Leading Goalkicker in 2008

2007 saw the emergence of a few new regular goalkicking contributors.

A fit Motlop smashed his 6 goals from the year before to kick 44. Ebert improved his consistency and accuracy to kick over 30 more goals in 07. Westhoff emerged as a clever tall with great accuracy and goal sense. Tredrea contributed 30 goals. Even small mids in Shaun Burgoyne and Rodan kicked over 65 goals between them.

Whos going to be our leading goalkicker in 08? Will one of the fringe talls like Cockshell or White step up? Will another small like Gray step up? Will Tredrea get back to his best?

Im picking Tredrea, to stick it up the doubters with 56 goals.

I'll go with Tredders too. If he doesn't suffer further injuries I think he can double his 07 output based on his late season form.

Hopefully Westhoff can be a good foil for him and Ebert and Motlop also have good seasons.

I reckon it would be great if we could develop a classic full forward in the mould of Tim Evans, Scott Hodges or Tony Lockett. Someone who is a real technician when shooting for goal. Would be great if one of our current bunch of hopefulls developed into a player in that mould.

I'd like to see a two pronged Hoff/Tredrea attack out of the goalsquare which would be hard for opposition defenses, but then theres the problem of not having a CHF. I'll still go with Tredders though.

Yeah but now I've got him in the Buddy Draft I'm prepared to predict Chaplin drifting down forward to kick an average of 6 goals a game. Be prepared for many other Chaplin mentions and predictions.

I'm surprised at your answers. I would have thought all being equal Brett Ebert is easily the most likely. He seems to be a natural goalkicker and improved dramatically late 06 and through 07 from struggling to very unlucky not to be AA

Motlop talented but durability and consistency a problem

Westhoff I see more as a goal assist forward but who knows how he will develop. Extraordinary first year given position he was playing

Tredrea looks in trouble to me, a great football mind trapped in an ageing body. I would have thought 40 goals, taking a good defender and on field leadership/goal creation would be the very best that could be hoped for

By the way Cockshell is no chance, cant get a kick at Norwood in the forward line. As a ruckman though.......

Possible. But as a damaging and tricky forward pocket I'm unsure he'll get the most. Plus he may spend a game or three as a midfielder.

Dead right

Also dead right. IMO playing him as a KPP forward in 2008 will be humiliating and unproductive for one of our greats.

I'm hoping Lobbe turns into a sensational mark. Then we can call him The Lobster.

The Flying Lobster launches himself at an unsuspecting c(r)ow (ok granted, a little poetic licence ... ;))

On assumption of a reasonable run of injuries for all listed, I voted Tredrea.

I think the big man has something to prove, *IF* his body holds up through to March April and beyond, look out.

1.Tredrea
2.Ebert
3.Motlop
4.J.Westhoff
5.Tie between Shaun (who plays forward more because of other midfield options and shake tag factor) and Robert Gray.
