Disagree. No unlucky omissions.

Losing to West Coast at home during the finals showed that players 18-22 on our list were not finals standard. Look at the stats and the passengers:

http://www.afl.com.au/match-centre/2017/24/port-v-wce

18 Jake Neade 8 11 19 3 0 1 0 1 0 0 60
19 Jasper Pittard 9 2 11 4 0 0 0 2 0 0 51
20 Todd Marshall 5 5 10 3 0 2 1 4 0 0 49
21 Jarman Impey 9 1 10 2 0 0 0 3 0 1 48
22 Tom Clurey 5 3 8 3 0 0 1 1 0 0 31

The players who have been brought in (plus suspended blockhead Jonas + Hombsch from injury) would replace these:

Rockliff, Motlop, Watts
Marshall being so young can be excused so too Clurey. He’s not meant to rack up possessions he’s there to stop an attack. The other two.. pfffft

Carn Chad plays for frees at every opportunity he gets.

Yeah but he’s shit at it.

Neade is probably our best at drawing frees but I’m not sure if that’s through ducking or just through being really short.

Lindsay is a champion bloke. I'm so sad to see him go, but happy he got given a lifeline. Was he frustrating to support? Yes, at times. But boy did he play for the jumper. Robbed of an all-australian selection, murdered by the media and opposition fans, but still he fronted up and did what he had to do. The thing I'm happiest about is now hearing supporters of another club stick up for LT and get behind him. Look after our little champ. All the best for 2018. If we don't win it (lol... "if"), then I hope Lindsay is wearing a premiership medal at the end of the season.

If he performs well I can see him becoming a fan favourite.

A majority of the naysayers will be jerking it when he kicks 5 on luke brown.

Given Carey like freedom he could Jenkins his way to a few minor bags but the lack of taking opportunity and poor one-on-one ability may limit his influence.

Hinkley has a lot of work ahead of him with this guy.

I am with you. I am not convinced Thomas will have an impact in the afl 2018. Sure the much publicised great bloke around club stuff. But i prefer Gray/Wingard rotating small fwd with a in form S Gray. The much maligned S Gray is a very good pressure forward imo

He is a rookie and I'm sure he's behind Rockcliff, Wingard, Robbie Gray, Sam Gray, and a few others before he will get a gig.

I wouldn't be 'sure' he's behind Sam Gray. Sam is more of a natural accumulator but I'd back Thomas to kick more goals and apply more pressure than Sam over a full season.

He's a clever cookie ol Thomas. He'll be best buddies with your captain and most efficient inside 50 before you know it.

He used to be a bit of a first quarter/etihad specialist due to his fitness and need to be 'on'.

The head down, hands on hips is bearable, it's the ordering the talls out of his 'space', flying for marks he's taken 3/200 in his career and faking injury/rib whacking when he's playing crap that are the worry.

His pressure is quite good at times but was always outweighed by the opposition and umpires revelling in running rings around him for whining/cheap shots/diving/ducking.

Fresh start and team mates looking for his joe the goose and he'll go ok. For a stand up guy, he's a bit of a hard-headed squib with low football integrity.

Just did as he pleased at North and was more of a mid size forward than a crumber.

He has the boot, he just needs to learn how to football within a structure and without auditioning for the oscars every 5 minutes. Hopefully he is more open to constructive criticism/teaching and flourishes under a better coaching staff.

Unless Sam Gray falls off a cliff he's not making way for anyone.
Sammy is under rated imo. In my best 22. He is hard at contest, courageous, finds reasonable footy for small fwd, can play midfield and when playing in a team with confidence....will effect the scoreboard. Unless out of form, step backwards replacing with Thomas. Neade on other hand...

lol - this was pretty much exactly my opinion of him when he played for you

now he's ours I'm going with the views of the other North supporters who have visited to say he's a misunderstood footy genius and best bloke ever

Except he is, a top 10 finish and about 30 votes from a top 3 finish in the 2017 B&F will give him plenty of leeway.

Matthew Broadbent, Jackson Trengove and Aaron Young all finished top 10 in the B&F last year. All three played SANFL in 2017. We’ve let two of them go for the combined compensation of one 2018 fourth rounder, and the other is hanging onto a best 22 spot by a thread (I for one would argue that he’s already lost it). A year is a long time in football.

Considering that over the offseason we’ve recruited Rockliff, Motlop, Watts and Thomas who are all capable forwards, spots in our forward line are going to be a lot harder to come by in 2018.

Not sure we need more goals, with Wingard, Rockclick, Dixon, Watts, R Gray, the midfield, we need more accountable role players.

I’d hazard they’d play completely different roles. Of course, which skillset we really need on a game to game basis is a fair question.

Sam Gray has said that his role has been to essentially run down back then push really hard forward when we get the ball. I don’t know much about Thomas’ fitness, but I think he offers a completely different skill set.

Either way pretty much anyone could be pushed out of the side, or push their way back in, and no doubt due to his height Sammy will be up against it. I reckon got a lot better through the course of the season though, and I’m hoping he keeps that improvement going.

I would love to see Thomas succeed as well! It’s so hard when you want to see so many players do well, but know they are all competing for a handful of spots...

Haha. Why not. Towards the end of his career he showed signs of attempted selflessness and awareness of team structures.

The lowering the center of gravity frees used to help him get into games but without those goals, the mini tantrums/50's/stupid frees/statless games stood out more.

He's capable of making stuff happen out of nothing and could add some icing to a decent team. The midfield helicopter bombing at North and no fear of getting into leading space/talls contests kept his spluttering career alive a couple of years more than it should have at North.

He needed a fresh start after Harvey and Wells went as he only had Ziebell stupid enough to seek him out.

A self appointed barometer of the c grade variety that needs a blue or a goal to remain viable. An entertainer that loves a celebration. An A- grade Left foot that has 200 games experience of standing in the hot spot and mastering the art of joe the goose and getting selected.

Dumb and selfish footballers waving their arms about constantly are not my thing. The North board is full of deluded clowns that love a good victim yarn and winning a battle over a war. Complete muppets, but it's fair to say LT was screwed over by a weak coaching staff that never had an honest discussion with him and either through stupidity or fear of his mental fragility, never gifted him the VFL games he warranted throughout his career.

If he can regain the form of a few years ago he'll help with finishing top 4. Can pressure act, kick from 55, create a perception of pressure when on the mark, has a hard head and shows signs of courage, seems liked by team mates and coaches as well as a fair few bigfooty types, can take a chest mark and when 'on' can do some damage in a short period.

The auto select issue and lack of honest coaching assessment probably hurt his fitness which led to multiple other issues.

These booming left footers can offer something. Will be interesting to see if your coaching staff can make it happen.

I think he's only here as a break glass option. We moved on a lot of stagnant depth this year and needed to get a bit of experience back in so we're not too exposed if a lot of injuries hit. He'll mostly play sanfl
