Let's forget the rejects and get the kids!

I have some official, concrete information [physical proof, not word of mouth] that says this will happen. Either that, or we're getting another Irish rookie. Pretty much 100% confirmed as far as I can tell [though I don't know whether it's Marty or another, I'm just assuming Marty. Or maybe hoping? For all I know we have already announced a new Irish rookie and I haven't been paying attention?].

And yes, I'll await the "let me guess, your neighbour's girlfriend's dog trainer told you?".

I REALLY DON'T WANT THIS TO HAPPEN!!!!

I would only consider it if the kid is a superstar. He's run away before and if he's had to be convinced to come, I wouldn't go near him. I would only have him back if he was aching to get here and literally begging for it because he doesn't strike me as the type who has the drive to force his way in. If it wasn't working out he'd just go home again. Cut our losses as far as I'm concerned.

Look at Jack, what a sook.
The guy's like 21/22 and he has 1 injured preseason and leaves because he's not guaranteed a spot in the team? Fine if the kid tried for a couple seasons and couldn't crack it or even if he'd hasd a preseason and couldn't get in but this is just ridiculous. I want committed, dedicated players who are going to do what it takes to force themselves into the team, not premadonnas who will run away when it's not handed to them on a platter. No thanks.

Now that you've made me feel not special and ruined any sense of self-worth I had from finally having some inside info... Let me just say I know HOW we lured him here. That's all I've got left!

By the way, how do these amateur Irish athletes develop such good tanks? Crazy.

This is an excellent question.

It's something that should definitely be looked into by the fitness people.

It could be simply a coincidence re both Marty and now Cribbin winning our time trials, but possibly not.

Both games they finished over the top of our boys, which also supports your theory.

Wonder if MM got any insights when he was over there.

I agree with this thread in principle with one exception: I would love nothing more than for us to pick up one of the Saints rejected youngsters and turn him into a star just to stick it up Ross Lyon. I know nothing of Luke Miles other than he won the GF sprint and that Saints fans are shocked that he was delisted. How sweet would it be for us to find a hidden gem in Ross Lyon's scrap heap? It seems like his coaching style is to suck all confidence out of his players other than the superstars. He doesn't show any confidence in them at the selection table and seemingly instructs them to play without any natural flair or instinct. Does anyone know anything about this kid and if he might be worth a shot?

Whatever happens, I have full faith in whoever Hine chooses such is his record.

Leigh Brown & Shanw Wakelin filled some spots that we required and weren't too old or spuds.

I was simply saying stay the F@#k away from Bums like Johnstone and Hahn as they are rubbish we don't need.

I'm happy for them to take a young recycled player that would add value to the list...the 2 mentioned above would not IMO! :thumbsu:
The point is, you cannot just make a blanket statement like "Let's forget the rejects ...."
Each delisted player will be looked at depending on upside, our needs, his commitment etc.

I used Wakelin and Brown as examples of where it worked well, I could find many more such examples in other clubs (Hall, Dew etc).

We are rookie listing Paul Cribbin this year and Caolan Mooney next year - both Irish rookies.

To the OP none of the recycled players this year are really that interesting so I agree with the sentiment.

I'd be interested in a mature KPF as depth if there was anyone available that was any good. Players like Smith, Murphy and Still all have their issues.

Stick to best available.

Yes - regardless of age.

We should wait for the next uncompromised draft (2012) before we restock with youth. Until then, we have no real need.

True.

I'm not against taking recycled players if they are best available i'm just dubious about the quality of the recycled players this year.

But the draft will thin out late and we have had a history of punting on recycled players at the tail end of the national draft in the past so it's a distinct possibility.

Actually ruling out taking recycled players entirely is being naive as they very well maybe the best pick in a given scenario.

Saying we should wait to 2012 to re-stock with youth is just as naive though. It's just as likely that going with youth is the right option. It depends on the scenario at each pick. Best available is the go.

Provided that they're under 27 - If the average draftee only gets three years on the list, then it only makes sense to draft someone who can spend at least that long on the list without going downhill due to age.
