Re: Latest - Hawthorn interested in Kyle Cheney

If this guy is 184cm why are we going after him? We already have too many undersized defenders that don't like body contact
Sorry, but this is a dumb statement. Stratton has shown plenty of courage in his opening season. For all his supposed failings, Tom Murphy doesn't step away from backing into a pack. Outside of Buddy's amazing goals, watch back on that Essendon game, and you'll find that one of the things that got us over the line was Guerra ironing out one of the scum on the HFF to get the footy, leading to a goal to us late in the game. Oh yeah, and then there's Hodge !

We don't want for courage. It's the poise and skill we battle with sometimes

Re: Latest - Hawthorn interested in Kyle Cheney

We tried to get him last year. With Brown dog now gone, it's hardly surprising.

spot on griz

Sorry, not clear on the rules. How does this help with the scholarship situation?

We add our scholarship players with our last picks before the draft happens, so it doesn't really matter if they're pick 20 or 100.

So we may have a plan to upgrade at least two of them with very late picks.

Brown was slow but hard at it when he got to the club then he worked with Bodan "oh there goes my hammy again" Bobacek (spelling) and the rest is history.

Re: Latest - Hawthorn interested in Kyle Cheney

Clarko clearly wanted Kyle because he reminds him of himself as a young fella (still taller though). Good angry ant though is Cheney, gave up next to nothing for him. Nothing to get excited about but could add some steel where required.
With all due respect I dont like the idea of us trading for blokes of similar ability to Clarkson:eek:;)

Re: Who is Kyle Cheney

Young, Hard at it Ranga.

S**t skills, penty of Ticker, probbably play a bit for BH next year.

Could surprise though. Had a great year for Casey i believe.

Not too much of a risk with pick we gave up I think.

Not a bad deal.

Re: Who is Kyle Cheney

He is a very dedicated young footballer. Very hard at it and with opportunity, he could play in the seniors immediately.

He is also very hard at the footy and man. But most of all, he is one of those players that keeps working on his footy obsessively, which is good.

Melbourne had a lot of young players and kept rotating their kids to see who could fit in to their 22. Cheney played a few games and is now that he has put on a lot of muscle and strength in his legs, can play seniors.

One thing is for sure, he will be very dedicated and has a fair bit of self belief. Excellent attitude.

Definitely worth a shot. Gave up next to nothing.:thumbsu:

Re: Who is Kyle Cheney

"Hawthorn list manager Chris Pelchen says he was looking for a player to replace Campbell Brown, which is why they've landed Kyle Cheney."

At only 21 (in a few weeks i think) he might still be at an age where he can be molded. If the club can teach him to swing forwards as well, he would be a good replacement for Brown. Or even if he simply stays down back, if nothing else it adds a bit of height down there - Browny was a great bloke but sadly lost a lot of his effectively when they started penalising chopping of the arms.

Here's hoping we snare a few good blokes in the national draft and we see a few of our BHH players step up next year

From the HFC website
"“Kyle is a genuine country boy - tough, hard and uncompromising and we’re sure with his attitude and endeavour, he will fit in perfectly at Waverley Park.”
" - sounds very much like a taller Browny in that case :D

Welcome to the brown & gold Kyle, hope you have a great career at HFC. Little ginger fella is pretty hard at it from what I remember..... Good addition considering what we gave up.
