandra are improving and wouldn’t be far off the mark. Violet town, toc and rumba have a bit of work to do but I’m sure would bridge the gap in time.

The AFL are going to have to look at restructuring some leagues. Like Grasskat has suggested, more league with less clubs might help club some Alive. Less travel, more chance at success potentially.

Dookie, Shepp East have often looked elsewhere as they’ve come from Picola initially. Now with Katty and Tungamah looking, there’s potential for a league that way. Rumba could join that and maybe Tally - heard Murray were suggesting a second league?

Then you’ve got Violet Town, Longwood, even Avenel out that area which is only boosted with Broadford looking and I had heard something about Yea.

Whether or not they need to create new leagues or there’s leagues that way to join.

The Kyabram District would then become an actual Kyabram District. Not whether all clubs around here still surviving taking out of the same pool of players but some things will need to change moving forward.

The notion leagues will be reformed for less travel is garbage, travel will be a part of footy now, you can't have small comps, with no 3rds, the perception that clubs will jump into other leagues for travel is nonsense.

Aflvic will push for minor clubs to enter the Murray league to have a two tiered comp, the only reason they're doing this is to blow up the picola league, so all clubs are under the afl.

clubs need to think a bit further into the future and ask afl vic how do they see juniors been allocated from hunior comps into the murray league arlund shepp, so clubs can continue we'll into the future
