The thing that really cost Lethers is the Ratten appointment. He came in to improve the club and recognised Richo wasn't up to him, so he brought in Ratten. Ratten was a slight improvement, we basically went from being s**t to ok. But ok isn't going to cut it if we're after flags.

The review said Ratten isn't driving high enough standards and isn't up to it. At that point Lethlean was essentially gone as he had to have discovered that earlier and the reality is if Bassatt hadn't stepped in we'd still be exactly where we were with the same people running the show and taking us nowhere.

That all sounds good except for the fact that Satan opposed the Ratts extension.

Finnis made that call & the club copped a shitstorm as a result.

I'm not sure about that, but Ratts was his man he got him to the club and appointed him and according to the review he oversaw some fairly average practices while Ratts was in charge.

Lethers started the review after Ratts had been extended by Finnis. Strange that he would do that if he was the one who pushed the re-signing.

From memory the review found it was coaching & rehab standards that needed to be addressed. Mainly due to players not being held to account by Ratts & the coaching group when they cut corners.

The point I'm making is if the review found the coaching and rehab standards were poor then that reflects poorly on Lethlean as head of football.

Anyway it's water under the bridge now. We are in a better position now than when he started, he got some things right and some wrong that's footy I guess. Bottom line seems to be be isn't the right fit for what we need now or at least that's how the club is selling it. It doesn't really feel like a loss.

I agree, I saw Lethers as a change instigator... and was ruthless in his decisions.

When all the changes are made, then what is left for him to do.

He was obviously not great in the football department and as CEO he needed to step up in the business side of things. The club may have seen that he wasn't great in that area too.

Don't see it as a loss, onwards and upwards.

I suspect the review occured as the prez and satan realized what a massive mistake had been made and they were boxed in at that point.
Satan was correct on his assessment of Ratts so he survived that cull.
Finnis, if he wasn't already going was done for.

Bassat has to now stay on for as long as Lyon is coach.

Bassat can't make a Captain's pick and make Lyon the most powerful person at the club and then bugger off as it is a deck of cards under Bassat and Lyon now.

This rebuild will take longer than Lyon's first full contract so I'd like to see Lyon hang around for at lest 8 to 10 years and Lyon won't survive if Bassat isn't around also so makes sense to make Bassat our long term president while it's a two man show.

Yeah I think he might have made a mistep in relation to the HS article on the DFC profiteering, the fact he didn't get on with Bassett's captain's pick wouldn't have helped.

Just look at the shit canning of Lethers as to why people shitcan Gaggs, he gets referred to as Lethers mate to reinforce the job for mates rhetoric, regardless of how that dept grew or what it did.

As an aside, I'd also take Rath into Walsh rather than run with Sexton, so Lethers also gets a pass on that front by rotating that man outta the club. Shoulda stopped at development and never stepped into coaching but I digress.

Gags did exactly what he was directed to do and rebuilt this list, straightening the contracts. Allison was granted extra development time due to his circumstances and hasn't come on. Hardly a crime of any note.
