It appears we paid overs for Lachie because he plays a role at an elite level that’s crucial to the way we want to play the game. To get the right piece for your club, sometimes the price looks a bit rich. I don’t have a problem with the trade, and I’m confident, outside of injury, most are going to understand the logic of the trade by the end of this season.

A lot of late first rounders turn out to be shit

Played a Brent Macaffer style game. Pressure was good.
Many raving about him now like he played out of his skin. Needs a couple of goals a game ideally as a small forward. The one he did get was somewhat lucky. Didn’t have any deliberate shots at goal so we can’t comment on his accuracy.
I don’t think that’s the right measure for a player like Lachie. He doesn’t so much need to be kicking goals but bottling the ball up forward to create goal scoring opportunities. Obviously you need to be kicking some goals in that small forward position, but he could go several games without kicking a goal and be doing more than enough to be one of the first picked.

When your key forwards kick 12 its hard for the half forwards to get a look in

IYO

Bc I hated the trade price we did (and I’ve explained why soooo many times + will do even if he wins a Brownlow and kicks 5 to win a GF
But if he won a brownlow and kicked 5 goals to win a grand final the trade price would have been worth it.
It doesn't matter how well he plays or for how long. Your preconceived thoughts on the trade mean that you have an internalised bias and therefore your assessment on Schultz will always be warped.

How did I know you'd respond, P11?
Of all the snide remarks both for and against the trade, of all the comments made about the game and Schultz, this is the one you decided to quote.
Must be your internalised bias towards me.

Instead of celebrating the win we're taking shots at one another.

Feel free to always ignore my views on players / deals / matches / whatever you like.

Apologies for my discussion of his performance earlier in the thread - it was warped.

I can't stand many of the opinions on here towards players / deals / games...
Many times I don't post and just let it go.

But I will continue to support Schultz and analyse his contribution (biased or not) and won't discuss the trade from my POV unless others exercise their right to discuss it from their POV - you'll notice I didn't mention it and was only discussing the game until someone decided to fire shots across the bow for no reason (as they always do in this thread.)

No doubt you'll find something wrong with my posts and your opinion must be right...right?

Don't worry, if you reply, I won't again and you can have the last word.

I'm not. I'm confident many only judge players by what they do when the ball is in their hands, and thus a player like Schultz will be undervalued.

It's never personal for me. Keep posting and don't let criticism stop you. You post some great stuff and add value to this board. But I'm sure you are aware that we all are wrong at times. I have been wrong alot and I agree we payed well beyond what Schultz was worth in trade price. Also when we get passionate about a topic we often get our back up and we say stuff that when we look back at it isn't accurate. I would swap a pick 14 and pick 36 for a future brownlow medallist and premiership player every day of the week. Look after yourself.

There's never a guarantee that those 2 picks would get us a Brownlow medallist and a premiership player. We probably overpaid for shoota but you have to these days.

With the exception of Macaffer, all those players had/ are having very long careers. That makes the averages lower.
Schultz has only played 111 games. Adrian McAdam averaged 2.2 goals per game. That must make him the greatest small forward ever.

Schultz needs to make more of his opportunities in front of goal.
I think jmac70 clearly, with proof, showed that you are being a bit over the top with your expectations.
Sometimes it's smarter to say "I was wrong". Instead of digging your heals in.

You can think what you like. I have demonstrated how statistics lie, by the Adrian McAdam example. Too many people follow stats more than the actual game. Statistics don’t tell the full story.

What is a pass mark for this guy? 5 goals and 10 tackles a week?

IMO his first year was very serviceable. He played in a new system in a forward line that was hit by injuries and managed to kick 24 goals on top of all the other work he does that is not acknowledged b/c it's not flashy.

There is a reason why he and guys like WHE don't get dropped very often.

McAdam is a poor example. He had an incredible first year, an average second and then was gone.
Schultz has played over 100 games, and looks like getting to 200 comfortably. He is likely to go down as a very good player.
The point that you seem unable to grasp, is that a two goal average over an extended career is elite.

I think a thing that frustrates people isn't a lack of goals or tackles, it's the mistakes he makes when he has the ball, whether shooting for goal, or trying to find a teammate by foot. He is just quite unskilled, and therefore makes errors on simple-ish plays.

You know, I had a massive response fully typed up to this and realised I can't be bothered with a bunch of people replying to me all up in their feelings about my response (not you)

All I'll say is that I wish people would tone down their obsession with contextless statistics

You guys are all so bipolar when it comes to Schultz 😂

And please stop with the "needs to kick more goals in a big win" Bruzzy stole one and he set a couple up. It isn't an issue.
It's never been an issue. It's just mandatory BF Bipolar
