You are the quintessential South Australian, always negative, chip on the shoulder, glass half full, whinge whine etc etc.

Get over it (or yourself) and accept that some people are working their butts off trying to get the PAFC back where it belongs.
I'm being realistic about the situation. If you want to discard those realities, then be my guest. You're more than welcome to enjoy signing other team's depth players

He's a West Coast depth player behind the likes of Beau Waters and Shannon Hurn. Not a Port depth player behind the likes of Tom Logan and Darren Pfeiffer.

Stupid double post. ...
There is a delete option. :)

Seem like he will start on the back pocket, flank. Seems to be what we need in our defense. Highly rated just behind the pecking order. The admin must be reading our forums, lol. What next i'm more excited now rather than nervous. Don't do a back flip now admin.

What do you think trade week is about? It's not about shuffling superstars around - it's about finding the depth players that will fill positions 15-22 in your match day squad...the guys who might not be given a go somewhere, or might not be the right fit for a certain club's gameplan...but will hopefully do a job for you while the players you draft develop around them.

That's being realistic about the situation.

Moneyball at its finest

Don't expect greatness

But be happy, look at it that we traded Rodan for an actual HBF, he won't be anything more than a B grade player, but he is a lot better than having
Cassis, Logan, Pfieffer, Hartlett (means hartletts in the middle), Jacobs or O'shea there by the sounds of it

O'shea, Blee or Stevenson one of them will be delisted in 2/3 years
O'shea i'd be hoping your irish luck pulls through

Fun fact: Lewis Stevenson was in my Dream Team in 2010. Took notice of him because of that and liked what I saw. Was surprised that he didn't get more game time at West Coast, but it's worked out well for us.

Cheap defenders are always the hardest spots to fill in Dream Team. He could potentially be a lock in most teams next year, and anything that gets people talking about Port Adelaide has to be a good thing.

Me thinks Port have taken the learnings from Sydney who in turn took their learnings from the guy who set up the baseball team in America and was the basis for the movie "MoneyBall" starring Brad Pitt.

Essentially trading and selecting trades for needs based requirements and building the team ethos. have to say some very astute recruitment has happened.

Genuinely excited about this trade. Pencil this kid in on our HBF for the next decade. I've been saying we need to get someone who can defend AND rebound for years rather than a bunch of players who can only do one or the other, and we've finally gotten him.

Welcome to Port Adelaide Lewis Stevensin!
Rodin for Stevinson.... subtle!

I'm not sure people understand "Moneyball" philosophy. Moneyball for AFL would be loosely picking a back six defensive unit based on the 6 players available that had the lowest number of goals conceded against them in professional AFL and 2nd tier football. Even with Stevenson, we wouldn't have the "Moneyball" back 6 for the league.

Or the reverse, picking the best available forwards on their score involvements or even simpler, goals scored.

Yes, its about filling needs, but its not necessarily about getting "cheap" players, it's about getting the best available player for the cheapest cost (ie picks).

Smart trading, yes. Following the Moneyball ethos...debatable?

It's a start. But if we were truly following the Moneyball ethos, Tom Logan and Matt Thomas would be immediately gawnski.

I thought Rodan was delisted?
How can we actually trade him if we shunted him already?
Maybe contracted?

Players aren't officially delisted until Oct 31. If a club announces a player is delisted it only means they won't be offered a contract for the next year.

Really good piece of work again by Butch and Sundance. Identified an AFL listed but essentially quality state league player who fills not only a need but a cornerstone of Hinkley's coaching philosophy - an attacking strong running tall defender. They not only secured him for nothing but did a club favourite son a favour in the process as well as protecting later picks for maybe another tilt at a similar type of good player who can't crack a strong side.

Like the highlights package, tall, strongly built, strong runner, bit of pace, super kick and good decision-making. Will fit in nicely.
