Just read that Joe Philbin is being signed as asst. HC.

Senior offensive assistant.

Him and Getsy have worked plenty of years in Green Bay although ironically have never crossed paths professionally until they work together in Vegas.

More connections to the West Coast offense, and I don't mind bringing in someone of his ilk given his extensive success as an OL coach in the past. At the very least he's going to be a good mentor/leader to lean on given his vast experience.

Fwiw, I'm hearing the Raiders are in on Kirk Cousins. I don't think he's option 1, but if they can't trade up to the top 3 I've been told to expect them to make a play for Kirk.

Kirk's nice and all but he's another Derek Carr. And he'll cost plenty of salary to sign. 35, torn ACL, that's two things counting against him. We need a bit of time to grow, not instant success. Yes, we can push for a playoff spot but the AFC West runs through KC for now.

Rumour is Fields will be traded to Atlanta. I wouldn't mind having a crack at Desmond Ridder.

SIGH I was a big fan when he joined the league. If he can be had for something like a third rounder, then it's worth the 'risk'.

I was a big Carr supporter but even I'll acknowledge that Cousins when at his best is a level above Derek.

Ridder is useless - the Raiders would be better off with O Connell at QB.

I don't agree that they need time to grow rather than instant success. You've got blue chip elite talent in their prime at LT, WR and Edge rusher - 3 of the most key positions on a team outside of QB. They were the #1 D once AP became interim HC as well. All they need is to build up the offense and things will click very quickly. This is not something that should take time to build. They're not starting from scratch. The foundation is already there for the most part.

Raiders beat writer Vincent Bonsignore believes the Raiders “will be hyperfocused” on QB at this year’s NFL Combine.
The Raiders are widely believed to be one of the more quarterback-hungry teams this offseason. With Jimmy Garoppolo expected to be cut early into the offseason and second-year quarterback Aidan O’Connell profiling more as a career backup, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported earlier this month that they could make “a potential move up in the draft” to secure a young signal-caller, which will likely be required of the team that currently holds the No. 13 overall pick in April’s draft. If the Raiders don’t move up in the draft, they’ll want to make sure they go as in-depth as possible on quarterbacks outside the consensus top three to ensure they don’t take a massive reach on a quarterback they hope will be the cornerstone of their franchise for years to come.

Been told to expect the Raiders to try to trade into the top 3 of the draft PRIOR to free agency starting. This would give the Raiders certainty of getting one of the top QBs in the draft and would hence not need to invest heavily in the QB free agent market.

It is exciting and worrying. We need a QB. We will have to give up the farm to get one.

Pats are interviewing all the top QBs at the combine, Bears are talking about trading Fields before free agency. Havent heard anything about Washington yet. Going to be virtually impossible to get into the top 3 unless Washington only want Williams and the Bears wont trade them pick 1 id say.

Just don't see it happening I doubt any team in top 3 will be willing to move down to pick 13.

Even then there are only 9 top tier talents in this draft for me.

3 QBS - Williams, Maye, Daniels
3 WRs - Harrison Jr, Nabers, Odunze
2 OTs - Alt, Fashuna
1 TE - Bowers

Why if your in top 3 would be you be willing to move down to 13 and out of range of any of those guys. I just don't see it happening I could see a team trading down to 8 or 9 from top 3 but no Further.

That is why you would be giving up multiple years of firsts and seconds to make it happen.

NFLPA players’ poll.

The team would have finished in the top five if it weren’t for the poor showing by former coach Josh McDaniels. The poll was taken prior to McDaniels being fired on October 31 after 25 games on the job in Las Vegas.

McDaniels was the lowest rated coach in the league. Players panned McDaniels (he didn’t do well in last year’s poll, either) when it came to usage of time, trust and communication.

Pats are the most likely to trade out. They are miles away from competing.

If the team has a slew of needs as the Pats do, they could take the long term approach and use their pick 3 to get them a haul of picks which could set them up for a few years down the track.

We've seen plenty of draft pick trades where a team in the teens trades up to the top 5 - so such a move would hardly be unprecedented.

Top 101 NFL free agents of 2024:

Rank
17

Mike Onwenu
OG · Age: 26
The Patriots did Onwenu a huge favor by returning him to right tackle midway through last season. While he’s an excellent guard, he’s better as a bookend. That flexibility, his age and experience could make him one of this year's highest-paid players in free agency.

27
Robert Hunt

OG · Age: 28
A great fit for any zone-blocking offense looking for a difference-maker on the ground, Hunt’s experience as a tackle also shows he has pass-blocking chops.

Raiders have significant interest in Chris Jones heading into free agency. He will be a target early.

Theoretically, if you add Jones and pair him with Crosby, Koonce and Wilson that should be the best D Line in football.

Abdullah 're-signed. Should be looking for a big back if we are going to run it.

He's a really nice scat back though. Has certainly exceeded my expectations in his two years with the Raiders. Now just need a lead back and the RB room will be complete.

On a side note, been thinking about Russell Wilson the last few days. I don't really think he's got a whole lot left but at the same time he's probably the best band aid QB in free agency (below Cousins and Mayfield).

Wilson won games in Seattle when the Hawks leaned in on the run game and had a stout D. That formula is tried, tested and proven. I could certainly see a similar MO if the Raiders were to go down that road.

Not long before we should see some action with player and pick movement. From my perspective they need certainty at QB over everything else. It's why I personally think they need to have traded up to a position to get a QB in the draft BEFORE free agency starts next week.

My dream FA period next week would be to trade up to the top 3 to guarantee one of Daniels or Maye, then to acquire Chris Jones, one elite starting OL (Mike Owenwu perhaps) and a top corner, and of course to re-sign Josh Jacobs.

A little surprised given I thought he played well in his limited role, but also not surprised given Telesco released him when in Los Angeles.

Very clear that they're going to have a completely different defensive interior line this season coming.

Jones gone but some good others available

Yep. Disappointing but far from their only target. I suspect they'll go after Wilkins or Leonard Williams. I'd personally prefer the latter.
