I’m sure my good mate Dan Clarke would be reasonably pleased with their 19 goal win over Undera I’m sure he would have liked a few more wins during the season but a definite improvement on last year hope the veteran goes around again as a player and coach

I have walked out on a job in the past so I won’t comment until he or the club have outlined why.

But I will comment on something that we are now seeing more often and that’s a trend of coaches not willing to sign up for a rebuild, turning down massive offers to rebuild or walking away early in the build.

The points and salary cap system puts a lot of stress on rebuilding coaches and they both take away so much time and mental energy that should be spent elsewhere on the build.

Especially when some of these guys have young families. It's not just a coaching job anymore.

I’ll clarify that he hasn’t walked out on us. I don’t want people to go and start talking about him doing that to us, so I’ll clear that up.

We’ve had some open and mutual discussions about the coaching role for 2024 over the past few of weeks. Both sides agreed a change would be best.

It’s been a tough year for the club losing lots of players after 2023 before recruiting a group in last minute (Pertzel, Easton, Drake, Cowley) and this wasn’t known before we appointed Jaydon in October what the list would look like. We’ve been able to start planning things a bit earlier this year for 2024. Some of the transitions last year didn’t go to well, president and coach changing in the same year can be difficult. But it’s no one’s fault. Just one of those things.

It ended up being a bit of a perfect storm that we didn’t recruit early and some of the group probably left because there wasn’t improvement (among other reasons). Catch 22 type thing.

Jaydon’s work situation also changed early in the season and he is in Melbourne a lot now travelling back for training, which is not his fault but it made things difficult.

There’s no big story or anything to the coaching change, just best for both parties.

Did you guys recruit styles direct as coach or did you go through a player recruiter?
We were hoping to work internally through player and club contacts to get a coach. None of those options worked so we advertised (FB/papers) and reached out to player recruiters. We had a few applicants through those avenues. Jaydon was picked as we wanted a playing coach and the others unsuitable for various reasons.

Doesn't he now work as agent for that player manager?
I’m not sure to be honest. He’s doing some work as a disability carer (or along those lines) which has added to the travel. I’m not sure what other employment he’s involved in though. Most of our convos are football based. I’m not at the club a lot, have been doing football manager and team manager roles and making sure things are running along okay in those areas but that’s been the bulk of my involvement.

Is it true not 1 merrigum player or supporter went into the Dookie clubs rooms after the game on the weekend?
Also heard a player had to get held back after the game as he tried to go a few blokes in the crowd just after the siren went?

I wasn’t there, but have heard reports from both sides and our club was less than happy about the “feedback” being offered by the opposition supporters throughout the game toward our players (and I realise some of it was tongue in cheek toward the Dookie players). However I wasn’t there so I can’t enlighten too much to the specifics.

And I’m not condoning what our player was potentially contemplating either… there doesn’t need to a blame one way or the other some times - both sides could be at fault instances like this. Especially when the KDL has had a big push on crowd behaviour and clubs managing this. Just like no player should be interacting or involving themselves with the crowd at the same time.

Why would a a club go in and support when there team had been abused(what was said all game was vile) by drunks all game and the president told a female supporter to f*** off home when he was called out on encouraging the behaviour?
