Which begs the question, why?

If it turns out he did nothing wrong, or it was on the low end of the scale, then it would appear that we have handled things poorly because as usual we painted ourselves into a corner.

Tall defenders are currently an area of weakness for the club, yet we are happy to put the best performed KPD (statistically at least) on the list in a position where everyone thinks he has to go, based on what? A few rumours and hearsay?

If it turns out that he did nothing or very little wrong then we have hurt ourselves without good reason, yet again.
Just for interest can you cite a few examples? This particular administration and list managers, not previous incumbents.

I'm pretty sure he was going to leave anyway. Didn't accept the contract we had in front of him.

added to the discussion that his relationship with Bevo was not on good terms through the early part of the season based on discussion that Talia was not heading to the game structure.

Do you believe that people responsible for running a multi million dollar business make immature decisions based on what he said/she said? Come on Proffessor, you are not daft?

In this draft its going to be a speculative pick where you are less than a 50-50 of nailing the selection.
That's true of pick #44 in any draft. In fact 50-50 is probably optimistic.

Would be useful currency for DMac if required though.

So what sort of bargain goodies await us at pick 44?
More misses than hits amongst previous Pick 44s, with one notable exception:

2014 = Liam Dawson (Brisbane)
2013 = Aliir Aliir (Sydney)
2012 = Harrison Marsh (Sydney)
2011 = Sam Rowe (Carlton)
2010 = Viv Michie (Fremantle)
2009 = Matt Dea (Richmond)
2008 = Rory Sloane (Adelaide)
2007 = Scott Simpson (Geelong)
2006 = Brad Dick (Collingwood)
2005 = Alipate Carlile (Port Adelaide)
2004 = Mitch Morton (West Coast)
2003 = Ricky Dyson (Essendon)
2002 = Anthony Corrie (Brisbane)
2001 = Ben Finnin (Adelaide)
2000 = Josh Hunt (Geelong)

Josh Hunt and Carlile weren't complete misses, nor Sam Rowe.

A comparison of the players taken at that pick alone is insufficient and at least needs to include a sample of players taken to the end of that round.
So when are you going to do that then? C'mon smartypants, still waiting.

Don't know why I bothered in hindsight.

No he's right in his assertion. The fact that a club made a bad call at #44 doesn't mean there was no quality available (hindsight's marvellous isn't it?)

It's just a lot more work to list them. Here's a sample including 100+ gamers (up to 2007), there are a few useful picks, premiership players and rucks/KPPs among them:

2000 - Chris Newman, Daniel Cross
2001 - Dane Swan, Brian Lake
2002 - Kade Simpson, Adam Selwood, Nick Malceski
2003 - Sam Fisher, Shane Tuck
2004 - James Gwilt, Daniel Pratt
2005 - Joel Patfull, Matthew Stokes
2006 - Will Schofield, Lindsay Thomas, Robbie Gray, Justin Westhoff
2007 - Denis Armfield, Cale Hooker
2008 - Rhys Stanley, Shane Savage
2009 - Ben Stratton, Taylor Duryea
2010 - Tom McDonald, Pual Puopolo
2011 - Tory Dickson, Lachie Neale
2012 - Matt Jones, Mark Hutchings
2013 - Ben Brown, Tom Langdon
2014 - Bailey Dale, Caleb Daniel, Cory Gregson

So this investigation set to drag out the trading deadline, surely we should get special extension on Talia's trade.

I did hear Tom Harley say a week or so ago that they may look at Talia in the PSD.
So fair chance we get zero from him when there is only 45 minutes of trade period to go.

Afl should allow us to arrange a trade at the extended period rather than let him slip into psd for nothing.
