Carlton went from being pathetic for 10 years (and didn't even make the top 8 in 2013) to winning two finals. If Carlton can overcome not being able to make finals, any team can overcome their struggles.
This thread aint about Carlton champ. There is literally 50 you can bump and bag us in currently.

4 or 400 means squat.

You cannot win on the ground that matters most.

1 win in the last nearly 20 visits confirms this.
It's not just Brisbane who have issues with winning on the road.
Port haven't beaten a top 4 side away from SA since 2015.
Crows haven't beaten a top 4 side away from SA since 2012.

To win flags you need to be able to beat the best teams anywhere, anytime and teams from other states haven't been able to do so hence the lack of recent silverware.
I remember saying in the Carlton v Brisbane rebuild thread that Carlton will win a flag before Brisbane and I stand by that.

Yeah well carlton can win a flag without winning a game interstate ever.

I don't think Collingwood could beat us at the Gabba based on form this year, and it didn't hinder them.

Maybe they have peaked but their list demographic certainly doesn't suggest so. Of their guns only Neale will be 30 next year and he'll still be pretty good.

I suspect they will be a serious threat for a while yet. Whether they go all the way and win one is anyones guess. You need alot to go right.

Getting both Ashcroft brothers as freebies won't hurt as far as keeping them in the window either.

I honestly don't think they deserved to beat us in 2022.
But they were on the wrong end of some decisions today now they have to live with it.

Pies had more talent, Lions did a lot better than I expected today but just werent quiet good enough & gave some silly FK's away some weren't there some were though.

Won't get near it again for many years.

Unbelievably lucky to have got his far. Even more remarkable they managed to hang in there for so long. Injuries to McStay, Adams and Murphy in the first quarter helped them out in the end.

Hipwood and Rayner, two vanilla players right there who simply won't get it done in these type of matches.

I said before the game, not sure what thread it was but Daniher, Hipwood & Rayner all need to play good for the Lions to win.
only Daniher did.

Crucial miss right in front by Daniher final quarter. Basically sums up his career in a nutshell. So close to being an elite forward and yet, so far away.
Yep poor miss, hurts the team but so many mistakes the lions made at crucial times, Dunkley jogging 15 meters behind from De Goey kicking a goal in a GF was weak as piss imo. can't let a player like De Goey have that much room.

The Berry 50m penalty was poor and it will haunt him for a long time. Pies players didn't make those sort of mistakes & that's why they won.

Can you expand on this 'lucky' business please.

Why isn’t it relevant? If you argue Brisbanes MCG form in 2019 is relevant then someone else can point out obviously other teams forms in 2019 is relevant? Brisbane won a final in 2022 at the MCG & lost by 4 points to the all year best team in 2023 there - it’s clearly not as big a deal.

They didn’t get blown away, most losing grand finallists that are hanging on by nails and are about to fall away or got lucky generally get destroyed.

Brisbane and Collingwood is every chance to be next years grand final, injury notwithstanding. I’m sure if either side loses half a dozen to Long term injuries it’ll be different but Brisbanes core is still building, only a couple are into the declining stage, and they’ve still got Will Ashcroft to come back late next year.

Brisbane didn't deserve to win the Grand Final.
had too many down players including some of their better players, Collingwood had more contributers & their best players had good games.

Still only 4 points shows the Pies weren't a dominate team this year, they just were just the best.

I think this is a fair assessment. It would've felt like pinching one if we'd won it on the back of that performance yesterday. We needed to perform better on the day to beat Collingwood at the G.

Not to mention Brisbane are utterly dominant at home i dont see that dropping off in 2024 but its a long long way back just to get to the final day again.

That sounds unbelievable. Are they facts?

Yes they are as I did the research myself, and by top 4 - I mean top 4 after home and away.

To put this into perspective,

Brisbane last beat a top 4 side away from QLD in 2023 when they beat Collingwood at Docklands.
Gold Coast last beat a top 4 side away from QLD in 2022 when they beat Sydney at SCG.

Sydney last beat a top 4 side away from NSW in 2022 when they beat Melbourne at MCG.
GWS last beat a top 4 side away from NSW in 2023 when they beat Port at Adelaide Oval.

West Coast last beat a top 4 side away from WA in 2022 when they beat Collingwood at Docklands.
Fremantle last beat a top 4 side away from WA in 2023 when they beat Melbourne at MCG.

Brisbane will always be there abouts with their talent and home ground advantage. But they need to do better away especially at the MCG during their premiership window. They will probably start slow next season then build up in the second halve again.

Well the majority of away games they do get are played at Marvel for some reason.

Good to see chissy is still on the simple Jack mouth drooling mcg narrative. He must chug a lot of Jordan Lewis commentary. Wonder if he wears fake glasses to make himself feel smart as well.

Because the AFL prioritises a handful of large VIC clubs playing each other twice a year, that leaves other clubs with what is left over - more games at Docklands, more games against smaller VIC clubs and more games in other states.
