Leppa sacked

Actually I DO have a problem with a secret ballot and an emailed message.

And it's not too much to call 45 players. I've never heard such bullshit in my life. Its 45. Not 450. Or 4500.

You think calling players on Mad Monday is going to achieve much?

Before emails existed, they called the players in from whatever they were doing. The players were there for Vossy's demise.

Voss wasn't fired after the last game of the season.

If Leppas review last year was so terrible as Caro believes then how the hell did he get a new contract?

I think the board led by Leigh gave him as long as they could but it was inevitable the he would prove not be up to the task.

don't forget he is a club legend ! so some respect please ! the man was handcuffed the whole time , did what he could with a bunch of kids

his objective was to get as many games into them as he could , that will be a major help to the new coach , who ever that is !
I think the emphasis placed on blooding the youth is a bit exaggerated now to suit the narrative and the bit about the board moving the goal posts is just nonsense. I'm sure no one ever said don't worry about winning games just go out and play the kids. Our defeats and the nature of them were far worse than anyone (including Leppa) would have predicted. That and the fact that the senior players seem to have regressed made his position untenable. Yeah the other things like the draw and injuries didn't help but I don't think we saw enough to suggest that Leppa was going to be able to lead the club back up the ladder. It was telling that even he thought it would take another three years for a moderate degree of success. He was never going to get three more years to get us to near finals contention (six in all) and if that is what it will take we may as well see if someone else can do it sooner.

Sharpless wasn't great to watch at all. Using the 2013 season wins as justification was ridiculous.

What time does mad Monday start though? Would any of the players be sober/they're probably all off at a pre-booked venue. Decision was only made ~12pm according to the presser.

You saying you want me back ?!?!?!?!

Why not? Because it was all too hard? Not worth the effort? Too much trouble? The fact they didn't try speaks volumes. I couldn't care if it was Christmas day. Or if they were drunk and disinterested. Try anyway. Respect the people around you.

When you want players to invest in you and your direction as a club it would be nice to see the reverse apply too.

Email or text is a last resort not a first.

It really is a dark, dark period for the club.

Caro thinks this is just the beginning too...

Caro is capable of writing some well informed pieces. She also is capable of letting personal agendas become a part of her writing. The Lambert's have done wonderful things at the Lions in the 12 months since they arrived and to say that Craig could be a problem is just wrong. Because he had a go at her for a previous article, she has taken it to heart and decided she will take every opportunity to write that he could be gone.. I would be stunned if there is any evidence to suggest that Craig Lambert and wife have done anything wrong and upset people. More to the contrary they have seen the club re sign the majority of players that were un contracted.

Just looking on Twitter, it should be remembered just how much time and effort Christie Leppitsch has devoted to the club over the past 3 years. It is rare that you see the wife of a coach investing so much time into club initiatives and the like.

They would just tell them on the phone.
Vossy was mid season. They were at the club for training anyway

IIRC, It was on the news the night before any press conference.

As I said earlier, this wasn't really news for anyone. In this instance, it was 90% certain that he was going. The players would have known that it was very, very likely to fall this way this morning.

I wanted Leppa to succeed. I think with the right support and infrastructure he could have succeeded. I think he is smart enough, passionate enough, personable enough that he could have succeeded.
But we can't pretend he did.

I'm not blaming him alone for having failed, but his position has been untenable since well before the bye.

As much as I wanted them to keep Leppa I try to see this as a positive. Look at Beveridge and Hinkley. Were able to inspire cellar dwelling teams and give them a taste of finals instantly. Whoever takes the role, good luck to them and hopefully they can lead us in the right direction. And as for Leppa, thank you for giving your all in a dark time of the club. Put everything on the line and will always be the club legend he has and always will be.

I think mainly because they would be too pissed to care and/or might react unhelpfully.

Sacking Leppa will be for nothing if other changes aren't made. He can't be the only fall guy for where this club is at. The Chairman of the Board and Board members have been on the job Since Leppa was appointed and what good have they done for the Club??

Leppa had his faults but I thank him for having a crack at trying to improve the clubs list for the future.

Oh I get that... trust me. There would have been some shocking calls...

But tomorrow and next week the fact they were made will count for more. And be more about what we stand for with regards our values as a club.

Isn't it up to the members to decide on the board?
