not here to be a twat, but your sharpless sounded like a bit of a battler. Like a small business owner that made a boat load of cash but lacks polish. As I said, not here to be a tool - Freo have just gone and appointed someone very similar as president and it concerns me

This was a very low key affair and the players weren't part of it as the season is over and it's Mad Monday - most of them would possibly be a little hungover.
Sorry James, I think they might have been out buying an outfit today, I believe their mad monday is actually a Wacky Wednesday. ;)

What a great word.

That's all.

Sorry might have read it, just copped qoute.. qoute.. qoute .. with blunt responses, but upon re-reading in context, wasnt there.

Blunt is pretty much my style even when I'm joking (which you checked) - combative is a rare one for me.

Can understand why players not responding may look odd, but to me it makes total sense.

Brown slams the Lions

BRISBANE Lions great Jonathan Brown has launched an extraordinary attack on his former club, saying the Lions are "dysfunctional" and must quickly address their lack of trust at board level.

Lions coach Justin Leppitsch, 40, was released from the final year of his contract following a secret ballot at Monday morning's board meeting.

Brown, who won three premierships with Leppitsch, said the lack of unity among the Lions' board of directors had filtered through the club.

"There is obviously a fair bit of distrust (at board level) and in the football department as well, so it's a big operation going forward," Brown told Fox Footy on Monday night, citing recent reports about leaks coming from the board.

"If (Lions deputy chairman) Leigh Matthews is concerned about the leak at board level, there definitely has to be changes … because we know you need unity at the top of the football club and then that will permeate down throughout the football club.

"The football department has got problems there. They are not united, the playing group are not on board with some of the off-field stuff so this needs to be completely tidied up.

"It is dysfunctional, unfortunately, at the moment and it really hurts me to say this as an ex-player."

Lions chief executive Greg Swann said the club was now on the hunt to find the best available coach to succeed Leppitsch.

Who's in the running for the Lions job?

He added the Lions would also appoint a head of football to oversee the rebuild.

Brown said the first objective of the new coach would be to "get everyone united again", beginning at board level.

"(My) gut feel is an experienced person, I don't think necessarily he has to have coached senior AFL football," Brown said when asked who the Lions should target.

"Get that unity in the football department between the players (and) between the staff, that's critically important and that is going to take a big job."

yeah he seems to struggle in front of camera. I cant say I have a great understanding of the ins and outs of his role though. End of teh day he announced the right decision. Certainly doesnt look like the type of guy that wants to be infront of the camera. I believe the swans guys is similiar to a extent?

Think Leppa was a bit hard done by. He's no world beater but most coaches would have had similar results with Brisbane's current list.

IMO deserved at least one more season. Hardwick definitely deserved to be given the boot before him.

On a positive note we're not hiring a head coach at the same time

Sharpless makes me feel both uneasy and uninspired. Maybe it's the resemblance to Bruce Jenner, maybe it's his glaringly obvious lack of passion for Australian Rules Football and the Brisbane Lions. What I wouldn't give for a Jeff Kennett/Eddie McGuire type at the Lions.
Is KRudd still a Lions supporter? I'm assuming he now finds himself with a bit of free time on his hands given he's no longer in the running for a job at the UN...

How so? Hardwick has really only failed as coach this season where the Tiger's fell away badly. Sure the Tigers failed to win a final, but he's gone 6-8-10-15-12-15-8 wins since 2010, compared to Leppa's 7-4-3. I think most lions supporters would take any of those years at this stage...

In a dysfunctional organisation with severe personnel management issues and rampant issues with leaking... actually KRudd sounds like a great idea. I can't see anything wrong with that.

I think he fits the bill nicely. Brings all the traits already valued by our board, but with the added bonus quality of egotistical maniac!

I'd think some players would have texted Leppa. Tweeting to your sacked coach has never been a thing as far as I know.

I agree about texts, thats a given. I was just going off Voss where most players did, but as James North mentioned they may be waiting until they are not on a bender or after he speaks to show public support.

Im not sure where you are at with this James, but are you suggesting.. if not one tweet or message of well wishes for he and his family, would not be unusual.. they cant send their coach a message because they are on holidays?
It might be more so because of mad monday. They were probably all sloshed, not a great time to be doing those sorts of things. They will start filtering through today. As they wake from their slumber.

He was never a Lions supporter. He's not been seen at the Gabba since 2009.

Wasnt Sharpless one that the afl put in place to try and get the springfield thing over the line after the voss and johnson debacle.
Therefore he has had his time, failed in that venture and time for him to move on. This should be his last act as chairman. Might be the new position for leigh.

A couple of notes from the Paper today:

- Brad Scott first name sounded out after Voss sacked.

- He got the job on the back of his great player development at Richmond (i.e. Rance) but he seemed to "drift away" from that here.

- Blew the board away with a whiz bang presentation. (Have heard that so many times I wish we could see a copy of it!)

- This year the board intially liked the all out attack gameplan as they thought it would get bums on seats but the thrashings did the opposite.

- The power brokers were in Adelaide for the game there and decided at half time that was that.

- Constant blaming of losses on the inexperience of the list "did not go down well" with "bosses". (weird one as everyone knows we are rebuilding).

- "Eyebrows were raised when Leppa claimed had had always told the club the 3rd year of his coaching career would be the worst."

- From the day he was hired there were always concerns about his ego.

- Biggest weakness was refusing to seek advice or take counsel. I.e., he spurned Schwab's help a couple of years ago. He lived and died by the sword.

with Justin Leppitsch and Simon Black confirmed outs as well as probably Gary O'donnell and Shane Woewodin who would be doing the end of season exit interviews/assessments of the players?
