That's certainly a good excuse to save face from Kingsbury's perspective.

The full story of what happened there will never get reported, but Washington came hard with an offer whilst he had agreed in principle to be the Raiders OC. It wasn't as if Kliff bailed and then got an offer from Washington once they realised he was in play. If you connect those dots you might be able to see what I'm hinting at.
Washington trading to draft Williams.

Locked on Raiders podcaster and Raider Nation Radio host Q Myers had an interesting nugget today on his podcast. He doesn't report things explicitly, but he is extremely close to the team, so I found the following interesting.

  • Said that Kingsbury was initially offered a 2 year deal by the Raiders, and the hold up was over the third year of the contract.
  • After going back and forth, the Raiders eventually agreed and offered Kingsbury that 3rd year on the contract.
  • Despite that, Kingsbury said "I'm out" and bolted to Washington.
  • Q then went on to speculate (though it sounded as though he had heard this from people within the team) that Kingsbury had "one foot in, one foot out" even before the contract negotiations started, and that he used the contract issue as an excuse to get to Washington.

Not upset about it at all though. I think Getsy will end up being the better option anyway. For anyone interested in Getsy's offense go and watch Marcus Johnson's breakdown of it on his Tape Don't Lie youtube channel.

Q also added that he expects to interview Hue Jackson this week on the radio, and that Hue will most likely have a role on the Raiders staff (my educated guess is QB coach).

At a Make-A-Wish event here in Las Vegas, I asked Adams for his first public comments on the hire, and his answers won't disappoint.

"I was really excited," Adams said. "That was a good feeling knowing that it was a guy who I have worked with, I know how he works, I know how his mind works, we have had success together, so it is definitely exciting."

Adams went on to add what Getsy will bring: "Innovation, the type of coach that is open-minded, and going to be open to hear things from the veteran players who know how this thing works, and the best way to do things. It's a lot of different things. The open-mindedness and innovation to the offense. A good run-pass balance, and that is what I am used to. That West Coast style, and it will be fun getting to work on new systems and things that we are familiar with, me and the guys.""

Some fans might not be excited, but the people who matter the most are. The head coach and the superstar wide receiver believe this bodes well for Raider Nation.

I don't see any of the QBs in This draft even close to Mahomes.
A just good QB isn't enough

Mahomes wasn't Mahomes when he was drafted as a rookie either. If he was he sure as heck isn't going anything less than 1st overall.

It's about forecasting what you think these QBs can become. In the right system, there is an argument to be made that all of Williams, Maye, Daniels, Penix, Nix and McCarthy can all be franchise guys.

Mahomes didn't do anything ridiculously spectacular today. But he managed the game extremely well and when it was time to make plays late in the game, you knew he was going to make them, and he did. It's not as if he was making all of these hero-ball type plays by any means. But the consistency and reliability is what separated him from Purdy today.

James Cregg is a really good hire. OL coach is also responsible for designing the run scheme, and given his past work with the 49ers I'd suggest that is a good lineage to be following.

He was also the OL coach at LSU in 2019 when they won the award for best OL in college football.

Also, go and watch AP's interview with the Pivot on YouTube. Well worth your time.

Hope he has some input into the draft. Some quality players available

Jimmy G facing suspension two games for violating the NFL's performance enhancing substance policy,

He should ask his dealer for his money back.

Another McDaniel dud

Say what you want about jimmy g but his got made money making skills for a guy who started as toms backup. 63 games played. $160mil earned. $2,539,683 per game.

Jimmy going will save us USD 11 million.

I'm more anti McDaniel for bringing him in and backing him.

So far, things have not been perfect for Jimmy G, who threw a combined seven interceptions in the last two training camp practices.

While some fans and media members may have questions regarding Garoppolo's readiness for the season, the team is not as worried. McDaniels says he has "no concerns" over the picks in practice.

"We've also seen some very good throws. It's a very competitive camp," McDaniels said, per The Athletic.

