Laidley benches red-hot Nathan Thompson

What are the chances of that happening? You needed a goal anyway. Who cares if Melbourne get one to increase their lead from 5 points to 11? They were in front anyway. If you're going to lose by 5, you might as well risk losing by 11, if it means you are a chance to win the game. It was all about North trying to "score" a goal, and your best goal kicker for the day was off the ground. You telling me Laidley couldn't find four other Kangaroo players who were more worthy of being benched?

No, no one would be squawking.

Are you laughably trying to tell us that if Thompson was left on the ground, (after he had dominated throughout the game), that we'd all be "squawking" at how he should be benched if his opponent kicked a goal? lol

No one would even be talking about it, if he had been left on the ground, because it would have been assumed by everyone that he would have and should have been there all along.

What if his opponent had run down the ground and kicked a goal?

Thompson said on MMM that he was too buggered to chase his opponent, and this is the reason he chose to take himself off.

It was the right call.

Watching the replay again Thompson was not buggered!! he was not standing there getting his breathe back, he looked perplexed and was looking up into the crowd or perhaps the coaches box from time to time.

I now reckon that laidley is just lying about what he did about Thompson. I wouldn't be surprised that Laidley stuffed up and has said that to cover himself. No matter what happened it was disgrace and if I was a North supporter I would want someones head on a plate. If your happy to accept what happened today then that is certainly not the 'shinboner spirit' is it.
Thommo said it when interviewed straight after the game. And Doc Larkins reported at the time, that Thommo took himself off, no message came from the runner.

No way in hell that Laidley would pass-the-buck and let one of his players take the rap for something that he did.

Of course Thompson is going to try to justify his stupid decision. He's not going to say, "Oh, I made a mistake, stupid me."

The facts are:

A.) That Thompson was your most dominant forward on the day

B.) You needed a goal to win.

C.) It would have been irrelevant if his opponent scored a goal, because Melbourne was leading anyway.

D.) Thompson represented the 'Roos best chance of scoring that goal.

E.) The chances of the Melbourne backman running down the field, and kicking a goal are so remote as to be non-existent. And even if this did happen, refer to point C.

And, then after you have referred to point C, refer to point B again.

It was the wrong move (if in fact Thompson made the call). So bad a move, in fact, that it is beyond belief that it happened.

Thomson didn't look buggered to me. He was on the side lines, standing up, looking like he was desperate to get back out there. I think he's just protecting the coach.

That's what I reckon. Something fishy going on. And as I said, so what if he was buggered and couldn't chase? It wouldn't have mattered if Melbourne got a goal, because the Dees were winning anyway. The Kangas needed a goal to win and Thommo represented their best chance of that. He was marking everything.

So do you have the tape footage of the runner delivering a message to Thompson? Or do we go with the other truth that Thompson was on the wing having chased his opponent, then ran off through interchange of his own volition?

Word to the wise Seth, be a little bit wary of libel laws. This forum cannot protect you.

On a completely un-related matter, I can't believe there's currently no thread on Sam Newmans comments pre-game, that the Kangaroos are unequivocally, 100%, guaranteed moving up to Carrara. According to him, they have been offered 1.2 mil to play their 3 matches up there, with the stipulation being that they must eventually move there for good. Personally, I don't rate Sam highly at all, but he did seem very adamant that he had a reliable source and that this was most definately the case.

Thanks for the heads-up OneEyedHawk. What an entirely stupid deal that would be. As the Duffman has said on two rival radio stations today, nobody... NOBODY has presented an incontrovertible financial plan proving the Gold Coast's viability as an AFL base full time. So why would you sign over the future of a club with so little due diligence? The impression Duffman is giving is that North already has a $1.2 million offer from Canberra but nothing, zip, nada so far from Gold Coast.

This is one of the most desperate grasping of straws ever
A full forward is never blamed if a full back runs up the ground and scores a goal. A full forwards job is to score goals, if his opponent runs off him then he should be on his own in the forward line, you want that to happen.

No. I didn't see that. I told you what I saw. You can draw your own conclusions.

If Laidley took him off I don't like it.
If Thommo took himself off i don't like it.

Can't justify this.

Could this be the earliest "tank" ?

Makes no difference to the Hawks as we have run out of old crabs to give them for 1st round draft picks...........

hang on

...they might want Mathew Ball for pick 3 overall (Norf prioity 1, Carlton prioity 2)

yes, lets hope its an early tank

How is Jade going? As well as Johnny?

OK thanks.

Jade saving us some cash on the salary cap, and Johnny doing better than last years FB.

I understand Hawks are happy with their end of the deal (not sure they had a lot to do with Jade), good luck to you. Not sure why so many of you are so keen on seeing the North end of it fail.

It's a North Melbourne thing.
Yes it is.And hopefully one day for you, your club will find out about it.But given in '87 the "family club" cancelled their post GF,"family day" celebrations, because they were still sooking about losing it,and their supporter base has spawned institutionalised-like dipsh*ts like you,I'm not holding my breath.Theres an idea, try holding your breath for 15 minutes. Will do wonders for that miracle of evolution that exists between your, well most peoples ears. ;)

No grasping of straws involved as far as i'm concerned.

He stated he was too buggered to beat his opponent to a contest.

He made the right call and all the whiny bull:D:D:D:D from you lot won't change my mind on the matter.

You idiots think you can break our spirits?

HA!

We are North Melbourne people, we have a strength beyond your comprehension.

Jade is going well and Johnny is performing nowhere near as badly as some of you knobs are squawking.

I wouldn't change the Thompson and Hay deals even if I could.

Very happy with all three thanks.:thumbsu:

Can you honestly imagine Nathan Carroll ever running the entire length of the ground and kicking a goal? :D

I posted this the moment the game ended, a good half hour before the media revealed that it was Thompson's decision.
