Leigh Matthews wouldn't tell you.

For the record, that's my guess of what the changes will be.

They won't drop Hadley coz he can play in the middle, down back and up forward and his leg speed and fresh legs will help against Collingwood's midfield. Notting is very limited to where he can play.

I agree with you that that is the change that should be made and I wouldnt' be surprised if that is the change, but I won't believe it till it's said on the news or on the AFL or Lions website.

Ashcroft in for Grand Final

Veteran Brisbane Lions defender Marcus Ashcroft’s hopes of earning a third AFL premiership medallion have been rekindled after he was selected in the Lions’ team for Saturday’s Grand Final against Collingwood at the MCG.

Ashcroft missed Brisbane’s preliminary final victory over the Sydney Swans last Saturday night due to a minor knee injury suffered in the Lions’ semi-final win over Adelaide at the Gabba a week before.

Tim Notting goes out of the team.

Brisbane’s emergencies for the Grand Final are Aaron Shattock, Chris Scott and Notting.

Well it was like that on our bench last year with all the injuries we had and we still won....and remember..Akka only need to get one kick...remember that kick? Hmmmm..I remember it..yeah thats the one..the one that WON the premiership for us...

SB it seems that Lethal has finally recognised your talent and is taking your suggestions on board.

Now tell him that we need Shatts next year and to promote Wright and I'll be happy. I'm growing strangely fond of 'Cella Bella so he can stay another year.

While I would share SB's enthusiasm over Hadley's 4th AFL game being a Grand Final, I'm still cautious and am going to wait until about 2 on Saturday before I count the chickens. If C. Scott and Shattock are on the emergencies list, they must be very near fully fit, and are thus not in the team because of lack of match hardness. I feel for Shatts - he's done so much this year, just to fall over at the last hurdle.

Hahahaha. I swear he reads Bigfooty. I was going on about Weller needing to be promoted for Corrie for like 6 weeks, it finally happened, then I was listing Hadley in my team for the whole year. It finally happened.

off topic. sorry.

but what is the salary cap for victorian clubs, and what is the salary for interstate clubs, such as brissy, sydney, adelaide, PA, freo and eagles. I need to know. thanks.

No, he hasn't played a full game for over 6 weeks.

This was an article from the Lions site yesterday. It tells you everything.

Uncertainty shrouds Lappin

The great Nigel Lappin fitness mystery continued on Wednesday afternoon, when the Brisbane Lions midfielder appeared at training at the Gabba, but failed to participate in the session.

Lappin spent the entire 75-minute session standing around and conducting the occasional handball drill with club fitness staff.

He did not appear to be in any obvious discomfort from his rib injury and happily signed autographs for supporters at the end of the light run for his teammates.

The Lions’ elder statesmen, Alastair Lynch and Martin Pike, were also bystanders during the session watched on by a healthy crowd of about 1500, as was skipper Michael Voss, who was resting his troublesome knee.

All three are certain starters for Saturday’s Grand Final against Collingwood at the MCG.

Lappin will be named in the team at selection on Thursday night, but a final decision on his availability is not likely to be made until Saturday morning.

Marcus Ashcroft, Chris Scott and Aaron Shattock all completed the session, eager to force their way back into the team.

Only Ashcroft is rated as a strong chance to be selected, after a one-week lay-off with a knee injury.

The general feeling around the Lions camp is that Scott (groin) and Shattock (knee) have missed too much football over the past month to force their way into the side ahead of a teammate with superior match hardness.

“We’ve played some very good football the last couple of weeks, which is also going to count against them,” Voss, the Lions captain, said this week.

“Upsetting that balance and making two or three changes is probably not something you’d necessarily want at this stage of the year.

“We go in pretty settled, or have been the last couple of weeks, so it would be nice to go in still maintaining that.”

Half-forward Tim Notting and youngster Richard Hadley are the two players who played in last week’s preliminary final victory over Sydney under the most pressure to retain their positions in the 22, should Ashcroft return and Lappin prove his fitness.

But while Hadley, with only three games of experience, seems the logical player to be omitted, there is a school of thought that suggests his speed and fresh legs could be of value against the strong running Magpies.

I doubt Chris Scott will play unless Lappin doesn't pull up. They would be crazy dropping an extra 2 fit players for players who havn't played for like a month and one who has had a groin injury all year who may not be able to make it past a quarter. Only injury will see them both in the side on Saturday IMO.

Thanks SB! Makes sense now. If Lappin can't make it, I hope they put Shatts in. He deserves it.

Not a problem.

I'm leaning towards them bringing in C Scott if Lappin doens't make it. However C Scott said earlier in the week that he doesn't see himself fit to play this week.

But Shattock will get the nod over Notting anyday.

The change last week was In: Shattock, Out: Ashcroft. Notting was available, but never played. He only came in coz Shattock declared himself not 100%. To me, that says that Notting definately won't be playing unless another player is injured at training tomorrow.

I reckon he'll only be used if we have a couple of players out. His hard-at-it approach will be missed this week, that's for sure, but I'd have to think he would only have one decent half of football in him at this stage. I could be wrong though . . .

Notting would probably be the most likely to come in, if Lappin doesn't get up, as he's probably just got an edge on pace over Shattock, and has played more recently. With that said though, while Notting might be a reasonable swap for the direct position, I reckon Shattock 'deserves' selection ahead of Notting, based on form, endeavour, toughness and versatility (his over-all skills have improved out of sight over the last two years). Notting, IMO, is often found out for being predictable, inconsistent, lazy and soft on occasions.

At leat 2 of your 4 bench players will be there for only half a game. Leon davis is selected for half a game. I'd swap him for Scott for half a game each.
