Not as funny as the serious suggestion that the perpetrator needs 'education'!

Dear Today Tonight Fan

You know he didn't actually tip the guy out of his chair right?

Hey mate ... I'm probably totally wrong with the facts as I haven't seen or read the latest report. My point was not so much about what actually happened so much as that when it seemed a wheelchair guy had been upended, people suggested the player might need some "education". I just can't fathom the idea that footballers need "education" not to abuse the disabled or set dwarfs on fire or whatever else they decide might be a good idea.

I wasn't having a go at the Brisbane player/s involved so much as the suggestion that "education" may be required.

I liked the shot of Magill using his computer and its just a blank desktop screen.

Disappointing story - would have liked a distance shot of the Gabba with the sky turning grey and thunder in the background.

What about Daniel Rich with devil horns?

Education does't necessarily mean sitting him down in a classroom. There are other forms of education as well.

Volunteer work would be great to educate Rich if he had done what was in the original story.

They don't need to be educated its just a way to address the problem with public perception in mind.

I get your point. It is like these boys, and I use the term boys with intent, that are home sick for their mum. How do you educate them that if they want to go and see mummy they can get on a aeroplane and be there within a couple of hours?

Well like a couple of us said earlier lets wait and hear the REAL story before we get the noose out.
I actualy have had a first hand expeience with the media's 1st rule , and that is don't let the facts get in the way of a good story.. I dont believe well lets say 40% of every story I read in the papers or hear in the news, when you see 1st hand how they juice an ordinory story into a headline or sensationalise it just a f.....g little bit , you know what I'm talking about.
Lesson today dont believe everything you hear, think, then adjudicate , thats what Professor Sum de Milller always said, f.....g Genious.

It was after the egg in the bottle one... you missed it?
I loved the Cadbury commercial. I was addicted to the Cadbury commercial. I watched nothing else. Sob!

Let me put it this way - A footballers life is largely self centred. The majority of a footballers' time is spent improving himself physically. As mentioned above, things like volunteering, helping out the community and fronting respected team mates to explain your actions would, I would think, force a young footballer to think about things in a bit of a more well rounded way. Hopefully one would grow a little, perhaps become a little more....educated?

Educate? This is a trend in modern society that, frankly, I find hilarious.

Educate him?

"Daniel, we need to put you in a class room and explain a few things about what is and what is not appropriate in relation to the way we treat the differently-abled.

"It is clear you tipped the poor man out of his chair because you had never been educated not to. You are a victim here, just as much as our handicapped, er, differently-abled friend.

"The duty of care to you was never met. That duty to tell you things your parents and grandparents instinctively knew but that, somehow, your generation simply does not know without 'education'.

"So let's begin. First Daniel, you need to know that people in wheelchairs are in wheelchairs because they cannot walk. Can you imagine what it would be like to not be able to walk? That's right. It would be very sad. And then, Daniel, to be tipped out of the chair onto your ass - how do you think that would feel? No. No. You CAN'T smash the guys who tipped you out of the chair Daniel because, remember, you're in the chair because you can't walk. That's right. You can't walk at all. No you can't hop Daniel. No, not even a bit.

"Look Dan, let's try to focus here. Our wheel-chair bound friend is already sad because he has no use of his legs and then you come along and tip him on his ass. How do you suppose that might make him feel?

"Good Daniel, good. More sad. Excellent.

"You really are doing very well here. Why don't we call it a day and reconvene next week when we'll talk about how it might feel to lose your spot in a taxi rank."

He needs education? Seriously? God help us!

Also, there were just as many d___ heads in our grandparents generation as there are now. Its just back then there were no professional sports and instant worldwide communication blaring every misdeed into the homes of every person in the country

I would maintain that there were fewer dickheads back then... even only as far back as the early eighties. The world has gone to $hit... and it's only recently. Just my view. I used to do security in the nights in Melb CBD... it was a bit dodgy but manageable... now it's just plain dangerous. Walk through the wrong streets at 4am as a foreigner you will be assaulted either verbally or physically. But anyway, it's not really relevant to this. I think it's nice that they were including the guy in the fun. Most people look through people with disabilities as if they are not there...guilt, shame, pride, embarrassment... don't know why.

What annoys me is that of all the other clubs - it's the supporters of clubs whose players have caused a million times more controversy who think they have the most right to put in their 2 cents worth.. Especially Collingwood supporters who stuck their head in the sand regarding the actions of players like Alan Didak and Heath Shaw from a couple of years back.

Actually I think society as a whole and people as individuals ate getting better all the time, that we are on a slow but real upward trend of tolerance and enlightenment.

That we are more accepting and understanding and less likely to attack or humiliate 'spazs, or ****s, or wogs' and the fact that this is news is an indication of how far we have come.

I refuse to agree that the 'world is going to help in a handbasket' or that 'kids these days...', I have for 15 years worked in jobs where everyday I see humans do some pretty shitty things to one another, and I am still very confident that society is moving in the right direction.

But that is the fundamental difference between a progressive and a conservative outlook and probably not a matter for this thread.

Yep. Three of those are nations are going through the teething pains of democracy. That hurts and sometimes takes decades to settle Think of the terror and death that followed the French revolution, think of the state crackdown after the english civil war.

Look at the riots in Greece (the birthplace of democracy), Spain, England. once they found out that things weren't as rosy as they seemed.

Seriously. If you think society is heading in the right direction, you've obviously got your head in the sand.

Try sending your child to a school where other kids like exposing themselves after all the pr0n they've seen on their parents computers.

As for persecuting 'spazs, ****s and wogs'. There will always be minorities that people like to persecute (often on the back of political or media agenda).
