Haven’t met you personally jayco but do know a little about your involvement in the club where you have certainly done your bit so mate please don’t feel like you should have or could have done more The major problem amongst others mentioned is that Rushy has an aging population of only 1,335 Mate I would love rushy to survive I really would but this looks the end for the club
Why don't they merge, with either colbo, Stanhope or Murchison? They sound reasonable off field finances, they could get 3-4 home games a year, the plus is that Rushworth has the prep-12 school so kids are travelling there from these towns and they could train at Rushworth, sounds better than just folding

All those Clubs you mentioned are solid Clubs in their own right. If one of those Clubs were struggling like Rushworth are then it might be a realistic fit.

Clubs should not wait to be struggling before looking to merge. Read the play and make decisions whilst your club is strong and ensure you are sustainable into the future

Like in the case of Quambatook. They knew the end was near, with the number of players reducing, the number of juniors not being enough to sustain ongoing function and also having a lack of sufficient volunteers as well.

They decided to go out with a bang with one big year in 2022, announcing it early in the season and turned it into an upbeat finale for the Saints. There was a huge crowd at the last home game giving everyone a chance to say goodbye. Unfortunately, they fell in the Preliminary Final but they went out on their terms instead of an undistinguished end.

The uproar of the forfeit in 2021! I recall it vividly. The rage and gnashing of teeth from some ... calls for fines and public floggings! It's like some people devoid of perspective, empathy or understanding of a township's situation think clubs want to forfeit a game. At any level.

Didn’t rushworth field 2 sides the week before that?
Then had 16 available to take on Avenel and Avenel offered 5 of there best 2s players and rushworths coach at the time said “we would rather just forfeit”
Really looking out for rushworth as a club there.

They didn't have 16... more like 8-10 with the majority being reserves players.

I'd say if they read the play the main thing Rushworth would have to offer would be netball numbers and at a guess those Clubs would already be turning numbers away to play Netball. I'd be surprised if any of those Clubs seriously looked at merging with them & they'd probably get the odd extra number from there if they fold without having to change their identity.

But even a 'takeover merger', let alone a true merger, would result in the chance to improve their playing stocks in both sports, it would increase the membership levels as there would be support from both towns and also have the financial support of the businesses of both towns. It's not something to dismiss without consideration.

sorry if I have missed something here but
When will the call be made on Rushworth?

Sorry Jayco and I’m happy to listen to anyone else side of the argument here but I just don’t understand the benefit of fielding only a reserves sides for a year and then more than likely having to close the doors year after anyway. How will things dramatically change in 12 months? It would be a nightmare trying to recruit players to a club who only field a reserves side. Like seriously??
I would hate to see them shut up shop but they have been battling severely on field for near on 7-8 years with no improvement , I do seriously feel for the footballers , netballers , juniors & everyone involved at the club cause it’s a horrible situation But if they don’t field a senior side in 2023 then I think the writing is well and truly on the wall.
The proof is in the Ardmona pudding

Kyneton and Yarroweyah are recent cases of it working out. Ardmona had other factors at play.

Giving the club and the community a year to develop a plan is better than going into recess.

Gives you a year to find the right coach, all of a sudden you've got 6-7 thirds guys ready to play, 3-4 reserves guys, you get a couple of locals back and a couple of recruits suddenly you're back to been competitive, also it gives them 12 months, if they don't get a coach to merge with a neighbouring side, and get home games at Rushworth, clubs would keen if they've got a thirds side playing ok you'd think to merge

The real issue is there are too many country clubs in the area and a lot of kids are now going to the city for uni

And clubs will merge as a result because they will have no other way of surviving and preserving their name.

In the Wimmera, bitter rivals Minyip and Murtoa put their rivalry aside to merge as Minyip-Murtoa and have performed well since then, winning a couple of flags. Most clubs in the Hume Football League are clubs created out of mergers - including Coreen-Daysdale-Hopefield-Buraja United.

The now defunct DWWWW from the Alberton league consisted of four towns (Devon-Welshpool-Won Wron-Woodside). And we all know about Ouyen United and the many clubs in their family tree.

South Australian country football has a number of clubs made up of as many as four towns - RSMU and BBH, for example.

In time, football in this region will include clubs representing two or even three towns to keep the sport going in their district.

It's a valid post you have put forward the guy that takes on the Senior Coaching job for the year after would have to be a genius. He'd need to be able to recruit approx 15 senior players for 75k and within the allotted points. Kyneton got going again Pre cap from memory so it's a different dynamic now & Yarroweyah have an extra 20k in their Cap to play with & word is they are going pretty hard at it. They were also fortunate that a quality player like Tom Scott stayed with them during this Season and was able to hit the ground running. It's also yet unknown how competitive they will be and if they can sustain it.
