Sidebottom doesnt have bad disposal, he has 22 posessions tonight and had 82% efficiency, I know they are just stats, but I only saw one bad kick from him all night.

He may not have penetration in his kicking. but that is one thing you can improve on with leg strength built up over time.

We have found 2 inside mids in one draft, who will both play 200+ games of AFL footy, barring bad injuries of course (poor Rusling).

I honestly don't see how anyone can praise Sidebottom after that performance. Maybe it looks good on the stat sheet, idk, haven't looked.

But as much as I want him to succeed long term, I though he was woeful, and should be first out next week. Well, second out after Leigh Brown.

edit: On second though, third out after L.Brown and Corrie.
You thought Sidebottom was woeful?

Next question if Sidebottom was woeful what was Toovey and Leigh Brown? I thought mod's had to have at the very least some clue.

Toovey was in our best handful, and Brown was probably WOG.

I find I very rarely agree with you CD, we have a very different understanding of football, so this is nothing new. Each to their own.

Utter rubbish, one of the worst calls this year and I've seen plenty.

Sidebottom has more ability in his little pinky than Toovey has in his whole body. Just a rubbish footballer who does jack, can't stop blokes, can't get the footy, and can't use it on the rare occasions he does.

Look, you've started roughly 173 threads on why Toovey is the devil. Everyone understands that you don't rate him, and never will. That's fine.

But he used the ball well tonight, if you actually re-watch the third quarter, you'll see him drill 3 low kicks right onto the chest of team-mates.

i dont agree with your steele assessment, your toovey one seems apt although i would still probably have him out this week (i do have seven changes lol)

also for an arbiatary number in 173 i reckon it might be pretty god damn close

And how many goals did Toovey concede may I ask?

Bout half the number that Harry did.

I'd be putting the blame for St.Kilda's excellent conversion at the feet of the turnover merchants running between the arcs.

When you turn the ball over like we did, defenders don't have a chance.

Wow, three low kicks gets him in your best players, you're easily pleased.

I'll take your three kicks and raise you his job on Goddard which he failed at, plus Goddard set up their second goal with no Toovey in sight. He manned up Dal Santo for a brief time but was moved when Dal caught fire. And to finish off his big night, he coughed up 2 late goals to Schneider in the last quarter. And yet you had him in our best BASED ON WHAT???

Open your eyes:eek:

Thanks.

I could only watch bits and pieces of the game due to unforeseen circumstances. It will go into my player review later on.

thought this was sposed to be about the positives??:)
Bucks seemed esp pleased with the endeavour from the team under the circumstances. Sometimes in the commentary he seems to be the only one watching the Game.
1/2 time show with Bruce was insightful regarding the Saints, as usual the core group in their mid 20's and came up together. Something we have to look forward too.
Big Ant's effort against at times 3 or 4 defenders. All our crumbers in the crowd.
Side Steelbottom.:D
1st quarter defensive pressure.
I thought the aints forward 50 defensive pressure was a game facet that we use when our best 22 are available and its a feature we need to develop further and stick with.
Sydney's flood has been duplicated in St Kilda.
The Kids got more games.

Maxwell was very good... Best game he has played in a while... Steele was very impressive on debut, our forwards were absolutely terrible. I would strongly consider dropping Cloke, and Bring in Dawes to play Cloke's role... Just heard Cloke will probably miss with a Hamstring injury as I write this so, that solves that issue. I thought although I will probably be shot down for saying this Macaffer did a few really encouraging things, that make me think he will be a very good player in the future. He gave a few little quick handballs, one early on and one in the last that set Wellingham up for a shot on goal. Wellingham was good, and has really taking his chance... Barham was also good, just love the way he goes about it... Hope Stanley can string a few games together, as I feel the mistakes he made tonight, were made to look bad due to the fact that our forwards werent leading and providing him a target to kick too, she he tried to take on the game - not a bad thing in my opinion. Pretty hard to judge the Kid on one game against the pressure of the best side in the comp at the moment. Was a shocking Loss, but the boys should bounce back and we definitily have some positives to take out of the match...

Care to give some reasoning? I thought he was very good.

Most of his posies where in close, by hand and hit the target. Even when being tackled on 3 or 4 occassions he held onto the ball long enough and had the composure to release the footy when he saw a teamate and did not just handball straight to the saints like most of his teamates. yes he made a couple of bad kicking errors that resulted in turnovers but I reckon if you watch the replay you might realise you are being a bit hard. His work in close was probably as good as anyones in the side last night. Very harsh indeed. He must play next week.

Sideys disposal is above average. Can't kick over a jam tin though....

looked to have decent depth in his kicking in the under 18s gf. Kicked 1 goal on his left from outside 50 so it cant be too bad.

While we are talking positives I reckon Nathan Browns last few weeks have been very good. He coped a bit of a canning early on in the season but he has hardly had a goal kicked on him in recent weeks. Kosi was one of the saints least effective last night and Brown is starting to get a bit of consistancy in his game.

Steel Sidebottom and Scott Pendlebury both won 5 clearances each. That is more than the entire St Kilda team (individual players) could muster in 4 quarters of football.

Thats were stats can be deceiving - we were absolutely smashed in the clearances, particular around the ground ball ups and throw ins. Saints worked it away from the contest far too easily too often.

Doesn't help when you have a dud in Brown in the ruck and twits like O'Bree turning it over every disposal.

Sidebottom was good. It is perplexing how anyone could suggest otherwise! He showed composure and awareness under pressure. (Unfortunately that's where Stanley just doesn't seem to have it). I think his kicking lost depth as he looked to blow up a bit and probably faigued in the legs. A couple of pre-seasons will sort that out.
Maxwell just about best game he has played IMO.
StKilda - as with Geelong - just make us look like boys playing against men. Broke tackles, held tackles, won contested ball and had a sixth sense of where each other was. That's what 5-6 years in the gym and playing together as a group will do. We are still 2-3 years from that.

What it shows is, is our ability to win the clearance but turn it over due to pressure applied to the ball carrier.

Case in point - Sidebottom roves Brown's tap to perfection resulting in a clearance but out of nowhere Hayes pops up, snatches the ball out of Sidebottom's grasp (whilst in the act of being tackled), runs off with the pill and his resultant kick ends up in Riewoldt's(?) hands.

Our lack of finishing was to our detriment.
