Any word on the scans?

Hoping for some minor miracle and the injury isn't as bad as first suspected :)

Bad news.....Liam's ankle and foot had to be amputated.

...still a good chance to debut this week and kick 6.

Exciting, young Tiger key-forward prospect, Liam McBean, will miss the remainder of the 2013 season with an ankle injury.

It was initially feared the 18-year-old had fractured his ankle while playing for Coburg against Box Hill in the VFL on Sunday, after he limped from the field during the third quarter. Scans today, however, revealed no bone damage.

McBean has damaged ankle ligaments, which means he will be sidelined for a short period.

“It’s disappointing for Liam, but the good news is he will be ready to go for the start of the pre-season,” said Richmond’s Elite Performance Manager, Peter Burge.

“He will wear a moon boot for the next few weeks, before beginning his rehab.”

Good to hear no break/fracture.
Rest up young man, you've got a massive pre season coming up and a bigger 2014!

Given how tall the bloke is, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he could regenerate a new ankle and foot.

Also, McBean in a moon boot...there's a joke somewhere in there...

Back next week - will play from the square in cast. Instead of getting cast signed will just tick off the goals: IIII IIII IIII IIII II:thumbsu:

And kick 22...?
Imagine him out of plaster...:p

Haha this really sucks, lose to the scum Blues, Jack gets a tweak, perfect chance to blood McBean, aaaaaand he's gone.
Could GWS beat us?

Anyway, good to hear no bone damage, he'll be fine. I badly sprained my ankle a few years back and didn't do any rehab, was too lazy. A few weeks later I was running around again no worries. 26 now and no issues whatsoever, he'll be fine.
Really looking forward to him playing round 1 next year.

Without having read all the relevant articles, seeing he's out for 4-6 weeks with a non-broken ankle, I am assuming he has a grade 2 ligament tear in multiple ligaments in his ankle. If I am correct, he would be on crutches/ moonboot for 1-2 weeks, and then work back for the remaining 2. I would suggest he will be available for the Grand Final :p

Just in time for him to kick 12 and win the norm smith :D

ligament damage actually worries me much more than a broken bone. bones heal much better than ligaments. a broken bone healed properly takes 6 or so weeks while to heal a damaged ligament properly can take years (and its so hard to tell how bad it really is). fingers crossed its not one of those cases.

A grade 2 tear is not as bad as a grade 3 tear (which I know is surprising to everyone), and usually is no further damage. It is a fairly common basketball injury (landing on the outside of the foot and rolling inwards). A tear of the ligaments usually means a full recovery - the only danger is if he does it multiple times (I'm talking 4 or 5) - which can mean surgery and a 6 month rehab stint. That is very very uncommon.

Broken ankles can be extremely bad - not because of the obvious, but the amount of pressure you place on the opposite foot can be detrimental, and loading on a rehab foot likewise. Easiest explainations of this is Astbury and Grimes who whilst did not have ankle break, did have severe hamstring and knee injuries which increased load over the rehab period on the non-injured leg, and then overloaded on the injured leg once they returned from injury. That resulted in stress fractures/ hot spots developing in their feet.

The thing that worries me most about McBean (and when I say most I mean I have a fear factor on a 0 - 100 scale with 100 being shit scared/ will never play again/ Kelvin Moore) of about 5 is his running style. His running style is splay-footed (feet run on a slight angle) which I don't believe is to adverse.
