Im hoping the Eagles swoop on Van Rooyen before his price goes through the roof. They have the dollars to temp him and he fits the squad profile nicely.

Not quite. You just need to have made 2 first rounders in a 4 year period to qualify to trade future picks, which Port have done with Jones and Sinn.

Haven't the rules changed so the AFL will consider pretty much any trade now (i.e if it's a reasonable trade and the player being traded for is young, it is likely to go through)?

Not quite. You just need to have made 2 first rounders in a 4 year period to qualify to trade future picks, which Port have done with Jones and Sinn.

As a Geelong supporter I can comment here, this is right IMO.

You can also do it so long as you eventually trade in another first for the following year.

And you can apply for an exemption to the rule, which given Port traded for a first year player surely would be granted.

If this draft is as strong as people say I'm guessing Melbourne would be aiming to turn Ports F1 into a current 1.But clubs wouldn't do this unless they had a father/son and wanted to accumulate points down the order.

I also don't know what else Port would hypothetically be throwing in.

Players leave basket cases more often yes but we have seen time after time players go to lesser performing clubs for $$$.

Good on JVR for signing on but if he got a mammoth contract offer he would have gone. That’s the game these days.

You paid overs for Jason Horne-Francis and that is really going to hurt Port's chances for trading for Pickett.

He is not a free agent., Bergman and a 2nd rounder (hypothetically) isn't going to cut it.

And given Kozi has much more runs on the board than JH-F, Melbourne has ever right to demand an equal, if not greater draft haul than North got for JH-F.

I think Kosi is going to do what’s right for Kosi - I don’t know what that will be, but if he decides it’s go to Port, he sure as shit isn’t going to sit theee and say “cmon Port, give them a higher pick which detracts from my new club and helps my old club”.

This is a myth and I don’t know why it was ever touted. A footballer is not being a shit bloke by His original club getting unders at the trade table it just doesn’t make logical sense. He doesn’t get to call the shots either - no involvement other than saying club A.

Imagine if JHF really didn’t want to upset North and requested they send Butters to North plus can they trade Georgiades for a late first so they can have that too? Then he arrives at a club that has lost 2 best 22 players and is worse than when he got there…right

Whether they get that or not is another question but talk of a 2nd rounder plus a mid-tier 22 player like Bergman wouldn't even get melbourne on the telephone. I hope Kozzie does indeed stay because getting unders for another young star is a bitter pill to swallow especially with the scarcity of good forward pockets. There's usually only 1 good one a draft.

Hate to say it but i wouldn't worry, if he says port is where he wants to go, they get deals done so every chance it would involve multiple clubs and they might offload a player to get the draft capital needed.

Absolutely agree, also think ANB and Spargo heavily underrated. All 3 are just magnificent team players despite Kozi having the star factor. Carlton could do with any one of them and they'd be big upgrades.

A week is a long time in footy, but if they lost georgiades and gained pickett with how they played today, it would be a big win as pickett in the forward half with their midfield firing would worry the hell out of sides...watch out for JHF...he was unbelievable today and i say that as a crows fan that loves to see port suck

yeah, a star. He's ahead of Cyril at the same age (at least statistically) and he added about 100k to his contract today. It'll be 2 firsts and that's still well unders. I hope he stays desperately.
