Shame he’s out contract tho… you lose most of the bargaining power.
Will be another Jackson scenario where he goes for severe unders
Lol 2 firsts and a second rounder for a potato that can't mark is severe unders !? 🤣🤣🤣 The way Pickett's playing 2 top 10 min will be required

Thug, always getting rubbed out, out of contract.... 3rd rounder at best....

It’s not surprising that people outside of Sa don’t rate Bergman yet, but you will. He’s already a high end player at 21 with the scope to become anything.

189cm mids with his speed, strength, aerial power, kicking , tackling and running are worth their weight in gold. We swung for the fences with this pick and knocked it out of the park.

We’ve seen what rozee jhf and butters can do, each are elite young mids. Bergman is easily in the same stratosphere as these players

Port fans desperately don’t want to lose him, but it’s always a worry when players from interstate are not signed yet.

If he did leave, a team would likely have just picked up their future midfield leader.

Port will have to pay a hefty price for pickett if he comes here no doubt, but there’s massive underrating of Bergman. Right now all the vic clubs probably have Bergman at the top of their wish list.
I do rate Bergman. But it's still potential at this stage. He had his rookie year, and then an injury interrupted 2022 and is only 1 game into 2023. He definitely has a lot of good traits, I agree. Georgiadis also has elite traits but the last 12 months he has stagnated and even got dropped last season if I'm not mistaken? So for Bergman to enter into trade discussions I think he'd need to put in a good, full season.

And maybe he has the scope to become anything. But Pickett already is this anything. He has already arrived as one of the best players in the game. In his role, I'd say he's the best. At worst, he's top 3. Midfielders grow on trees, elite forward pockets are only maybe one per draft so they are much more scarce.

Pickett isn’t remotely close to one of the best players in the game, he’s arguably the best small forward in the game, probably easily the best small forward by form right now.

The afl doesn’t rate small forwards that highly, probably because they’re so often dependent on their team’s success

Yeah, Bergmans value if he did will depend on his form this year… obviously.

But preseason game and week 1 down and he’s been electric in both.

Arguably our best against west coast and he tore brisbane up.

Take it from port supporters, Bergman is a jet and if we lose him it’s a loss for us and someone is gaining a player who will be the centrepiece of their midfield going forward.

Yep, correction. I meant best players in the game, in his role. lol. Not overall.

The shift towards rating small forwards changed a few years ago. In terms of recruiting and the draft etc. The dogs had to take Weightman with a first rounder. The dees also took Pickett with a first rounder. And if clubs want an elite small forward, they'll have to reach high in the draft to get them. And the same goes for Nick Watson in this years draft. Clubs will have to reach for him near the top 10 to get him. So the shift has well and truly taken place.

Someone tell the Adelaide Crows that the AFL don’t rate small forwards that highly, they just gave up pick 5 for one

Charlie Cameron was not the player Pickett is and got the Crows pick 12

North had a 900k contract in front of Papley a few years back while the Blues had their pick 8 on offer to the Swans for him

Quality small forwards are worth their weight in gold and Pickett is right up the top of the tree

I think the Rankine trade is a good comparison. Pickett has achieved more than him in that time so can’t me worth any less than that.

If Bergman is part of the deal then Port would have to add a first round pick of some sort

Bergman probably worth around pick 20 at the moment, throw him in with a future first and that’s fairly close I think.

I was responding to a post where he called pickett one of the best players in the league.

Do you think he is one of the best players on the league?

The poster later clarified he meant best small forward, which is something I had already stated.

But yeah, the afl doesn’t rate small forwards as high as mids. you can argue whether it’s right or wrong but it’s the truth. recall the last small forward to win a brownlow? To come in the top 10 ? Top 20? How often does it happen?

Also, go and tell Adelaide rankine is a small forward, Adelaide fans tell us he’s going to be running through the midfield.

Pickett better than Toby? Nah.

So Brownlows are how we rate players now?

Pickett is already running through the midfield also if that's what you think makes Rankines value higher. Highly doubt either become full time mids tgoufh, despite what Crows fans may think

I'd have the likes of Pickett, Bolton and Toby Greene fairly high up in terms of players despite them not finishing top 10 in a Brownlow

I was referring to the general afl yeah, not personally. The Brownlow is a pretty good representation of how the afl rates small forwards.

As an example, someone above mentioned Greene, who’s an out and out gun… polled 3 votes last year.

Which just proves it's a ridiculous way to rate players

Who was the last key forward or defender to win a Brownlow ?

Are you saying that small forwards are rated as highly as mids or kfs? Or just arguing for arguments sake? Cause I don’t think anyone thinks small forwards are rated as highly, I’m not sure why this has become such a contentious issue.

Max king v pickett. Who you taking?

I'm saying that a small forward can still he rated as one of the best players in the comp and that Brownlow votes are irrelevant

a) you should never use brownlow as a metric. It's a joke of an award. And b) Pickett is playing a lot of midfield time now.

Steven May, the best defender in the league and arguably Melbourne's most important team structurally got 0 brownlow votes last year. That's the AA Fullback.

You just have to look at Wines. 36 votes one year. Barely a top 50-60 player the following season. The coaches votes is the only credible award in footy.

Cyril Rioli was one of the greatest players in the league. One of the greatest forward pockets in the last 20 years. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have won many awards either. But your attention should be on the merit of the awards, not the player.

He'd be top 40 in my eyes which I'd consider one of the best players in the comp

I'd have Toby Greene much higher and Charlie Cameron ahead of him too, but if Pickett can continue his round one form he may well end up in front of them
exactly. if you're one of the best players in your position, you're one of the best players in the comp.

I agree on the Port posters hopes and expectations for Bergman.

There really isn't much point discussing his value right now as this year will vary it so much.

By the end of the year he could be anything from a high first rounder to a mid 2nd rounder depending on his form and fitness.

I think it will be the former but only time will tell.

Given we just let Amon go, the only way we could really afford to lose him is if Sinn/Farrell/Bonner come on in a big way this year. But even then he has more all round talent to play inside and out, tall and small than those guys.