McDaniels added that instead of focusing on the quarterback's mistakes they should "credit the other side when they make a play."

The Raiders defense ranked last in the league in takeaways last season

With the expected addition of Rich Scangarello as their QB's coach and hiring Luke Getsy as their offensive coordinator, the Raiders continue to add many years' worth of coaching experience on various levels to their coaching staff.
Scangarello’s most recent coaching gig came at the University of Kentucky where he served as the Wildcats’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2022, working with Will Levis before he was let go at the end of the season.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Vincent Bonsignore, the 51-year-old coach has been helping USC quarterback and projected No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams get prepared for the NFL Draft.

  • Tom Telesco expected to be aggressive for QB: “The four teams Telesco worked for before taking over the Raiders settled for nothing less [than a top-level quarterback],” via Bonsignore. “And with the Raiders holding the 13th pick in April’s draft, it seems likely they will explore trading up to get a quarterback they deem a potential difference-maker.”
Back in 2021, the 49ers traded up from 12 overall to three overall to get Trey Lance. Giving us a solid idea of what it could cost the Raiders to do it.

Raiders get: No. 3 overall pick

Patriots get: No. 13 overall pick, 2025 first and third round picks, 2026 first round pick

Yes, that’s three firsts and a third to move up ten spots at the top of the draft. But it also leaves the Raiders with their full slate of 2024 draft picks to build around their new QB right now
Or

But what if the Raiders want Caleb Williams? That would mean a much more aggressive approach. It would mean a jump to first overall. And there’s actually precedence for such a jump.

Nine years ago the Rams jumped up all the way from 15th to first overall. It was the largest jump to the number one pick in NFL history. The Raiders would be a couple spots higher, so it’s not exactly the same, but it’s pretty close, especially considering the value being placed on the QB’s in this class.

That trade had the Rams send the No. 15 overall pick and two seconds and one third round pick in the 2016 draft along with a first and third round pick in the 2017 draft.

It would look something like this:

Raiders get: No. 1 overall pick

Bears get: No. 13 overall pick, No. 44 pick (Rd 2), No. 77 pick (Rd 3), 2025 first, second, and third round picks.

It would mean Caleb Williams in exchange for no other picks on days one and two for the next two years.

Alternatively, you replace next year’s second and third round picks with a 2026 first round pick, making it three firsts and a second and third in this year’s draft. Which seems like a pretty realistic scenario.

On the Pivot Podcast, Pierce was his usual blunt self and spoke surprisingly openly about the Raider's quest to find the answer at QB.

“The wildcard is the quarterback. What are we going to do? Well, we got to put a plan together. There’s quarterbacks, there’s ways to get. Everybody has a price; there’s always a price. There’s always something that people are willing, like woo. ‘You’re giving me that, for this?’ You can create a little doubt there, a little like, hmm, interest. As far as if they want to make that move.”

Pierce pontificated to other options for the Silver and Black. “What if it is not the (NFL) draft? Well, gotta go through free agency?”

Pierce said, “Let’s go worst case scenario. Which is off what you are going off of. We’re are with Aidan O’Connell. Won five games. What happens if we give this kid a whole offseason like we are giving the head coach an opportunity to grow and learn? Because he played his ass off the last five games. He played better than a lot of guys that got drafted around one, two, and three. For the most part.”

Pierce loves O’Connell. That doesn't mean he won't look everywhere to see if he can upgrade but don't dismiss the former Boilermaker star; his head coach is a fan.

I don't mind the Scangarello hiring. Obviously not a good OC but has a solid track record as a QB coach. Has spent time at the Niners under Kyle Shanahan on two separate occasions as QB coach and left both times only because he was promoted to being an OC elsewhere.

With Getsy, Scangarello and James Cregg all coming from that West Coast tree, it seems fairly evident from my perspective that they're going to be running things West Coast style - and I'm perfectly fine with that over the Air Raid.
