ligament damage actually worries me much more than a broken bone. bones heal much better than ligaments. a broken bone healed properly takes 6 or so weeks while to heal a damaged ligament properly can take years (and its so hard to tell how bad it really is). fingers crossed its not one of those cases.

Yeah I stuffed my ankle ligaments in the pre-season. It's pretty frustrating and movement can be restricted for a long time but it should affect too much. Does anyone know what foot it was? It is a pain in the arse if the injured ankle is your kicking foot.

I think you re underestimating how debilitating broken legs tend to be. More often than not payers can oft fail to fully recapture their form, not sure I've ever heard a rolled ankle be career ending

I wouldn't worry too much about ankle ligaments. Even if it is bad a little bit of pain and some swelling will be all he has to deal with. Basically 0 impact on performance and ability to get up for games.

Liam McBean was the player i wanted most in last years draft period along with Brodie Grundy with our 1st Selection.

Whilst Vlastuin has had a great year and really looks the good , Could you just imagine our big man stocks with Vickery,Grundy,McBean,Elton - All having the ability to play Foward & Ruck
We wouldnt need a designated Ruckman and could just about destroy any Ruck combination withe these 4 boys rotating through our foward line and ruck.

Whilst i am happy with Vlastuin as a player , I just believe that we had the chance to set us up for the next 10-12 years in our tall foward/ruck dept.

But this thread is about Liam McBean --------- And I TOLD YOU SO !!!!:p

yeah good call.mcbean flew under the radar due to playing so much footy with daniher.a guy his size with that ground ability, its like the bastard son of naish and benny gale.

Mostly because McBean played the majority of time in his defence. Soon we're going to have about 4 Harry Taylors in our team swinging from defence to attack :p

whilst we are all (correctly) banging on about Liam McBeam, I have very high hopes for Todd Elton.
Will debut early next year and develop quickly
I've only know hear say about Elton while watched the odd Coburg game on TV, read the Coburg reports ........do you think Elton's disposal can get to AFL standard? He's a handy size, just hard to predict how far he can go based on what i know (which is pretty 2nd hand knowledge).

Can't be too bad, he was walking on it yesterday.

Yeah he was. I ran in to him at the Essendon game, and he didn't walk with any limp, and it didn't seem to be causing him any discomfort, so that was a positive.

I am 6 foot 1 myself, and McBean just towered over me. Very, very imposing figure is Liam. Still on the slight side, but he does look a lot more solid now than he did at the start of the season.

It's the off season so I'm just going to put this out there. McBean as a tall wingman in the style of Richo? Could be that big link up player with the agility to get the ground ball also? Thoughts?

I think Vickery would do well in this role, too, Darth. I think that McBean's cleanness below his knees would be more important to us in the forward line, than it would further up the ground, so I'd rather have Vickery fill that role.

Yeah interesting. Either one is mobile and agile enough for that role. I was just thinking about how exciting this guy is for a 19 year old and how we could fit Vickery, Ivvy/Hampson, Reiwoldt and McBean in one forward line. One of them playing a wing could be the answer also gives us that flexibility to switch up our talls if things aren't working.

Absolutely. It gives us a dynamic that no-one really has in the AFL at the moment. Either one would give their opponent a run for their money. Both are extremely mobile, and good in traffic, both can take a mark, and are accurate in front of goals, so they are going to have to use someone mobile enough to deal with them, but that are also very good defensively to counteract their offensive abilities.

Very happy with this.
