Given the sum Lachlan Neale is being offered, what would our compensation be if he left via free agency next year?
900K, 5 years and his age would be band 1 or pick straight after our first round pick. so if we finished next year in the same spot we would get pick 5 and then pick 6 as a compo pick.

I wonder if Lachie's been offered the captaincy at Brissie. It'd make sense for Brisbane, he's a great leader, and there's no way he'll push fyfe out of the position at Freo.

Captain selection involves player vote. Cannot see any player transferring on and gettin the players vote.

Judd did. But it wont happen here.

Harris Andrews is a stone cold lock for the captaincy whenever Zorko/Beams gives it up - he's the current VC at 21.

Couldn't agree more. Harro will take over from tinker either the end of next season or the one after that.

We drafted mids because we lack quality in the middle. Losing a consistent and durable inside mid that averages 30 touches is still going backwards whichever way it gets spun
No doubt, acquiring Hogan while keeping Neale would be incredible, but you’ve gotta trade quality to get quality and it seems like Neale’s a goner as much as we love him.

West Coast won the premiership with a subpar midfield compared to the rest of the competition, but spearheads Kennedy, Darling, Vardy in attack with pillars McGovern and Barrass in defence was enough to control the sky’s which won them the big dance. We need quality talls in attack.

Yeo Shuey and Redden are pretty bloody good. Add Gaff and what Sheed did to replace him and you have an above par midfield.

We need good mids.

Hogan is not a free agent next year.
There is a risk that Hogan’s value goes up next year, or he changes his mind.

Using pick 5 and 6 in the draft is a good option. I think we need to keep getting quality in, so we need to keep one of those picks. But Hogan represents a great opportunity (especially as Melbourne are fairly keen to offload him this year) and Freo should bargain for a fair trade.

picks are overrated, Hogan is a known quality that we can build our team around not unlike Pav.

mids are easier to get. Our history has shown that. We have Fyfe + Brayshaw + Cerra who will all be around for our next tilt. You only need 3 top line mids the way the game is at the moment.

Yeo is the most overrated footballer in the country btw.

Yeo is a jet. Shame we didn’t get him.

Would go close to pick 6. We can arrange just that if you like.
It does benchmark the price. Plus we get another year from him at a bargain salary if we can't persuade him to extend.

I quite like next year's draft. Has some mighty fine WA prospects.

Either way for us there is not much down-side.

Still pisses me off that he was never really interested in Freo and you didn't get into a bidding war with WC. WC only had to give up pick 28 and that was after a week and a half of them trying to get away with a third round pick.

Not sure what was the worst trade we had that year, Yeo or Docherty for 33.

I still don't get how people can be upset at this. We were never in with a real shot. We would have to have given up our first round to get him. Maybe in hindsight that might have been worth it (given we went with Apeness that's an even easier call), but at the time it was a big call to make. We were near the top of the table and didn't have the currency to even get close to outbidding WC - no future trading at that stage too remember. Our cap space was also tighter than WC.

People moan on about missing Yeo, but it would have required a 'selling the farm' type move to get him, if even possible. In the end, we kept our first two rounders and ended up with Apeness and Alex Pearce. If you want to do hypotheticals, a more realistic one would have been taking Lobb (who was available) instead of Apeness. That's more interesting food for thought and was actually a realistic option at the time.

Pardon the intrusion, but if you can get him now, get him.
Josh Kennedy will be 32 by late next season. Why run the risk of having Hogan go to West Coast when you can sure up a deal now?
Just my two cents.

I Dunno, his injury and Fremantles past with players with LTI make me shudder at the thought of picking him up until hes fully fit.

Yeo was the player taken after Forster in the 2011 draft, who played one game and was promptly delisted.

Correct.

But you can't use the logic of demanding massive overs for your guy because he's contracted and then turn around and think you'll get another contracted star player for significantly less.

Sure you can. Why not?

Trading is about getting the best deal possible. WGAF about what other clubs think?
