Reading that his p.a. salary surely won’t qualify for any meaningful compo?Carlton eligible for compensation on Liam Jones
Liam Jones, expected to join the Western Bulldogs on a three-year deal, has been deemed a free agent by the AFL, giving the Blues potential compensation.www.theage.com.au
Especially because the money is spread over three years for cap reasons.
Brisbane never used the pick.He was traded for effectively nothing. A one pick upgrade on a third round draft pick - Hodge and pick 44 for picks 43 and 75.
Three years is still a long time for someone his age.
It is but I assume/hope the extra year security means the average wage is pretty low.Three years is still a long time for someone his age.
Surprised such a long deal is on the table. Not played at the top level for a year, and he'll be 34 when that contract runs out. Big gamble by the Bulldogs.
I think it's a massive risk personally, I can understand teams would have to pitch at least 2 years to sign him.You seen the Dogs defence lately? It's not a gamble at all. Smart business.

Carlton isn't going to get much2 Years is okay, 3 years is defintley dicey.
But it means Carlton get a juicy compo pick, I'm all for it
Carlton isn't going to get much
It will be based on contract size, which won't be alot3rd round pick in the deepest draft in years , yep not going to knock that back

Pretty sure GWS did that for Joel Patfull one yearOne of the articles a week or so ago mentioned the third year was purely for salary cap reasons. May be a case of he will likely play for 2 years but have some money spread into a 3rd year on the rookie list if needed.
so why exactly are carlton going to get compensation for the dogs recruiting jones? its their fault they kept an ineligible player on their list. no other clubs get compensation for delisted free agents or retired players.
That's what I thought? Do they give out 5th round or 6th round picks as compo? It’s extremely long odds he will generate a compensation pick (unless it’s a dodgy deal from the AFL) based on his age.
of course its a dodgy deal from the AFL, the compensation equation, like the priority pick equation is intentionally obscured. It’s extremely long odds he will generate a compensation pick (unless it’s a dodgy deal from the AFL) based on his age.
